More manga, this time from the library. I'm doing a booktube 30 volumes of manga in 30 days challenge this month and using it to try different series.
I read Promised Neverland today, and it is dark.

I read Promised Neverland today, and it is dark.
Barnes and Noble had a buy one get one 50% off manga sale, and this is my haul from Sunday. Partner got three volumes.
I'd already read FANGS but want to collect the volumes.
For every book by a trans author I read for #transrightsreadathon I donated $20. I meant to read five, but a flare-up slowed me down.
I was happy to see some members here participating!
It is terrifying out there, so if you have the means, please consider donating to the Trans Health Legal Fund: https://transgenderlawcenter.org/thlf-donate
Fourth book for the #transrightsreadathon completed yesterday. This one was a very dark romance. Our NB MC is pursued by a demon as they return to their hometown after their mother's death. The MC is deeply depressed and dealing with trauma.
I appreciate that both of the books of Moon's that I've read begin with CWs and TWs. This author is a new favorite.
I LOVED THIS. One of the best books I've read this year, and it's only 153 pages! Magic (of various kinds), romance, horror, queer main characters, resilience.
I'm definitely going to read more from this talented author.
Third book for the #transrightsreadathon complete.
Second book complete for the #transrightsreadathon after recovering from the book hangover that Iron Widow left me with.
There are potential CWs here because it depicts being a trans teen accurately, I would say. Gender dysphoria is definitely one of them. I'll be buying the rest of the series.
Here's some of my tbr for the #transrightsreadathon this week! I've started For the Love of April French by Penny Aimes and Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao.
For every book I finish this week, I'll donate $20 to the Trans Health Legal Fund of the Transgender Law Center.
I'm so happy to see people on here participating! What are you reading?
I was intrigued for the first half or so. Then it started to feel draggy, and I just wanted to finish. The endless misogyny.
I appreciate what the author was doing here, and the magic system was interesting. I'm just tired lol.
If you're considering reading this, I highly recommend checking the TWs first. It is so much nonstop trauma and darkness.

Just a friendly reminder that this book is transphobic and why.
(BTW, this booktuber is great.)
Why I don't read this author: http://coalition.org.mk/archives/8188?lang=en

