OK, now this is a really interesting hypothesis: did the preponderance of serial killers (Ted Bundy, BTK Killer, Green River Killer, I-5 Killer, the Night Stalker etc) in the 1970s & 1980s around the American Pacific Northwest have links to the high levels of environmental pollution of that time? Lead, cadmium, & arsenic were just some of the pollutants belching out of industrial smelters & Tacoma, (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf Washington seems to have been 'ground zero' for serial killers. So far, so good right?

Unfortunately the way this book is written makes it a very difficult read. The vital information needed is buried underneath an avalanche of superfluous information - just what is the fascination with bridges? What do road traffic accidents on said bridges have to do with serial killers? Interesting stats maybe, but not relevant here.

OutsmartYourShelf I stuck it out because, as I said, it's a really interesting hypothesis, & I really wish the author had written the book focusing on that aspect. It took me 2 weeks to read this & it really shouldn't have. 3⭐

I didn‘t love this one. I think it reads as a mystery/thriller with a dark romance undertone, which…m/t has NEVER been one of my preferred genres. The pacing was off, and the characters are…fine. I think I‘ll read the next one, but if that one doesn‘t hit….

5 stars for this one! It was so much fun!! I don‘t believe I‘ve read Downing before but will definitely read more now. The pacing was excellent. So many twists and surprises. I would love to see this adapted! It would be hilarious! If you‘re in a reading slump, this one will definitely get you out of it!

This is highly unpleasant reading. I‘m trying to finish off a reading challenge (a-z) and select short books so I can make my goal by end of year. JenP @BarbaraBB also I‘ll add that one of my favorite things about Oates is her ability to thoroughly inhabit her characters. She‘s a great writer and wholly convincing. Unfortunately this character is horrible - based off of Dahmer 3w

intothehallofbooks I read this too, a while back, after asking Litsy to share some recommendations for shocking stories. I remember being horrified as I read, and also really shocked by how believably the author portrayed the killer. 3w
