Blood Test: A Comedy | Charles Baxter

Mehso-so

The title states it as a comedy but it‘s just an overall odd subject. A brief read that kept me interested to see what happens to the main character. I didn‘t love it or hate it. Quite different than I‘ve read before. A good length as any longer and I would have probably lost interest.

I had to start this book a few times to get into it and I‘m glad I did. It was a different approach and I enjoyed the story. A murder mystery of sorts with the narrator being one of the main characters. Worth a read.

I'm a Stephen King fan so this review is a bit biased. I enjoyed all the stories in this book. Some were more memorable than others but overall I really enjoyed all of them. My favorite was the story titled "Rattlesnakes". Whether you're a fan of King or not, it's a great book of stories.

rachelk Rattlesnakes was my favorite too! 4mo

Sleepless City: A Nick Ryan Novel | Reed Farrel Coleman

My first book by this author who wrote crime fiction. This is his newest character, Nick Ryan, who has been brought into a new undercover secret police force. I would say that this is a fairly typical plot but I enjoyed his character and some of the others that were introduced to in the book. It‘s a fun read and I would read other books in this series if/when they come out.

A dark, somewhat horror, book in which every chapter is a member of the family speaking abd telling their story. I had read one of authors previous books and this was also a good read. If you like horror, you‘ll enjoy this book.

A story about domestic abuse and revenge. The author really doesn‘t get into the plot until about half way through the book as first half really focuses deeply on character development. It was slow at times but a satisfying ending.

Interesting book about the author's career in the CIA. From her recruitment, her training and her departure she discusses it all and how it affects her personally. I enjoyed it. Perfect length and level of detail.

The second book in the series following Detective Vega. I read a review of this book which had me start the series from the beginning. This is book 2 in the series. An enjoyable read and Vega is a character you truly root for. A good mystery as she tries to solve a few murders set in the Chicagoland area. She has a third book in the series coming in August 2023.

I've enjoyed Rick Reilly from his columns at Sports Illustrated to his books about golf. He's a golf fanatic like I am and this is another easy and enjoyable read. I don't believe it's his best book but I still enjoyed it. It's amazing to hear about some of the golf courses he's played and it's good for the reader to dream about doing the same.

I picked up this book after reading positive reviews. and was my first read of this author. It took me a little while to get into the book and while it was wrapped up well at the end, I personally didn't appreciate it as much as most readers. It focuses on one man and his experience with time travel.

As a big music fan, including the music of AC/DC, I really enjoyed the biography of Brian Johnson, their lead singer. The book starts at the very beginning of his child hood and goes into much detail about his early years and band he played in before his breakthrough with AC/DC. Surprisingly, the AC/DC portion is a small amount of the book. Very interesting and really enjoyable read!

I‘ve really enjoyed the first few books in this series but I found this one an average read. Jack Carr is a good writer, well developed characters but this one just didn‘t grab my attention like the others. The main character James Reece continues to get his revenge and the book sets up the next in the series. I‘ll pick up the next one when it‘s written but for now I‘ll move on.
