I was worried that this book wasn‘t going to be my jam and I was right, it wasn‘t… that being said, I didn‘t completely hate it. There were parts that I enjoyed but it was way too sciencey for me and the ending seriously lacked in my opinion.

Really enjoying this so far! Yes, it has science, which makes my brain tingle. It‘s engaging and funny, very enjoyable so far!!
Feeling cozy on this rainy day with my book, blanket, a fire, and the golden bachelorette!!
I am not sure this will be my jam but I am excited to dive in, nonetheless!! 🤓
I've been told this is a “perfect“ book but the ending is a tiny bit lacking for me to make it absolutely perfect. Either way, this book made me laugh and cry and was a joy to read as the other Weir books were. Still would highly recommend this author for an entertaining read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Project Hail Mary” is a book that I‘ll be thinking about for a long time. The plot, humanity‘s impending extinction, Ryland‘s character arc, and (of course) Ryland‘s and Rocky‘s friendship are all major reasons why I gave this book all five stars. There is a lot of science in this book, however Weir writes in a way that you will still understand the plot and the book, even if you don‘t get the terms or concepts that he uses.

📚Currently reading:
📕A Dance with Dragons
📕Akechi Kogoro
📙The Witness for the Dead
📙Project Hail Mary
Progress:
Made steady progress with ADWD and PHM though I was busy during the last week and didn't manage to finish anything. I will probably finish one book this week.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐I don't know why I waited so long to read this #NetGalley ARC. Maybe I feared it wouldn't be as good as Weir's other novels. While this isn't quite as awesome as The Martian, it's a close second, and will probably be my favorite book this year. I'm hoping Weir comes out with a new novel soon because he has reached auto-buy status. This was my 6th book for #SciFiSummer

Progress:
It felt like a slow week but I made steady progress with ADWD and finished My Best Friend's Exorcism which was an extremely fun read. I also started Project Hail Mary which I've been wanting to start for a while, as I keep hearing a lot of praise for it. So far it's been a good listen. Will continue with the same pace
This was my 2021 BOTY! I have 2 special editions 😊 I just listened to the book for a second time! I still love it!! Possibly more! Ray Porter killed it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I liked this more than I expected to, but it wasn‘t described as “junior high science teacher finds alien life and saves the world” and that‘s basically it.
I really enjoyed this book and the relationship between the characters. Sometimes I found the constant problem/solution loop frustrating but overall the story was great.
Loved it! I‘m not a huge sci-fi girl but this is my 2nd Weir book (also loved The Martian) so maybe I just love his sci-fi. Just a great read!

#pop24 - book set in space
I was really in the mood for Sci-Fi these last two weeks after seeing Dune, Arrival, Interstellar and The Martian 👽. However, #ProjectHailMary didn‘t blow me away. It‘s pretty good and humorous, but the ending was a bit disappointing.

Saving the universe from star eaters. “Memory gap / flashbacks / amnesia drugs” chronology flipping is cheesy, but allows Grace interaction outside of isolation. Lotsa space chemistry. I resisted Rocky, but found fondness. Would watch Rocky sleep. My new mantra: “I may not have all the answers, but I‘m here.” 2021
P390 “I‘m not the right guy for this job. I‘m a last-second replacement because the actually qualified people blew up. But I‘m here.”
My husband and I listened to Project Hail Mary as our road trip book. We both loved it. He said the science was good, and it wasn‘t too far over my head too often. The story was great and touching. I wasn‘t expecting that ending. I liked The Martian, but loved this book. We started Agent to the Stars, and I continued with The Ghost Orchid on my #audiowalk
"Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir. 7,9/10 rating.
For me, this book was pretty controversial. The first half of the book i felt distracted, but after it began picking up pace it was quite fun and interesting.
Still, these are not my kind of books, but I must say I liked it a lot more than other books of this type. Thanks, dad for recommending it to me!
Ps: I shipped Ryland with Stratt, am I the only one??
Also my favorite for the year!
✅ science fiction
✅ fast paced
✅ unique

