This is the fourth of the books set in the Jolvix world that I've read, & it's probably my second least favourite. The story line is good but I disliked the main character. Granted she has issues to do with both her childhood & the death of her first love, but she is absolutely horrible to ex-colleague & friend Ted at times. I found myself a bit irritated with her to be honest. 3.5 🌟

TWs: death, discussion of suicide, drug use/alcoholism.

I really enjoy this series. It wasn‘t as Christmassy as I was expecting, but still a good third book in the series. Book 4 will probably be on my 2025 #Roll100 list.

This was a very dark gritty horror. I can‘t say it wasn‘t well done, but I will say I wanted to be done reading it atleast 100 pages before it ended. it was endlessly gory & the bullying Oskar experienced was stomach turning. I‘m not typically squeamish but it got to be ALOT. I love a gross ugly vampire story & the atmospheric mystery surrounding Oskar‘s neighbor delivered for sure.

ShyBookOwl This was my favourite book for years, but I know there's no way I could read it now that I have a son. It's a tough read but soooo powerful. The movie adaptations (Swedish of same title, and American called Let Me In) are more my pace now 😅 5h
5feet.of.fury @ShyBookOwl I think that might be part of it for me, pregnancy hormones & impending motherhood is making me soft 😅 I have owned the American version on DVD since it came out and have never watched it, and I might never after this 🤣 5h

This is one of those books where every character messed up and everything could have been sorted by just talking to each other. It was immensely frustrating.

If you have a magical whatever that is passed down, talk to your kids about it before they do something. Then when they do do something talk to them rather than prioritizing everything else before that!

⬇️

PuddleJumper This is probably quite a common trope teenage/YA books because the emphasis is on the main character to figure it out. It just didn't make sense in this book.

Despite this, I did enjoy the book. I don't think the romance worked, I didn't believe they were in love, it would have worked fine with them as friends reconnecting.

Three shorts in this one. They were all okay, but more about the characters shagging than anything Christmasy. Sometimes I enjoy Shalvis, but it feels like whenever she has shorter stories, she focuses on spice over story, which just isn't my personal preference lol

But lots of prompts checked off, and another book off my shelf!!

Typical Kelly Christmas novellas, with Napoleonic war settings, lively prose, and ordinary, admirable people falling in love. Very cosy and not too syrupy. Could use a little more proof-reading.

I liked a lot of things about this book. The characters were well developed, which I love. However, there were a few things that annoyed me and made the plot feel forced. I just couldn't get behind the idea that after 17 years, the two main characters haven't been able to get on with their lives. Not genuine at all. The prose and character development get a solid 4.5⭐️ and the plot a sad 2⭐️.

TheSpineView Averaged together, this is a 3.25 book. #ChristmasAtoZ @Texreader #LetterP 21h

I finished The Plight Before Christmas yesterday. I've lost count of how many books I have read this month. I do know that I need to read 16 more to reach 300. 🤞
