Finders Keepers, Volume 2
Finders Keepers, Volume 2 | Stephen King
The second book in Stephen King's Bill Hodges trilogy (Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers, End of Watch), an AT&T Audience Original Series, now in its second season! "Stephen King's superb new stay-up-all-night thriller is a sly tale of literary obsession that recalls the themes of his classic 1987 novel Misery" (The Washington Post)--the #1 New York Times bestseller about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So announces deranged fan Morris Bellamy to iconic author John Rothstein, who once created the famous character Jimmy Gold and hasn't released anything since. Morris is livid, not just because his favorite writer has stopped publishing, but because Jimmy Gold ended up as a sellout. Morris kills his idol and empties his safe of cash, but the real haul is a collection of notebooks containing John Rothstein's unpublished work...including at least one more Jimmy Gold novel. Morris hides everything away--the money and the manuscripts no one but Gold ever saw--before being locked up for another horrific crime. But upon Morris's release thirty-five years later, he's about to discover that teenager Pete Saubers has already found the stolen treasure--and no one but former police detective Bill Hodges, along with his trusted associates Holly Gibney and Jerome Robinson, stands in the way of his vengeance... Not since Misery has Stephen King played with the notion of a reader and murderous obsession, filled with "nail biting suspense that's the hallmark of [his] best work" (Publishers Weekly).

I didn't enjoy this installment of the trilogy as much as I did book one. This was kind of up then down, and then up and down again for me. What I did like was the narrator and how the story was written around a readers obsession with an author and his work. I thought this was a great concept.

As a follow-up to Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers is not entirely what I was expecting. It takes a different tack with the way it presents its story, as well as whose eyes we predominantly see it through.Taken on its own merits, it's an absolutely fantastic read with a very engaging young protagonist, a tense conflict at its core, a disturbing antagonist, and just enough of Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney to keep me happy. 5/5

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the start, I thought fictional author John Rothstein must be based on JD Salinger. He is partly, but is actually a composite of a few famous authors. Very clever, Mr King. This second installment of the Bill Hodges Trilogy brilliantly weaves together Mr Mercedes with other events going on within the same setting. Rothstein‘s stolen money and Moleskines go missing a second time. They are very, very valuable.

I didn‘t think this one was as good as the first one, but I liked it. I liked that the characters intertwined from the first book and the story was interesting. It was a bit slow in parts, but overall I liked it.

"For readers, one of life's most electrifying discoveries is that they ARE readers - not just capable of doing it, but in love with it. Hopelessly. Head over heels. The first book that does that is never forgotten, and each page seems to bring a fresh revelation, one that burns and exalts: 'Yes! That's how it is! Yes! I saw that, too!' And, of course, 'That's what I think! That's what I FEEL!'

BookwormAHN I enjoyed it but I did get a little tired of the um graphic reminders of male prison life 🤦🏼‍♀️ 1y
5feet.of.fury I really hope that Holly convinced Jerome to knock off the Tyrone voice for the next book 🙄 honestly idk why King added that, it gives nothing to the story & I find it hard to believe a black teen would be doing it in the 2010s to entertain a bunch of old white people. Other than that I love the characters & it was good to see their developments here. 1y
5feet.of.fury The time lines converging so that everything happens at the perfect alignment (Pete trying to sell the books 4 years after finding them, which happens to be when Bellamy got paroled) is so improbable but I guess that‘s story telling. 1y
5feet.of.fury It made and interesting ending that the trio were so behind on the investigation & then it turned into such a frenzy. 1y
Karkar I enjoyed this reread. I kinda forgot how much I really hated Bellamy. 1y

I had forgotten that the trio of Holly-Bill-Jerome doesn‘t show up until late. Once I got over that I enjoyed my re-read of this one. I think King was messing with us when he made the villain an obsessive book worm.

Counting down until Holly is released!

🎧 Book 2 & I was looking forward to more Hodges, Holly & Jerome. King can write a character & I was enjoying this combination.

This book is so intriguing but I had to wait for half a book to get back to the detective trio.

The story‘s told by multiple characters. A criminal, a child, our trio. All coming at the same crime from different angles.

It starts with a murder mystery which goes unsolved until the end when our trio …

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4 👇🏻

Twainy … shows up & the story takes off like a rocket. By the time all characters are coming into focus at once, years have gone by & all of the characters‘ stories are coming to an end.

It‘s not horrific in today‘s arena of Law & Order SVU or Criminal Minds but you‘ve spent hours getting to know everyone involved & become the 4th detective.

Great fun. Good character study. This was a reread in my Quest to Holly SEPT 23. Two down, 3 to go. ♥️
2y
Bookwormjillk I‘m going to re-read this one soon too. Can‘t wait for Holly. 2y

Book 2 in the Bill Hodges trilogy is another pick. It‘s not quite as good as Mr. Mercedes, but it has great character development and a satisfying ending. The way he gets into the minds of these evil villains is really disturbing. I also loved that this is basically a love letter of sorts to book lovers. I‘m looking forward to seeing how everything plays out in book 3. 4⭐️

This book wasn't as great as the first book. It was definitely still a 4 star book but I really got attached to the 3 characters in the first book and they were only in about 1/4 of the book. It was still a pick, I just wish I could have seen more of the original characters.

Not my favourite King. I've already had some problems with part one, and the second one wasn't any better. I just couldn't seem to get into the story, and it all seemed superficial to me. At least, when you keep in mind that it's a book by Stephen King. I'm still going to read part three, of course. It's still Stephen King after all.

I liked this one even better than Mr. Mercedes!

Stephen King dove in to more of a crime thriller compared to his typical horror with Finders Keepers.

A boy, Pete, literally stumbles upon a hidden treasure. Not only does he now have money to help with his family, but there were also notebooks full of unpublished work from a famous author.

But what happens when the person who hid the treasure wants it all back? End had me on the edge of my seat!

I have discovered the voice of Will Patton (thanks to my wonderful friend Bonnie) and am listening to my third audiobook in one week. (That‘s very unlike me, but it allows me to read AND play mindless games on my Switch. Multitasking!) I guess I went a bit out of order, as I listened to The Outsider first, but now I‘m cruising through the Bill Hodges trilogy. Kind of obsessed!

Kali I multi-task, too! I love to listen to audio books while I crochet! I just finished listening to this book, my first time listening to this particular reader. I greatly enjoyed him. 4y

The gang is back at it again and I love their chemistry! This second installment held my attention better than the first. I'm relieved how Brady was tied into the story but not as the centerpiece. This could be a completely independent story, but it makes sense to be happening in the same world with the same cast of characters. I can't wait to read the next one!
