Challenge Accepted!
Challenge Accepted!: A Simple Strategy for Living Life on Purpose | James Woosley
119 posts | 3 to read
In 2013, James Woosley pursued 40 goals before his 40th birthday. He didn't realize it would end up being the most intentional year of his life. This book is about his journey, but more importantly, it's about yours. PURPOSE - You live your life differently when you have a mission, even if you still don't understand the "meaning of life." Defining a collection of goals is a purpose, if only to point you in the right direction. And you have a better chance of getting there if you're moving. INTENSITY - There's already a spark of desire inside you. Setting ambitious goals and firm deadlines will feed that fire and get you moving. Along the way, you may just wake up to all that life has to offer. It's time to move forward with intensity. ADVENTURE - We all want adventure, but we don't all want the same adventure in the same way. Yours is calling to you, begging you to come out and play. Will you answer the call and find your adventure? You may just find something that feeds your soul.

Klou Joined! I wasn't going to do challenges in 2023 because I'll mainly be using my tbr jar but I'll join them on a no-plan basis. See how many I can tick off without purposely choosing those books 😁 2y
Clwojick @Klou good Plan! My main goal for 2023 is to lower the amount of downloaded chirp and NetGalley books on my phone, so I‘ll just pick and choose from my large collection to tick of my prompts. 2y
Gissy But. Do I have to summit the titles now? I‘m a season/mood reader, I never know what I‘m going to read next🤷🏽‍♀️But I will like to participate in #SayMyName 2023 challenge 2y
Clwojick @Gissy not at all! I added some books I already had on my phone, but I‘m sure I‘ll change out what books I actually use as the year goes on. 2y
Gissy @Clwojick Then, yes, I will like to participate🙋🏽‍♀️ 2y
Klou @Clwojick good luck!! 2y

Heads up!!! The 2nd Round of pictures for #AestheticallyMatched will be released very soon! As with Round 1, you don‘t need to match every picture if you don‘t want to. Simply pick the pictures that speak to you. I‘ve selected a bunch of photos to give you guys a good variety. Here‘s a sneak peak! ☺️

Tagging everyone who‘s tagged me in Round 1, though it‘s open for all to join.

tdrosebud Are round 1 pictures still open to use or are they retiring? 3y
julesG Oh wow. I thought there was only one round. 😳 I have a few more books to add to the pictures of round 1 then. I know, it's not a must, but I want to. 3y
PageShifter Wow, I would love to join! 3y
See All 12 Comments
Clwojick @tdrosebud you can still use them! There‘s no end date to any of the pictures. Just have fun with it! 😊😊 3y
Clwojick @julesG I still have like 15 or so left for the first round too, but I was having so much fun with it that I wanted to release another round. ❤️ 3y
Clwojick @PageShifter would love to have you? 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Keep me posted!! 3y
PageShifter Oh yes, if it's okay to use pictures from round 1 I have to see if I find them and try to find matches for them as well 🥳 3y
FantasyChick Sweet!! Can't wait to see what can be matched this round. 3y
LaraS Ooo, exciting! I love using visuals for a reading challenge! 3y
RaeLovesToRead Hi, would you be able to post the link to round 1 for me in the comments here? I don't think I bookmarked it and I can't find it... 3y

Trying to organize the order of my bullet journal spreads for 2022. I‘ve done a ton of research on the challenges I‘d like to participate in, and I‘m just so excited to get started that I couldn‘t wait to get my #bulletjournal all set up.

Crazeedi So organized! 3y
FantasyChick Can you come do mine? I have zero ambition to get it done 🤣 3y
Clwojick @FantasyChick 😂😂 honestly, the organizing and page layouts are my favourite part of doing a bullet journal. And I‘ve definitely been asked to sell pre made bullet journals before! I should make mini booklets for WinterGames and Scarathlon next year. 3y
See All 8 Comments
Klou I use post it notes to plan my pages too. You're the only person I've come across that does that too. Though you are much more organised than me. I'm still behind with this year's pages 😂 3y
Clwojick @Klou I misplaced my bullet journal during our move earlier in the year, and I was looking for it for a few months. By the time I found it, I was 7 months behind schedule but I just did quick 1-2 page spreads per month and back dated the information.😜 I missed it so much when I couldn‘t find it, that I‘ve just been on a serious kick ever since lol. 3y
Klou @Clwojick great! I'm glad you were able to find it and catch up. Something similar has happened to me. We've just moved and my main pencil case with all my pens in is in a box somewhere so I'm just doing it in pencil until I find it 😂 almost finished October now. The 1-2 page things a good idea if you're behind though. 3y
Linsy I love this!! You always have the best bullet journal! 3y
Clwojick @Linsy thanks! I‘m on a serious kick with it right now. I‘ve finished 100 pages in the last two weeks 😂😅 Just had to order two more in the mail. 3y

