Do any of y'all keep a book in your purse in case you find yourself out somewhere waiting on something or someone? In fact, I won't even buy a purse if it's not big enough to hold a book. Pictured: my purse book keeping me company at my child's appointment.

Book Shops: How to Run Them | Ruth Brown Park
post image

I am thinking about starting a Pop-Up Book shop. Not for a source of income, but more for fun and because I love books and my town doesn't have a bookstore and I want people to have a place to buy books every now and then.

My question... how much would you pay for a used book at a Pop-up? I was thinking $5 for adult books and $1 for kids but my husband thinks $5 might be too high. What do you think?? Thank you for any advice you can give!!

Beatlefan129 My local library sells used hardcover adult books for $3 and paperbacks for $2 4y
Amandajoy Depends on the condition of the book. For a paperback in good condition, I would pay $5. 4y
SamAnne Great idea! 4y
Scochrane26 Half-price books usually charges $5-6 for a book, sometimes more or less, depending on condition, how many copies they have, & size. 4y
Soubhiville For newer releases I‘ll often pay half the cover price if it‘s in really good condition. (That‘s how most of Half Price Books is priced.) At charity shops usually $2-$4, but the books are often in worse shape. 4y

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman
post image

I have never read a book by Fredrik Bachman before this one. Turns out I LOVE his writing. He's so funny and heart-felt. Are all his books wriiten like this??

maleahrae @BennettBookworm Do you recommend a particular one (or ones) to read next? 4y
Soubhiville I would suggest Brit Marie or My grandmother asked me to tell you she‘s sorry next. I‘ve loved all his novels except the most recent one. 4y
rwmg Although either can be read as a stand alone, I would recommend reading My Grandmother .... first, since Brit Marie follows a minor character in Myy Grandmother after the events in that book 4y
BennettBookworm Agreed! My grandmother is a good one to read next! Beartown and Us Against You (sequel to Beartown) are really well done and in his same style, but deal with the heavier subject matter of rape. 4y

I loved this book! It was twisty and creepy without being over the top. And I'm OBSESSED with Nina Guerrera. I am so glad this is going to be a series because I definitely want to read more about the tough latina FBI agent and her new team! I thought it was so lovely that she absolutely COULD take care of herself but saw the value and importance of her team. (Continued in comments)⬇️⬇️

Challenges | Ben Bova
post image

Question: How many #bookchallenges do you usually do? How many are you planning this year? This year I did #booked2020 and #readharder2020. For next year I'm doing #booked2021 and the #botm one from Facebook. But I'm also looking at the Popsugar and wondering what Read Harder will have this year. Is 3 too much? Is 4 insane??

Scochrane26 I try not to do many challenges. My library will do a short one again this year, so that‘s probably the only one I‘ll choose. 4y
Soubhiville I have done several at the same time in the past and used the same book across all the challenges if it fit. It all depends on how much you read and how much of a mood reader you are. 4y
Laughterhp I always want to do them all, but I only end up actually doing 2. Otherwise I can‘t read any “fun” or impulse books and I get stressed out! 4y
See All 7 Comments
Amandajoy I do 2 or 3, but try to make sure the books will overlap some. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This is the first year I took part in any, but they were ones where my TBR filled most of the prompts. (The horoscope one, a couple summer bingos, bookspin, scarathlon, & winter games) I'll try to do them again next year and I'm looking at #booked2021 too. It'll work with some of my TBR but still encourage me to go out of my comfort zone a little bit. I may consult the pop sugar one and a couple others to diversify but not aim to get them all. 4y
nanuska_153 I think the best thing is start big with the intention of reducing it to one or two that you are truly enjoying, not point on stressing yourself with many that just become an obligation 4y
LeticiaToraci On Litsy I did #Booked2020 and #BookSpin. I also do a lot of Challenges from Goodreads too. 4y

How to Be an Antiracist | Ibram X. Kendi
post image

Next up in my continued quest to educate myself! This work is so important. I used to be content with the thought that I "wasn't racist" but have now come to realize that isn't nearly enough or even completely true and I have a lot of work to do! At my library this book was so in demand that I could only check it out for one week instead of two. I'm glad so many people are with me in educating themselves on how we can dismantle systematic racism.

