I remember my sister reading this one when I was little- about twenty years ago- and telling me about what was happening. I was terrified. I think it‘s time I finally read it myself…
Started out strong with plenty of character-building and the panic Billy and his wife feel over his very rapid and unnerving weight loss. Then it got v-e-r-y boring for the middle part, before it picked back up near the end. I mean, I really struggled with the middle part, but the end was worth it.
Not one of my King favorites, but it definitely felt like Stephen King. Up next #readingStephenKing: Cycle of the Werewolf. Going into it 100% blind!
I just got home from work and have so much I need to be doing around the house. But I‘m going to sit here and read for a few minutes instead.

It's difficult for me to parse my feelings on this one. Thoroughly unpleasant characters abound, coupled with copious amounts of racism and stereotypical depictions of the Romani people. At its core, the story is interesting enough, especially with the debt it owes to 1956's The Incredible Shrinking Man, for which King has expressed his love. Despite that seed of potential interest, I left this read with feelings of lingering distaste. 2/5
i gotta be real, i did not like this at all. just filled with racist stereotypes and honestly boring. plus stephen king giving himself a little shoutout under his pen name???? shut up
Here's one I haven't watched in a while. Apparently AMC is having a Stephen King marathon today. Yes please! 😁

Yes, I‘m a cover snob (usually). So is younger son. I ordered Thinner from Book Outlet but the cover (left) was not 1) what was shown on their website and 2) not in good shape (should have been sold as a scratch and dent at a lower price). I expressed my disappointment, they refunded me partially, and I used that refund towards a reasonably priced first edition (5th printing) from eBay 🙂. We‘ll keep the PB as a reading copy for now.
A fantastic story, King does it again with his excellent use of dread. Right from the beginning, the reader understands what's going to happen but how will it end?

This book was an excellent read that I started early on a rainy day and couldn't put it down until I finished it. Billy starts losing weight and doesn't know why. As the story unfolds we find out Billy has been cursed, but he isn't the only one. 💀
Might be my final book of the year.
Of course it begins with Gypsies.
Wasn't sure about it when I started but I enjoyed it.
Intense
Overweight Billy Halleck seriously enjoys living his life of upper-class excess. He‘s got it all—an expensive home in Connecticut, a loving family…but when he strikes and kills a jaywalking old woman crossing the street, Halleck gets off with a slap on the wrist by using his connections. The victim‘s father puts a curse on Billy-he gets so thin so fast, he might disappear... #dragmetohell #horrorseason @Klou
I'm back! ?♂️
Billy, a overweight lawyer who one night while driving home runs over an gypsy woman, he's brought to trial but is acquitted because he's friends with the judge. While leaving the courthouse, an old gypsy man brushes his hand on Billy's cheek and whispers "thinner." From that moment onwards Billy starts to rapidly lose weight until his clothes are falling off him, I'll leave it there - that's all I'm going to say. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Finally read this after having seen the movie several times. The book is so much better than the movie. I highly recommend this one! #MountTBR
Last day of Christmas break and I can't put this book down!
#thriller #stephenking #richardbachman #thinner
Christmas reading. Probably not the best choice of book, ahead of a week of eating...
What can I say? It's a King novel. There a few parts in there that I felt didn't need to be there, but I think we can all agree that King usually does that; it doesn't stop us from getting the next one, does it? Lol. This book is great. The ending, I felt, was phenomenal. I had a different thought going through my head, so I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. Definitely a 6 out of 5.
I'm officially in I'm-finishing-this-book-tonight-by-any-means mode.