Hey team #MistletoeManaics! There are a ton of readathons, and reading challenges going on during the month of December. So many that it‘s going to be hard to keep track of them, so I made up a list on Google. All participants can edit this file, so that we can all add to and share any Readathon details we come across! Link is in the comments! ❤️

1. I do. I like to challenge myself. My problem in the past is trying to do too many challenges at one time.
2. I like to try everything at least once and I think I've loved them all. Some of my favorites have been #bookspin #YAapril #24b4Monday #fairytalereadingchallenge #readacrossamerica #scarathlon and monthly photo prompt challenges

Callemarie @Amiable I love it. I was putting so much pressure on myself to read so many books in a year and this year I was like SCREW IT. I don‘t know why I never thought to do this before haha 4y
AshleyHoss820 🤣 I love it! Honestly, when it gets to the end of the year, I just change my goal so that I‘ll meet it. I just like challenging myself to read more and do less “time-waster” stuff. 😊 (edited) 4y
Avanders 😂 Awesome - well done! 😁🥳😘 4y
KathyWheeler @AshleyHoss820 I do the same thing. In fact, if I notice I‘m falling behind, I just decrease the goal. I‘m very flexible about it. 4y

So I‘m committing myself to 6 #ReadingChallenges in 2021
5 of these challenges are all Litsy hosted

And of course I‘ll be doing #BookSpin2021 as well @TheAromaofBooks

#Booked2021 @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen
#ReadingAsia2021 @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle
#Nonfiction2021 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa
#AAM @Soubhiville
#FoodAndLit @Texreader @Butterfinger
#Pop21
Hoping to use books I own, can borrow or swap
👇🏼