Ijeoma Oluo covers: racism, privilege, intersectionality, police brutality, affirmative action, and so much more. These are topics that we NEED to be having conversations about. She gives you the information needed to understand the topics and guidance on how to talk about them. She goes beyond that to challenge us to not just talk, but act. The last chapter is full of actions we can take to dismantle racial oppression. Seriously, read it!

ChasingOm I bought this today to do my part for #blackoutbestsellerlist. As if I needed an excuse to buy more books! 5y

Curious | Rachel Grace Alexander
post image

So I have a question... just because I'm curious. Do you prefer physical books or audiobooks? And why?

I prefer physical books but I've really gotten in to listen to an audiobook while I'm cleaning, working out, doing a puzzle, or driving. Sometimes I'm reading and listening to the same book and sometimes I have two different books going. You?

AllieLovesBooks I prefer physical books because I feel like I don‘t miss anything. However, I love audiobooks for chores like you mentioned. I typically stick to one format when consuming a book! 💙 5y
Jess861 I prefer physical books. As much as I'd like to be able to listen to audio books, I can't seem to pay attention while listening. Even if I'm just cleaning or doing something mundane, I find myself missing half the book. I'm a slow reader and like to make sure I read every word so that might be part of my issue with audio books and my attention. 5y
DGRachel I‘m inclined to say I prefer physical books, but they both have their place. Having many bookshelves filled with physical books makes me happy. I need to be doing something while listening to audio, otherwise I fall asleep, but I love that audio helps me get through more books than I would if I could only read when I wasn‘t working. There are so many stories I want to consume and not nearly enough time. 5y
See All 11 Comments
Slajaunie I love physical books. The look, feel, smell, etc. 5y
Soubhiville I prefer physical books when I can, but I listen to audiobooks while commuting and while working/ doing chores. So my reading ends up being about 50/50. 5y
amywithbooks Physical books. My mind always wanders when I am listening to audio and I don't feel as engaged with the story! 5y
Birdsong28 I prefer physical books as I can read it any time as with audiobooks I tend to listen whilst walking to work or on my own in the house as I am the main reader in the house so I don't think it would be appropriate for me to have my audiobook on. Also I listen to my audiobooks when I do as I know I will get the most out of it. 📚📖 5y
TEArificbooks Physical books. My mind wonders with audiobooks. Especially when it is narrated by one person. I miss so much of the story. I do do audiobooks in the car for the kids though because they like them. 5y
kezzlou85 Physical books. I get too distracted with an audio and tend to miss bits. I used to listen to kids ones in the car when my girls were younger especially the Gruffalo. 5y
Librarybelle I prefer physical books, but I like listening to audiobooks from time to time as I commute to work. Recently, I‘ve listened to so many audiobooks while working from home. 5y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I prefer physical books but I have a place in my life for ebooks and audiobooks. 5y

Enzo is not the same breed as my Gemma, but this was emotional to read as a dog owner! As a human. The beginning of the book gave a big indication as to what was coming but I still cried so much! I loved how smart Enzo was. I think in any other book I've read that was narrated by an animal, the animal is limited or naive. My kids want to watch the movie now. I hope Enzo is as endearing on film. Have you seen it?

With the end of The Huntress comes the end of the #booked2019 Challenge! I did it!! It was my first challenge and it was really challenging!! I read some books I may not have picked up before! I am looking forward to #booked2020 and I think I'm going to try the #readharder challenge as well this year!

So this one was free on kindle and seemed interesting. I thought it'd be good to listen to while cooking and doing dishes and whatnot. And it was, but it left me a little disappointed. I'm not sure why. Each chapter ended in such a way that I HAD to know what was next but then felt like the payoff never really matched the buildup. Oh well. It was a fun distraction during chores!

LoverOfLearning I listened to this on Audible a whole back. I gave it a pan. Not sure why. 5y

I'm not going to lie, I have bit of a celebrity crush on Jake Tapper. Weird, I know... I decided to read this book. I just started it, but I wanted to know if any of you have read it and if so, what are you're thoughts?

marleed I have an autographed copy written to me. My son and Dil got it because he‘s my newsman crush, as well. I liked it. I even learned a few things. I did however read along with the audio because he reads this book! 5y
