I enjoyed this. I see what he was going for with the excerpts from news reports and hearings, but I don't think it was very effective, since it didn't really add much to the story and the subplot of trying to bury the story didn't really lead anywhere. I also didn't love the choppy editing to insert these asides. The story was solid, though, and the buildup was very tense. #losersclub @BarkingMadRead

3✨ Going in with a few spoilers I expected bullying, and telekinesis. I did not expect it to hit my feels as much as it did. Typically every girl gets her period around the age of 12. I know for me it was a difficult transition, but for Carrie it was so much worse! This plays on real feels of mine as a kid, and the worst bullies on the face of the planet. It has me thinking who was the real “monster”. #LosersClub

I haven‘t read a lot of Stephen King, but of the books I have read this one is my favorite. I think this is the third time I‘ve read it.

Gigi didn‘t appreciate being bothered.

You don't really need a synopsis for this book do you? OK, how about bullied teenager uses telekinetic powers to get revenge at the prom.

After reading several of King's other books & not liking them, I decided to finally read one of his books that most people seem to rave about (to see if the problem was the particular books I'd read before) & it was.....ok. It wasn't bad but it wasn't earth-shatteringly good either.

The first time I saw the film Carrie (1976 or 1977) was in my apartment and I let out a loud #Scream at the final scene 😱 totally unexpected ending but so effective…

Managed to take myself by train to Hoboken, NJ today without getting lost or kidnapped. Carrie was my companion. 13 year old me thought I was so badass sneaking this book from my Dad‘s shelf and reading it. I swear I managed to work my knowledge of telekinesis into every conversation for 6 months because I wanted people to know I read adult books 😂 #LosersClub @BarkingMadRead

I dont consider it really scary. It made me more sad than anything, with a side of good for her.

Some reading, since everyone but the littlest in the house has the flu. I hope the worst of it is over last night.

I got some bad news today, and I just needed to loose myself in something and apparently the audiobook version of “Carrie” is doing the trick…

I finished up my reread of Carrie. This novel always leaves me feeling sad. The tragedy and abuse that Carrie experiences breaks my heart. All she wanted was to fit in.

I like how the story is written with excerpts from books, interviews, and news to unravel what happened.

Although this isn't a favorite King for me, I still like it and appreciate it.

Carrie White does not have it easy. She is unpopular at school and subjected to her mother‘s religious fanaticism at home. She also has a secret: she can move things with her mind. When she feels like she‘s been given a chance to be normal, an unexpected and cruel prank turns her gift into a weapon of horror.

This was a reread. Always as good as the first time I read it.

50 years old. Wow. 😳

Managed to bag this beauty and it was the last copy in Waterstone's Liverpool ❤️
I cannot wait for the rest of the 50th anniversary ones to come out.

I love Stephen King- and my late 80‘s reading were full of King, Koontz and Saul. Margaret Atwood (also a favorite) wrote the intro to the 50th anniversary edition- and the Times shares it- It is filled with nuances and information that only make me love Stephen King even more.

I was 6 and didn‘t read then, think I was probably 11 before I nicked it off my brother‘s shelf.

It was interesting reading this one again. I think the story‘s structure is very messy — switching between different POVs and news clippings, book excerpts, and court transcripts — but the characters are some of King‘s best, and this ends up remaining one of his most emotional and angry books.

Stephen King walked around Bangors cemetery and often got his names for some of his characters from the tombstones he would walk by. This grave was where he got the name for his famous work, “Carrie.” I got a picture of it when we went up to Maine recently and it‘s perfect for todays #scarathlon prompt!