Cinfhen I‘ll be using hashtag #SwapMe in case another Litten would like to do a swap / we‘d exchange books to help fill prompts...who‘s in???? Which challenges are you joining??? 4y
TrishB Only yours 😁 4y
Cinfhen Awwww @TrishB you‘re my #TrueBlue friend xxx 4y
See All 37 Comments
jenniferw88 I may be interested in #swapme - may be able to help with #readingasia2021 and #booked2021 - but it all depends on shipping and covid! 4y
Smarkies I am tackling #nonfiction2021 #booked2021 and #readingasia2021 . But realistically I think I will only finish #booked2021 as I already have my books lined up for that. 4y
Cinfhen Agreed @jenniferw88 we will have to wait and see 🙏🏼💓Hope you‘re feeling well!! 4y
Cinfhen I‘m hoping I‘ll be able to cover multiple prompts from multiple challenges using the same book @Smarkies but that doesn‘t always happen 😜it‘s fun to get creative with your interpretations. I‘m so glad you‘ve already covered most of #Booked2021 prompts!!! We try to make the prompts flexible enough so readers have multiple choices 4y
BarbaraBB I am doing #Booked2021 #pop21 #ReadingAsia2021 and #ATY21 (the Around The Year challenge on Goodreads) 😅. And I‘m in for #swapme! (edited) 4y
Cinfhen 🤗🤗🤗 @BarbaraBB 4y
KarenUK I‘ll be doing 2, maybe 3.... definitely #booked2021 and #pop21, and I‘ll try #AAM again, but did so badly this year! And I‘ll be up for #swapme too! 4y
Librarybelle I sign up for so many challenges, then fizzle dreadfully. Definitely doing #ReadingAsia2021 and #Booked2021 , along with my usual GR reading goal. If #LitsyAtoZ happens again, I‘ll do that too, and I am doing #BBRC . Lots of fun reading for everyone! 4y
alisiakae I‘m doing all of those too! 4y
Butterfinger It is so fun to see what prompts from different challenges fit one book. 4y
AmyG Wow. If anyone can complete these, it‘s you as you read so much! I won‘t be doing much this year as I need to read all the books on my shelves. I need to make room! 4y
Cinfhen I do love to “challenge” myself @AmyG but I also need to curtail my book spending so we‘ll see how far I actually get 4y
Cinfhen #BookTwins👯‍♀️ @4thhouseontheleft 😍‼️♥️ 4y
Simona Since I obviously missed a lot this year I have to do some research on #BookSpin I see it everywhere and I'm and I‘m quite intrigued by tihis game .... 4y
Cinfhen @TheAromaofBooks please tag my lovely friend @Simona and give her the #BookSpin spiel xxxxx 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Simona - Hello!! I host the #BookSpin challenge. The concept is that you make a list of 20 books you've been meaning to read & post it (& tag me) & then on the 2nd of every month I draw 2 numbers & everyone tries to read those numbers from their list - so everyone is reading different books but the same numbers if that makes sense haha Here is a master post I made with more details - https://www.litsy.com/web/post/1989556 & it also talks about ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) the bingo part of the challenge, for those folks who reading 2 books from their list just isn't enough!! If you want to join, all you have to do is make a list of 20 books & tag me. I just posted December's numbers today, so you can even jump in for this month if you want to!! Just let me know if you have any questions - everyone is welcome to play along!! 4y
Simona Wow @TheAromaofBooks thank you. This is literally the master post! I'll skip December, but I will be happy to participate in January. 4y
Cinfhen Thanks for sharing the info @TheAromaofBooks it‘s a fun monthly “challenge” @Simona 💚 4y
Simona Looks like fun activity 😘 I‘m finally at home and I‘m already browsing through my piles stacking for January and trying to combine all the challenges 😅 4y
Cinfhen It‘s a good mental workout @Simona 😊😜trying to sort your challenges (edited) 4y
Simona After looong months of not reading I‘m finally really excited about planning my lists.... and this is also great opportunity to do some dusting on my shelves 🤫 4y
Cinfhen I had a small slump too and it definitely felt good to get excited about my books again @Simona 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Simona - Sounds great!! I usually tag everyone with a reminder about making their list a week before I draw the numbers, so I'll add you to that list!! 4y
Simona @TheAromaofBooks Thank you 🙏I will be prepared 😘 4y
Crazeedi @TheAromaofBooks I'm really going to try to do #BookSpin starting in January, I have so many books on my shelves 4y
Crazeedi @TheAromaofBooks I dont know about the bingo part 4y
Cinfhen #BookSpin is a FUN and EASY way to tackle your TBR @Crazeedi / I don‘t even try to do the BINGO part each month just occasionally 4y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen that's good to know, just start easily! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage You are ambitious! I‘m sticking to just three challenges in 2021, because one is laaaaarge! (#readingasia) 4y
Cinfhen I‘m hoping to do LOTS of #DoubleDipping with #ReadingAsia2021 @BarbaraTheBibliophage and a #TripleScoop would be EVEN better 🍦🍦🍦 4y
andreadmw Where can I find the info on these challenges? Sorry noob here 😂 4y
Cinfhen Welcome @andreadmw Here‘s the sign up link for #Booked2021: https://bit.ly/2ICbIkC

If you go to the other hosts pages using the challenge hashtags you should be able to find the sign up links or if you tag them they can probably direct you to the proper places. #Pop21 is from Pop Sugar and not “officially” hosted on Litsy. I hope you‘ll join us 🥳The reading challenges are a fun way to meet & interact with others❤️

Here‘s my chart for #bfc28....

The M is for mindfulness - target is 10 minutes every day. I use the Calm App - what does anyone else like?
The Y is for yoga - target is 4 times a week.
I added an extra column - the flower is for getting outside every day (whilst we‘re still allowed), either for a walk or to do some gardening.

I‘ve also set myself the challenge of 15 books.

I‘ve done my mindfulness and an audio walk today - yoga starts tomorrow!

Bookzombie That‘s a great chart! 5y

My March #BookSpin list is all ready to go @TheAromaofBooks 🖤🤍 I‘ve decided to simply add in two books to the two slots for my completed February books, and leave the rest of them in the same placement. I‘m going for #DoubleSpin again, and actually hoping to possibly finish off a few extras so I can change out more than two slots for April. 🔥

I‘m jumping on the #BookSpin bandwagon with @TheAromaofBooks starting February. Here are my final choices. Some of these books have been on my TBR for way too long, others I‘ve actually picked up and put down again for another book (multiple times) and two are directly written into my 2020 reading goals. Not sure yet if I‘ll be doing the #DoubleSpin, but I‘ll play it by ear. Can‘t wait to see which number(s) are chosen for February. ♥️

Scochrane26 Several of these I‘ve read & love. 5y

With a little over a week until October begins, I thought it‘s the perfect time to post the list for the #ChillingPhotoChallenge.