I read 40 books in 2023 and these 15 were my favorites.
Top Row: Nonfiction/Memoir
Middle Row: Fiction
Bottom Row: Science Fiction/Horror/Middle Grade
If I had to pick just one favorite I would say…Project Hail Mary!
Another great year of reading!
Happy Reading to all in 2024!
Running Saturday errands & the craft market I planned to lunch at had very limited food options today (hot ramen & look at the temp—TMI but today‘s snarky weather quote is sadly true! Doubly sad for November vibes!)😓
I stopped for to-go poke & as all the outside seating area is full I‘m enjoying lunch & air con in my car listening finally to the tagged book. It‘s a bit disquieting as the narrator sounds like my old colleague “Safety Steve.”😆

My Bookly app predicts this will take me about 11 hours.
Hoping also to add some points for #TeamBOOkLovers in the #scarathlon.
97/150 I'll be the first to admit I didn't finish The Martian, got bogged down in the science. I thought I'd have the same problem with this, but ended up enjoying it a lot. One thing like like about Weir's characters is they work the problem. No magic, no dumb luck or coincidence, they do the math, solve the equations and save the day. The end was a bit anticlimactic but overall an excellent adventure. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
#20in4
Where has this month gone?!? My goals for #20in4 are to start the tagged for #scifibookclub and finish Rosalie Palmer.
Kissing September goodbye, it flew by so fast. My main goals for this readathon is to finish Project Hail Mary for #LitsySciFiBookClub and The Space Race on audio, so that
I can start Starter Villain (audio) and From A Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi with the beginning of October.
Good luck to everyone joining in.
#20in4 @Andrew65
I got this hefty(ish) tome from the library yesterday for #LitsySciFiBookClub #LSFBC and now I just need to start it. That‘s not at all intimidating.
#LitsySciFiBookClub #LSFBC @TheSpineView
Excellent choice, even though I didn't vote for it myself, which is a good outcome!
The Sci element is hard-school, but not so much that it's like reading a technical manual, the Fi element is engaging and with enough lightheartedness to leaven the "future of humankind at risk" high-stakes loaf (my metaphors are out of control here!). And, I really enjoyed the relationship between the two MCs. 4.75⭐
Got to page 100, and I'm enjoying it so far. Eminently filmable, which I guess is the idea: this first part is the recruitment phase of the Project, with neat contrasts between settings & characters, which gives the narrative a propulsive forward momentum.
#LitsySciFiBookClub #LSFBC
PS. @TheSpineView If this is too much info, too soon, please let me know. I deliberately haven't mentioned plot, just feels, but I'll save it for later if preferred😊
Reading this for the #LitsySciFiBookClub September/October read, and it's my first by this author, a chunkster by my standards, and modern in comparison with my usual sci-fi reads, so much to discover, I hope 😊👩🚀🚀
@thespineview #LSFBC
I have tallied all the votes and the winner is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. This is a reread for myself. I enjoyed it and look forward to sinking back into this book.
The page count is 476. Therefore, it will span two months. Open discussion will begin at the end of October. Let me know if you have any questions or if you are having trouble getting a copy. Since this came out in 2021 there should be plenty of used copies around.
#VolumesAndVocals
After hearing so many good things about this as an audiobook, I just used an Audible credit for it. About a #RocketMan
“And I think it's gonna be a long, long time
'Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh, no, no, no
I'm a rocket man
Rocket man, burning out his fuse up here alone”
🚀
Ryland Grace wakes up out of a coma with amnesia to find himself approaching Tau Ceti. As his memory comes back in bits and pieces he remembers that he is on a mission to save the human race.
I really enjoyed this story, following Grace as he works out the nature of the problem, and seeks a solution. The author does a great job of showing how he arrives at a solution rather than just presenting the answer. All the stars.
Not my typical genre so probably a me problem over the book but I drifted too much while listening to this. There were times I almost bailed but some chapters ended in a way I had to keep on which I‘m glad I did as it was a good listen overall - it just took me a while to get past the first person narrative; I felt like I was being taught which sometimes took me out of the story. I loved Rocky and the ending was really good.
When both your husband and bestie love a book, you boost it to the top of your TBR and hope you love it too.
And I did. It was quite a ride, emotionally and galactically.
I had heard this was a bit of a sophomore slump, but I‘m so glad I listened to it anyway! I enjoyed listening to this every bit as much as I enjoyed reading The Martian. It certainly made housework much more fun!