I would like to announce that I am no longer going to accept "fat, big, heavy," etc. as accurate descriptions of who I am. I am now going to be known to be:
"Physically Substantial."
Thank you, Mr. King. This is why you're the best. Lol
Reading time with the hubby! I read Thinner many years ago when I was still a teenager and I told @KennethTolesJr that he needed to read it a while back. He‘s finally reading it!!! He‘s a King fan, so I‘m sure he‘ll enjoy it. 🤣

Years ago, after I read Thinner, I couldn't eat strawberry pie made by anyone but me. Too risky.
This one starts off with a pretty devastating spell.
(And I promise not all of my photo prompts this month will be Stephen King books 😜)

I watched the movie for this years ago and have been meaning to read the book ever since. Like many of Stephen King's stories, the book went more in-depth than the movie. This is one of the books he wrote under the pen name “Richard Bachman.“ At one point in the novel a character even said something along the lines of: “This sounds like a Stephen King book.“
I really enjoyed this book. Bachman + gypsy curse = an insane tale. I admit the ending was somewhat predictable. Also my guess is that Thinner really influenced the movie Drag Me To Hell. #losersclub
Third book for #SummersEndReadathon @Clwojick
Seventh (I think) for #BFCr3 #bookfitnesschallenge @wanderinglynn

So... Ladies and Gents, I have a question.
I've started three books, but because of school, I stopped all three. I want to focus on one at a time and finish them now that I'm done with school. Can you help with the order, please?
Thinner by Stephen King
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Fear the Sky by Stephen Moss (audiobook narrated by RC Bray)
The poll ends at 2:17pm Central time.
Thanks!!!
#Thinner #LosersClub @DGRachel I think I might have a really early edition of Thinner. It still claims Richard Bachman is a different person and has a fake pic.
I liked the book. I couldn't help it, but I would be interested to hear how Romani people feel about it.
Not a favorite. I'm bummed because I loved some of his other books he wrote as Bachman (Running Man and The Long Walk were both excellent). This was a little boring, the main character kind of bland and unlikable, and a lot of the actual action happened "offscreen" and was described later.
Oh well. They can't all be winners.
I‘m so sorry #LosersClub. I did the graphics on the 18th so I‘d be ready to go on the 19th and then totally forgot. 🤦🏻♀️ Anywho....our next book is a #bachmanbook: #Thinner. So get reading and check back in on or about August 18th for open discussion. I‘ll be #ghosthosting as usual. #Thinner #LosersClub #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion #RichardBachman #BachmanBooks
Last King related post for the day - apologies for spamming your feeds. Just a reminder that July‘s #losersclub read is #Thinner! Buy, borrow, or beg your copy and check back in next month when we begin reading this one. Discussion will be on or about August 18th. I‘ll be #ghosthosting this one, but everyone is welcome to join in!
“Just that one word, sent on the wafting, cloying sweetness of his breath. ‘Thinner.‘ [T]he old Gypsy reaches out and caresses his cheek with one twisted finger. His lips spread open like a wound, showing a few tombstone stumps poking out of his gums. His tongue squirms between them and then slides out to slick his grinning, bitter lips.”

This one features a gypsy curse.
I didn‘t like the ending. After all Billy goes through I wanted more for him. I loved the gangster character. He added a fun tone to the book. There is more to this story than I remembered. I enjoyed reading it very much.
Did anyone else notice the face in the apple? It took me awhile to see it 😀
“It just...it seems hard to say anything that isn't the wrong thing.“
Story of my life... You?
My #chronologicalkingread continues with an audio read of a Bachman book. I still like the story (I‘ve read it before), but the musical interludes between chapters are getting on my nerves!
Doing a read through of King‘s work is a task. He‘s not my favorite author. He has some great books. Annnnd he has some dogs. This is in between. There‘s some great storytelling and there‘s some very lazy plot holes. It‘s that book where you just think, “why would you do it that way” the whole way through. Not feeling more complete having read this.
Continuing my SK biblio read through with this classic. So far, I‘m really enjoying the writing. Fast, pulpy, clever SK. Image credit: Vince Locke
This was a Christmas gift to my dad, but he promptly handed it back to me to read (I give him books all year long that I have read and then for birthdays and holidays, I give him new books that he will read first and pass back to me to read!). But after some health issues earlier this month, he has rapidly lost a lot of weight so we have been joking about this book that neither of us have read! Seeing him later today, and looking forward to it!
Sorry! As much as I love reading works by Stephen King, this book did not do the trick for me. I read 90 pages and bailed. I found the story boring.
