For the past couple of years I‘ve read a classic during the span of twelve months. In thinking about 2024‘s yearlong project, I‘m considering ramping up my #chronologicalkingread and trying to finish one book every month. If I can do it, I‘ll head into 2025 about to complete The Dark Tower!
Nothing like spur-of-the-moment reading goals on the last day of the year…
When I originally read Wizard and Glass I was a bit disappointed. King slows down the action to give us a bonafide love story. It‘s not what I was wanting nor expecting.
On my second round I was struck by how like a Western it actually is; like a mix between the gritty, violent character studies of the 1970s and the technicolor romanticism of the ‘50s (with a little fantasy thrown in just for the hell of it) and I appreciate it so much more.
Books finished in April include Insomnia, Rose Madder, The Green Mile, Desperation, The Regulators, The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass, Bag of Bones, Storm of the Century, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and Hearts in Atlantis. While a lot of incredible books vied for the top spot, my April pick for #readingbracket2023 is The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass. I'm starting to see a real pattern here!
Again, what is there to say about a series - and in this case, a book - that one loves as much as I love The Dark Tower and Wizard and Glass? This is a hauntingly beautiful tale of love, tragedy, perseverance, and loss, and it hangs perfectly in the middle of the saga recounting Roland's quest for The Dark Tower. This is a read I will always savor and enjoy, bittersweet though it may be. Bird and bear and hare and fish and 5/5.
I think this is my second favorite book in the series. It‘s a long one but it‘s worth the time. We get a bit of Roland‘s backstory and how he became a gunslinger and the man he is now. SPOILER ALERT: It‘s a very tragic story and it made me cry. (But then, I‘ve always been an emotional being.) #SeriesLove2023 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView
“Roland the Gunslinger, Eddie, Susannah and Jake find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts his tragic story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson.”
Having recently reread this it was the first book I thought of for today's prompt.

Having read this previously many years ago, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I remembered. Many readers find this one too slow, but for me , the pace is perfect because a lot of backstory occurs and this time around I notice more foreshadowing than I did in my first read.
I'm really loving my journey back to the tower. 💚
This backstory was necessary and all part of the tower journey. I think it‘s safe to say that King unquestionably captured the essence of passionate young love.
Vivid and descriptive, I found myself transported from my couch right into the pages of Mid-World.
As for the length of this book, I felt there were no wasted pages. Each page added something valuable and necessary to understanding the quest of the tower.
1, tagged - 845 pages 😅
2. Yes, I‘m probably going to finish a book, even if I don‘t like it. So it‘s scary to make that commitment when a book is very long.
Luckily I was rewarded when I read this book because of the satisfactory conclusion of a long book in a long series.

Book 4 in the wonderful Dark Tower Series by Stephen King
#Glass #BeginsWith
4⭐ I just finished this chunkster of a book for the second time, and man, what a ride. It has my favorite moment in the whole series. Ironically, it is also one of the slowest books in the series for me. Not bad, just slow. But in this slower-paced tale, there are many important details about Roland that can help us better understand him. And what revelations were made in this second reading. I can't wait to continue on to the next one!
“Roland the Gunslinger, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono‘s final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, that [was] ravaged by the super flu. Roland recounts his tragic story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson, the harrier [and] ignited Mid-World‘s final war.”
The majority of this book is the back story of Roland Deschain, his life in Gilead, his old Ka-tet with Cuthbert and Alain, their time in Mejis. But the story's core surrounds Roland's first love, Susan Deldago.
There's just always going to be one book in a series that's not as good as the rest, this one is mine because I don't think it adds anything to the overall story but it offers a lot of history into Roland‘s character.
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
I finished my rainbow fingerless gloves while listening to Wizard and Glass for bookclub. And just in time too! It has gotten frigid here!

Ka-tet. Feeling a little emotional.

🎧 Here we get Roland‘s origin story.
After surviving Blaine‘s riddle test of death the ka-tet is left in an alternate Topeka KS.
It‘s slow at times but interesting and feels much more like a western than the last two books because there‘s much less of the contemporary talk that you get from Eddie, Susannah & Jake.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3 👇🏻
So … apparently school is back in session because my library waitlist is moving to loan status like the books are on FIRE! LOL my September TBR was the 8 books of The Dark Tower at my leisure but the library has other plans 🤓
Finished this big ‘ole audio book on my drive to visit my parents this weekend. I like each book in the series a bit better but it‘s not my favorite series. I‘m going to keep going with it but I‘m just reading a book or two a year.
Hit the trails behind the house before the rain. It‘s hot and humid out there. Lots of kindness rocks left to find on the trail, a nice surprise! Book IV of the Dark Towers series.
I like to call this “I don‘t know what to read next and I can‘t sleep (Sunday morning regrets)”
A deeply romantic and tragic book in every sense of the terms. Tender, action-packed, and unforgettable. Also one of the best books King has ever written. #stephenking
Some Stephen King (and Bean, my cat) on this Memorial Day weekend. #memorialday #cat #stephenking
Reading The Dark Tower for the first time since high school. So interesting the things I‘m picking up on now. God, I love this series. #stephenking

This series is getting better and better. The more of Stephen Kings books I read, the more I find their traces and hints in the Dark Tower books. It's complex, but still easy to read. Deep, moving, unforgettable, even after months of not reading these books, I had no troubles at all finding myself with Roland and the others again.
And of course I fell in love with Oy once again 😻

It‘s been awhile since I‘ve read these books, but the #losersclub is reading this one starting today so I‘m jumping in. I‘ll read the others again when I get a chance! This is a bit of a #chunksterchallenge book, but 30 pages a day will have me done in time! #stephenking #losersclub2021

Israeli Stuffed Dates made for #FoodandLit are sooooooo amazing 🤩😍 Perfection covered in chocolate ❤️
#Israel @Butterfinger @Texreader
The actual flashback took me a while to settle into and in the end I did enjoy it but it took a while to get going for me. I must admit to really enjoying the supernatural parts of flashback and the magical elements of the characters.
All in all a decent read. The world building in this series is truly amazing.
Tried my next product from #Israel for breakfast: Date Syrup ❤️
I need more of this! 🤩

Here's my list for the April round of #BookSpinBingo

1️⃣ I'd like to live in a bookstore, above it and be the owner.
2️⃣ Read only stand-alones.
3️⃣ Live in a fantasy book (Mejis, Wizard and Glass by Stephen King)
4️⃣ Signed Edition
5️⃣ Cliffhanger, but definitely better have another book.
6️⃣ Villain in favourite book (R.F.) 👹
Play long if you've got the time! 🙋♂️

The story moves forward and the pain goes on. Blain the pain, but how long will the story go...until the train runs out of tracks and away our ka-tet go? Just finished The Wastelands and I‘ve cracked open Wizard and Glass. #stephenking #darktower #epicnovels #horrorbooks
