We meet Bridget in this book widowed and in her fifties and it wasn't long until I fell into the swing of things and laughed out loud at Bridget and her continuous muddled confusion.

I really liked Roxster as a character. His and Bridget's dialogue was such a hoot, it was so visual. I hope there's more of him going forward even though I fully admit he isn't good for her.

I'm so confused. Is this Bridget Jones's blunder, repeatedly calling Chekhov the author of Hedda Gabler and calling him Norwegian, or is it Helen Fielding's error that no editor picked up? Maybe I'll find out later?

Clare-Dragonfly And “Gabler” is spelled wrong. It‘s so grotesque, it has to be on purpose, right?! 4y

I read the Bridget Jones series and watched the movies, and liked them. This book takes years after The Edge of Reason, and tragedy has struck Bridget. I will say...I didn't enjoy this book like I did the others. The scenes with her kids were really cute and so Bridget 😄 HOWEVER, this wasn't so engrossing that I couldn't put it down.

It felt like catching up with an old friend I hadn't spoken to in a long time....but she still hasn't gotten her sh!t together!! Dang Bridget! You got kids now, and being a single mother you gotta do better. She stressed me out! But it was a good read. Will be picking up the fourth book.

Hello Litsy,

Sunday question! Is there a book or even several books that you usually reread every year?
For me, it‘s the two Bridget Jones books, The Book Thief and a Christmas Story by Charles Dickens.

#littens #litsy #question #reading #books #community #sunday #weekend

ju.ca.no I hardly ever reread actually🤔 6y
tpixie The Little Prince. Otherwise I don‘t reread. (edited) 6y
VioletBramble The books I re-read each year are A Child's Christmas in Wales, Christmas in Noisy Village, and the CD version of Holidays on Ice (revised) performed by David Sedaris, Amy Sedaris, and Ann Magnuson. The first two are childhood favorites that I love to revisit even though I haven't been a Christian for decades. I frequently, but not yearly, re-read the Harry Potter books and Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. 6y

EllieDottie The Christmas Carole is by far my most reread book!! 6y
creativelittleladybug177 The Christmas Carole is so good! I would have to say my most re-read books are the mortal instruments series 6y
Augustus-waters-his-plants I reread Harry Potter and The Goblet Fire and the Savvy series by Ingrid Law. They‘re childhood favourites of mine 6y

merelybookish @readinginthedark It is loosely based on P&P but Bridget is no Lizzie. 😊 Have you read the book? I loved it and then was pleasantly surprised by the movie. But you have to be okay with awkward. Meanwhile I've never seen Fight Club. 😯 7y

Three stars for nostalgia. Poor Bridget is still hilariously hopeless but truth be told it's time for her to grow up. As a reader, I have changed and think it was time for her character to evolve.

One of those sequels that is living on the coat tails of its predecessors.

Even though there were a lot of places where the story dragged, the text/twitter exchanges didn't translate well into the audio version, and the elements of the absurd that Mark Darcy cherished about our Bridget became cliche slapstick in nature, Fielding still manages to deliver a poignant portrait of womanhood and widowhood for women in middle age. I am also v. disturbed that I am closer in age to widow Bridget instead of spinster Bridget.

Sometimes look @ billboards of beautiful models, & the real people underneath, & think it's a bit like if we were on a planet where all the space creatures were short, green & fat. Except a very few of them were tall, thin & yellow. And all the advertising was of the tall, yellow ones, airbrushed to make them even taller & yellower. So all the little green space creatures spent their whole time feeling sad because they weren't tall, thin & yellow.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ At the moment I'm feeling pretty emotional that this is the last book in the series. I will absolutely miss Bridget's humour and disastrous life. That being said, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the other two. I longed for Mark Darcy but did enjoy experiencing B as a mother.

Elisa There were some good bits and Bridget is like an old friend, but I somehow was left with the feeling that I almost wished I hadn't read it 😕 For the movie they are picking a different premise, based on the teaser I saw online. 8y
ej0728 I agree with you. The first was so wonderful and the tale of a flawed woman. This one felt like a cash grab - it was missing the heart Bridget was loved for. 8y
Jellybeanbon @Elisa I also had a peak at the trailer. It looks awful. I really don't want to see it and it looks like a complete different story. I mean Hugh / Daniel isn't even involved. The whole book is about her life with children and in the movie she's only finding out she's pregnant. 8y
Jellybeanbon @ej0728 I think you summed it up perfectly with it was missing the heart of Bridget. She really started to irritate me in the book and it was so predictable that she would end up with Scott. 8y
Elisa Agreed, but I'm still holding on to the hope that the movie will capture Bridget as we know and love her, which in the last book was a total FAIL 😑 8y