For each day of the month, post a picture of a book that reminds you of the daily prompt. Anyone can join in on the fun, but those who‘ve signed up to be on a #Scarathlon team will be earning their team 1 point for each post. So, as always, make sure to use the team hashtag, and tag your Team Captain!

JanuarieTimewalker13 I would try!! If I lasted 2 weeks, could I have $50k? Lol 6y

I think I‘m finally getting the hang of this journaling thing. You‘d think so, after buying a whole storage box of them! Now I just need to read the books to add onto the blank spots🤓 #ReadingWomenChallenge

Repost for @Librarybelle :
If you‘re like me, you have a lot of unread ARCs and e-galleys waiting to be reviewed.

I thought it would be fun to dedicate March to catching up on these books. I know I will have to read a couple non-ARCs in March, but I‘ll read mostly ARCs. I‘d love you to join me too! This is not a competition; set your own goals. Cheer on others. Use #ARCMadDash and tag me, please (because I‘d love to cheer you on too).

MatchlessMarie I love this! Glad to know I'm not the only one. 6y

DGRachel Ooh, yes. This is a good idea. I‘ve sadly neglected my NetGalley shelf. 6y
Librarybelle @julesG @Redwritinghood @hes7 @DGRachel I have no willpower when it comes to requesting from NetGalley. I need a push like this to get through some of my backlog! 6y
julesG Same here. So many interesting books to request, and I'm going to be rejected anyway,... And then I have 20 new books on the shelf 6y
LapReader I‘m in! 6y
Librarybelle @LapReader It should be a fun way to get through the backlog of books! 6y
ferskner YES. I fear that I'll never be caught up on my print and digital galleys, but this is a good thing to concentrate on instead of library books. 6y

Setting & Keeping Your Reading Challenge Goal 📚📆

So I decided to write a blog on how to set and keep a Goodreads reading challenge goal, since I've killed it the last two years.

I am really bad about completing reading challenges but I thought I would give this one and try and maybe it will help me read some of my TBR books that I have had forever. If you would like to join the challenge head over to @BookishMarginalia page for details. #litsyAtoZ

Velvetsun I‘m trying this one too this year. 😊 6y

In 2017, I found #192019 - a challenge to read a book published from 1920 - 2019. I had 3 years to do it - why not?
This has been THE BEST challenge ever. I got to authors & classics I‘d missed. Selecting & shopping for books became a scavenger hunt.
I recommend you do a challenge like this. Since 2019 is upon us, you could make a new one, #192021 - read books from 1920 to 2021 - you have 3 years. Consider it - it will enrich your life❤️

UrsulaMonarch I love this idea! Thanks! 6y
JaclynW Interesting idea! 6y
Sweettartlaura @UrsulaMonarch @JaclynW Do it🙌🏻. For me, it started as my birthday challenge - I figured I was already doing that so I‘d act like I was gonna go for all 100. And in no time, I was❤️ There are all sorts of resources out there, too - Goodreads has lists of the most popular books published each year; there‘s the NYT bestseller lists; there are award winners from each year. So much to help you choose ... and plenty of time to do it!!! 6y
See All 13 Comments
JaclynW @Sweettartlaura I think I will. I will plug in books I'm already reading and then fill in the holes. I've seen those lists on Goodreads, they would definitely be useful! It sounds like fun! And discovery! 6y
JaclynW @Sweettartlaura Did come up with the 3 year deadline yourself? 6y
Sweettartlaura Yay, @JaclynW 🙌🏻. No, I just happened to find this in 2017, so I had the time to manage it. If you expand it to 192021, you‘ll just also happen to have 3 years. If you REALLY want to get down to it and read 100 books this year, go for it 😜📚🙌🏻. Otherwise, you can spread it out as you like 😊 6y
Sweettartlaura And I think I found this via @Marchpane but I don‘t know who originated it🤷🏻‍♀️. @Marchpane was it you? 6y
Marchpane It was! I‘m still plugging away at it but on track to complete by the end of this year. I‘m sooo happy that you have found it so enjoyable! It‘s probably the best thing I‘ve done for my reading too 😊 6y
Sweettartlaura @Marchpane yay 😁 Thanks so much for this brilliant idea 💡 I love it so much that I decided, since I have the time, to go back to what I DNFed & try another book from that year ❤️ I should be done with all but a handful of books from the ‘20‘s. But I‘m sticking with it til the very end! Thanks again! 6y
llwheeler I've been loving this challenge too! You're much further ahead than me though, I'm at 38/100. It will be my main challenge focus this year. 😃 6y
Sweettartlaura @llwheeler Yay 🙌🏻 So glad we have a little tribe of 192019ers 🥰 You‘ve got a lot of great reading ahead! 6y
CoffeeNBooks I love this!! I'm adding it to my bullet journal right now! 📚 6y