A cinematic, fun ride all the way through. It was more gruesome than I expected (not complaining) so it felt almost like a slasher at some points. I'll probably check out the movie adaptation at some point.
#20in4 readathon second book
I gave this 3 stars on SG. While I liked it overall, there were a few aspects that bothered me, like the fat phobic comments the namesake character made and some internalized misogyny on her part. The audiobook was released in 2016, and I'm going to attribute the problematic stuff to that and give O'Roark one more try. This has some dark elements, so check the CWs if that's something that might bother you.
#20in4 readathon 1st book
A fun read. Like others have said, this was spicy, but it was also sweet. And kind of swoony?
If you like bodyguard romance, check this one out. The main guy is pretty possessive, but that didn't bother me. You might want to check the content warnings for past trauma before you pick it up.
I love that I started off my week accidentally doing the #backlistreadathon before I knew it was a thing. 😂 I learned that I don't care for Devney Perry's Lark Cove series and would recommend staying away from the last full length novel in it.
In addition to these three books, I reread an old favorite. Thanks, @TheAromaofBooks @Clwojick for hosting!
Well, I guess I spoke too soon about continuing with this author's backlist this week for #backlistreadathon. The tagged book of hers contains problematic rep, if not outright racism, a great example of how NOT to do Indigenous rep. Gross.
Only a few people even bring up the issues in reviews. Boy does this genre have a long way to go.
I realized today that I've been inadvertently reading for #backlistreadathon this week by reading the Lark Cove series by Devney Perry. 🤣 I'm planning on finishing the series and then I'll probably read more of Perry's backlist.
@Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks
I haven't done one of these in a while.
Goals:
📚 Finish the tagged book.
📚 Finish Everything for You by Chloe Liese.
📚 Start the next book in The God-King Chronicles.
📚 Start the second book in the Chorus of Dragons series by Jenn Lyons.
#FabulousFebruary @Andrew65
Going to start this today. I have a paper copy of the book on my shelf so I can go back and forth if I want. Today's been a bit of a slow day mentally, but last night I read some comics that were great. +1
+ 10 (2 podcast episodes)
#scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash
Finally started this today (thanks, Libby). This month has been busy.
It's weird to see Phoenix as a setting in a book. 👀
#scarathlon #TeamMonsterMash @StayCurious
Some of the comics I'm going to read this month. Haven't gotten much reading done in the past two days (except fanfic ha), but I did watch two episodes of The Sandman on Netflix. +16 points #teammonstermash #scarathlon @StayCurious
Update on #20in4 special readathon progress:
-7 hours listening to Bonds of Brass (did not like)
-1 hour reading Horror Film: A Critical Introduction by Murray Leeder
Starting the tagged book today. We'll see how it goes.
Not bad. Not great but not bad. It's a fun escape with a decent mystery. I'd recommend reading an ebook or paper copy over the audiobook.
As usual, my planned tbr has gone out the window this month, and I've just been reading and listening to YA of different genres. Please share any recs you might have, especially for horror.
Starting this today. I finished Kiss & Tell by Adib Khorram earlier. It was a nice escape. I also started Stephen Graham-Jones' latest audio only release but wasn't feeling it. I've been reading a lot, but a lot of it has been a really long, amazing fanfic. 🤣
I've begun my #BookerPrize22 reading with Booth and picked up the tagged book during a library browse over the weekend. It's the dark horse of my recent reading. The understated writing, the bitingly dry humor, Joan herself. I'm surprised I haven't seen more talk about it on here.
#dogsoflitsy
Been at a bit of a loss as to what to read next and then saw the Booker Prize longlist. Thanks go to the person who posted about this quiz that tells you which book to start with! I think I'll try to read as many of these as I can this month. It'll be good to push myself out of my reading comfort zone.
This blew me away. Dark, eerie, unique, creepy, it's more Gothic haunted house horror about parent-child relationships than thriller. If you go into this thinking it's going to be action-packed from the beginning, you're going to be disappointed. It starts off slow, and there are dual timelines--both from the main character's POV--and man was it worth the build up.
I recommend the audiobook. Xe Sands does a nearly perfect performance.
Not at all scary or satisfying but intriguing nonetheless. A thought-provoking, feminist retelling with lush prose and a fairytale aesthetic.
The audiobook narrator is top-notch.
My fifth and final read for #summerween (read a short nonfiction about haunted places in the US yesterday).
It starts off a bit slow but ultimately becomes a banger of an audiobook. Nathalie Buscombe does a great job.
Definitely different from any other thrillers I've read this year.
Book three of #summerween.
I DNFed The Fireman at 24% because I didn't care about the characters unfortunately. Then my hold on the tagged book came up in Libby. The audiobook is excellent so far. #summerween
Day 3 of #summerween. Finished The Hollow Places last night (spoiler alert: I loved it). Today's read is for the Halloween colors prompt.
Day 2 of #summerween. I've got coffee, tabs, a live reading sprint, and the house to myself for the next several hours. This is my read in the dark pick. We shall see how creepy it is.
THE TENSION. THE SUSPENSE. THE CREEPINESS. Not to mention all the viscera. Highly recommend the audiobook.
First read for #summerween down.
My first read for #summerween. 92% in and literally can't stop listening.
Ivan isn't in the database apparently, but I read this on a whim because a good amount of the booktubers I sub to love this author. It's a bit of a non-stop ride, in an entertaining way. It's a dark mafia romance (my first), and I can see why people like this author's work. Since I have KU right now, I'll probably read another by her for funsies.
Excellent. I want to read everything the author's written and will write. The narrator does a fantastic job with the audiobook.
Now to find another mystery/thriller that'll live up to this one. Anyone have any recs?
Started listening to this earlier today, and I'm surprised by how intriguing it is. Interesting structure. The husband is going out with friends tonight so continuing is my plan, at least until the special gummy I ate kicks in. 😅
I read this yesterday. Mysterious, compelling, reflective, with fascinating characters. This was a historical fiction rec from a booktuber, and I'm glad I decided to read something different from my usual genres.
First book completed for #20in4 readathon. So far, I've read a total of 14 chapters.
I'm still sick and I need a mental break/some self-care so I'm joining the #20in4 readathon. My current read is tagged, and I don't know what I'll be reading after that (depends on what I can snag on Libby or Hoopla, as I don't think I have the brain capacity to read any of the chunky fantasy on my shelves rn). @Andrew65
Please take care of yourselves.
I've got the sniffles so I'm nesting on the couch, and I was able to finish this. It's fun, pretty fast-paced, and brings up some fascinating concepts. It's a quick read, but the epilogue could've been shorter and less explain-y imo. Also, there was some stereotypical characterization of some of the characters of color that made me uncomfortable. Though I enjoyed this overall, I won't be continuing with the series.
Slump officially busted!
Finally got sucked into a book last night. Robot sci-fi. Fingers crossed my reading slump is busted. 🤞
