After 2 months of not so great picks I am glad book club tonight was mostly a success (1 person didn't care for it but he mostly blames the audiobook for putting him to sleep). Good friends, good books, & good wine...what more can you ask for?!

Book club meets next week so I should probably start the book 😬😜
🎧 Like a good amount of the books I own. When this came out it was 100% a COVER BUY!
It‘s been on my TBR for awhile. I picked it up last week & read it strait thru
3 POV in the time line that all come together.
Present day (Krona).
2 years prior (Melanie).
9 years prior to that (Charbon the serial killer).
A great antagonist!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3 👇🏻
Another #NetGalley #ARC from the lower slopes of #MountARC. It was published in 2021.
Told from opposing POV. Yes, the world-building took some time and there were slow passages, but all in all I wanted to know how the POVs came together and how the whole story fit and would play out.
A book that took me out of my fantasy-funk! I‘m looking forward to reading the next instalment.

Day 3 of #summerween. Finished The Hollow Places last night (spoiler alert: I loved it). Today's read is for the Halloween colors prompt.
This is a genre bending book. It‘s a fantasy/mystery/horror book…I guess? I liked it! I think not knowing much going in is best, but the magic system involves masks, the mystery begins with a theft and ends up being linked to brutal murders. It is very unique, has multiple timelines and can be at times hard to follow (though that may be due to listening to it vs reading physically). If you want something new and dark I recommend! 4⭐️

Over a month ago my cats saw a cat through an open window and then proceeded to get in a bad fight with each other. They‘ve just started being okay being around each other again. We spent a good chunk of today hanging out. I‘m so happy! It‘s been so stressful having to keep them separated.
The story was interesting , I just kept getting distracted.
New book, dinner, and a pineapple cider.
Wooooow! Started this last night and what a great opening! This is book 1 in a planned trilogy. Features a dark fantasy mystery with really cool world lore and magic systems.
I'm definitely all in! 👏
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
My hold returned and gave me a 9 week wait, so I said screw that and bought it to finish it: that's how good this is! It's a murder mystery set in this intricate, dark fantasy world that has a super diverse cast and a very, very cool magic system. Seriously, I loved it and I'm so bummed I have to wait for the next one (8/2/22).
Got my second covid vaccine and now I‘m laid up in bed sick 🤒 I knew that having symptoms afterwards was not unusual, but I had hoped that perhaps I might escape with just a headache like most of my family. No such luck. Ah well, I‘d rather have the vaccine than not and now I get to amuse myself with this stack of books for the night, rather than do other things...like homework 😅
Omg what was this book?! I finished it in one sitting and my legs hate me now but who needs to walk anyway? 🙄 Fantastic magic system, compelling characters, a murder mystery. It's Silence of the Lambs meets Mistborn as the author describes it. Do I need to say more? Read it now! Like right now.
Publication date - 4/13/21
Seems like there‘s NO breastfeeding or untimely babies ... YES! TBR add! Sadly I‘ve got some big books ahead of it ... but check this out ... right up my alley, right?!!
“Hannibal meets Mistborn in Marina Lostetter‘s THE HELM OF MIDNIGHT, the dark and stunning first novel in a new trilogy that combines the intricate worldbuilding and rigorous magic system of the best of epic fantasy with a dark and chilling thriller.”
This start to a new fantasy series is a downright impressive one! It feels modern - with great diversity and originality with the magic! Plus, it‘s almost a blend of a mystery/thriller alongside the rich background of a fascinating and fantastic world. The characters come to life and the plot holds some surprises - plus some more serial killerish violence than your average fantasy. I can‘t wait to see where the series will go next!!