What challenges are you tackling in 2029 (EDIT: typo! Obv 2019), Littens? I've never been good at completing challenges, but doing them has always helped to keep me reading. This year, I'm doing #pop19 & #mmdchallenge. What are you aiming for?

tournevis Well, I don't know about 2029, but in 2019, I decided to not out any pressure on myself and not so a challenge. 6y
Reviewsbylola I try to keep it simple, so although there are a lot I would like to do, I‘m sticking with #pop19 and #booked2019 6y
queerbookreader I'm keeping up with #MountTBR and this challenge I made for myself to read cozy mysteries set in every state in the US! 6y

Just setting up a page for the #litsyatoz2019 challenge hosted by @BookishMarginalia , no big deal. I did this challenge in 2017 and had a lot of fun with it - but couldn‘t do it this year because of Morris Award reading. Can‘t wait to get back to it again in the new year! #abecedariantbr

I feel like I‘ve spent so much time prepping for 2019 & reading challenges that everything I‘m reading now feels like a slog because I just want it to be January already. 😂 How does everyone else keep track of their reading challenges? I like to create separate pretty spreadsheets for the fun of it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kz0W6ZNGacvumSkSqVIltZTp-QCwAzWUGDJ2GCE5...

Next I get to create my 2019 reading log! 💃🏼

BarkingMadRead I have a bullet journal, I keep track there 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto As an accountant and a fellow spreadsheet lover I am currently drooling over these. 6y

Spent the afternoon finalizing my #ReadingUSA2019 picks. I‘m choosing to read books set in each state.

The print is tiny! I wanted everything to fit on one page, which isn‘t easy. 🙂

MirrorMask That's awesome! I'm still compiling my list. I'm trying to find books that are already on my tbr 6y
Lcsmcat You‘ve got some good ones on there. 6y
Ash19Lyn I live in Iowa and I‘m totally intrigued about the book you have down for my state - definitely need to check it out! 6y

Librarybelle @MirrorMask Several of these were on my tbr list! 6y
LibLib Wow! What a unique reading challenge for 2019! I absolutely love it! 😍 Although, no books for Washington DC? I bet you could find a few...haha (edited) 6y
Librarybelle @LibLib Thanks! Let‘s see if I can get through all of these, then maybe pick a book for DC! 😁 6y
VeganCleopatra Do the books need to take place only partially in the state? Or more like fully/mostly in that state? I noticed you have some that are only partially set in states so I just want to be sure for my own selections. 6y
Librarybelle @VeganCleopatra You can interpret however you like - whether it‘s 100% set in the state or partially set in the state. For me, if a title is set in more than one state, I selected the state in which most of the action takes place. It‘s based on research from a few websites. And, I made sure more than one website indicated that the title related best to the state. I reserve the right to change my mind as I read too! 🙂 Hope this helps! 6y
MelissaS I just finished Pulp, a YA novel that takes place in DC! 6y

If you need to crack out a few more books this month to meet your challenge goals, check out this list from #Goodreads.
https://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/1441-44-short-books-to-help-you-reach-your-r...

jpmcwisemorgan I‘m binge reading Pandora Pine‘s Cold Case Psychic series so that‘s going to help me meet my Goodreads goal for the year well before the end of the year. They‘re not very long so it‘s messing up my pages per book average but a girl has to do what a girl has to do. 🤷‍♀️ 6y
sprainedbrain I think it says a lot about my current end of the year crunch that I read that and thought... omg I don‘t have time for 44 more. 😂 6y
