First entry in my book journal. I have a spreadsheet to keep track of what I‘ve read, but this appeals to me because I can write notes and quotes. A very thoughtful birthday gift!
The prettiest book cover and the prettiest kittens!
I was a little let down by the 4th book in the series, but I‘m immediately hooked on this one. It‘s a 32 hour audiobook! But I‘ll get a lot of listening time this weekend when I take a road trip to Pennsylvania for my cousin‘s 1st birthday party.
This photo was taken on Oct 16, 2018, and the memory has inspired me to FINALLY read the book. Just in time to get her newest book😋
I bid farewell to my Jeep yesterday. I don‘t know why I‘m sad, because I have a fabulous new vehicle, and I will see the Renegade again. She‘s returning to Colorado to be driven by my mom and nephews.
We listened to more than 3 hours of this book today!
Reading on the couch with one of my orange ladies
My family has been telling me that I need to watch the show. But I gotta read it first, duh
It‘s cute enough when she sits behind me and purrs, but then she puts the little paw on my shoulder!
Hurrying to finish this book before it‘s due back to the library. I was very excited to read this one but it‘s letting me down a bit. (I think the kittens are confused by my staying in bed all morning.)
Same, Lou. Same.
New glasses! They‘re so different from my last pair, and it‘s taking some getting used to. I‘m listening to this book and REALLY into it. Tough lady librarians delivering books on horseback👍🏻 I like the narration a lot.
I LOVE it when Margaret Catwood unplugs my lamp while I‘m reading and everything goes dark. THANKS. But about the book...I‘m nearing the end, needing to finish before book club on Monday. It‘s very fitting that we‘ll discuss it on a day commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. I read the chapter ‘The Nazis and the acceleration of caste‘ the day before the invasion of the US Capitol. The connection between the reading and the insurrection is chilling.
I‘m reading Caste for a book club next week, but I need a break, so Margaret Catwood and I are turning our attention to this one. (Louisa May Alcatt is here too😸)
Came across this on a jog the other day, and I‘m still puzzling over it. Kind of like this book - I have no idea what it is, but I‘m so intrigued!
Did you chew on this, or was it your sister? Luckily, I have many more bookmarks. But Louisa May Alcatt also chews on the books!
I told myself I would start studying again today, no more procrastination! But I only studied about 30 minutes out of a planned 2 hours. Instead, I‘m reading my second book of 2021.
Not gonna lie, I‘ve had a TV crush on him for years. The book is funny, too! I respond well to his type of humor, and he also seems very intelligent. I don‘t think I‘ve ever finished a classic Russian novel, but he has inspired me.
#3books that I DNF‘d
I‘ve watched the newest episode of Great British Baking Show, and now I‘m trying to get some reading in, but I‘d really rather go to sleep. What has happened to me, going to bed at 10:00 on a Friday night?! The girls are usually waking up right about now, to chase and savagely attack each other. (Also, I think they‘ve eaten/destroyed/lost my RBG earrings👎🏻)
The reading chair has a new purpose😻😻
Positives about allergy testing: extra reading time, and knowing that some relief is near. Negatives about allergy testing: 5 days of misery without antihistamine, followed by 13 little needles in your arm.
Book readings aren‘t the same in the time of Covid, but at least it‘s been signed🖊
Lazy Sunday morning reading with Louisa May Alcatt and Margaret Catwood. #kittensoflitsy
A little light reading about corpses while I get pampered.
After 10 days, I‘ve finally decided on names! Top: Louisa May Alcatt, most likely to be called Lou or Lulu. Bottom: Margaret Catwood (shamelessly stolen from Internet search), nickname options of Mags, Peggy, Maggie, Meg, or MC, etc. Margaret Catwood is taking longer to warm up to me than Lou, but we‘ll get there. #kittensoflitsy
The 1st chapter hit close to home, as I‘ve had my dad and 2 cats cremated since June 2020. I would have felt better about the process if I could have spent more time with Dad‘s body, or had a ceremony like that at the outdoor pyre in Colorado. This urn contains some of Dad‘s ashes that I sometimes bring with me when I travel. Here, at Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda in February. I know it‘s a little weird but it makes me feel more connected to him.
Reading about twins, so it seems like a good time to introduce my new kittens that are nearly identical. It‘s been a week now, but I haven‘t decided on names yet. The girls are definitely comfortable in the apartment, and slowly warming up to me. I still miss Squeak, but it‘s such a joy to watch these two wildlings play and cuddle.
I had to put my sweet Squeak to sleep on Aug 4th. I haven‘t posted about it because I‘ve been too sad. It was so difficult to say goodbye to a pet that I‘ve spent 18 years loving. But today I adopted two little kittens, so I think it‘s time to share about Squeak. She won‘t be forgotten any time soon, but I hope to share some pics of my new girls in the next couple days. You know, when they stop hiding under the bed😺😺
Cooler temps this week allowed me to bake banana bread, while listening to an audiobook😁
I may never read a physical edition of a Stephen King novel again, with such good narration. This is my 5th King audiobook in Summer 2020!
I began by reading this on the Kindle app but quickly tired of the format. My dear friend was nice enough to lend me her beautiful hardcover edition! The reading of the lyrics wouldn‘t be as enjoyable for me if I hadn‘t been listening to the album on repeat for a few weeks.
As with the last book I finished, I‘m listening to the audiobook from the library instead of reading the hardcover on my shelf. I really liked Flight Behavior but DNF‘d The Poisonwood Bible. I‘m happy to be listening to the author‘s voice.
The audiobook kick continues...I‘m liking this book more than I did Doctor Zhivago! The book and its author are at the center of the story. I liked the 1965 movie, but the book was another matter. I‘ve read very little Russian lit, but I think it‘s possible that it‘s just not for me. I‘m liking the narration, but it took me some time to realize that there are 3 perspectives, not just 2. Perhaps that wouldn‘t have happened with a physical book.
That moment when your real life collides with the book you started listening to yesterday. I wondered about the title of this book, but I guess I didn‘t really understand it until the term came up during my study session tonight. I skipped over this book when it came out, because I had already read She Said, but it‘s equally fascinating and has additional info. I can‘t decided if I like Farrow‘s accents on the audiobook or not🤔
Discovering new authors! Second book reading of last night. Both Lindsay and Caitlin Doughty were lovely, smart, and bad ass.
First of two virtual book readings last night. Hope is currently living in Oslo and was in conversation with Barbara Kingsolver in Virginia. I loved Lab Girl, and will definitely read this new one. I‘m at a bit of a crossroads in my chemistry career-I‘ve decided to take the Patent Office exam, so I expect to be out of the lab in 6 months. I have a lot of studying ahead of me, and little time for reading. Scared but excited!
I get to virtually meet a favorite author tonight!
For a second, I forgot which book I was reading😝. It‘s not Hogwarts!
First time at a nail salon in almost 5 months! There are a lot of restrictions in place to keep everyone safe😷👍🏻
My audiobook phase continues! I have a signed hardcover, but I‘m taking advantage of available titles at the library.
“How quiet the woods are today...not a murmur except that soft wind purring in the treetops! It sounds like surf on a faraway shore. How dear the woods are! You beautiful trees! I love every one of you as a friend.” This is Bubba. He gently carried me on a trail through some woods today. It wasn‘t exactly quiet, but it felt so good to be out in nature. Anne even crossed my mind while I was atop the horse.
