A little late posting, but here are my favorites from 2024.
A little late posting, but here are my favorites from 2024.
This is the story of Martha (Patsy) Jefferson Randolph, Thomas Jeffersons daughter, told from her perspective, based on letters and original sources. It focuses mostly on Patsy's devotion and protection of her father. A very good historical fiction. (see below for the rest)
One more book in for #AwesomeApril thanks for hosting @Andrew65

#BookSpinBingo progress for April - finished the Wayward Pines trilogy for #AwesomeApril - will use these last two days of the readathon to try to finish one more book -
Thanks for hosting @TheAromaofBooks and @Andrew65 -

There should be a trigger warning for characters who lose a parent and have to shove their grief aside to care for the remaining parent. It‘s a very specific trigger, but still powerful.
I believe Patsy's relationship with her father (Thomas Jefferson) is not healthy (even for those times)!! #ThemedThursday thanks for hosting and the tag @dabbe
I plan on finishing the Wayward Pines series for the #AwesomeApril readathon - thanks for hosting @Andrew65

I‘ve had this for entirely too long, and considering it‘s due today and I‘ve already renewed it a million times, it‘s probably time to actually dive in. 🤷🏻♀️😂 #americasfirstdaughter #stephaniedray #laurakamoie
Has anyone read this? Is this worth the read?
#coffeeandbooks #bookclub
Trying to read this today. Half way through & bookclub is Wed. Not that invested. Not sure why, but the characters are just not speaking to me. It is fascinating that the novel is based on surviving letters. Will be interested in what others think at book club. It is a portrait of female subjectivity, slavery at that time but not new to me so I almost feel detached.

This is my book club‘s read for February. I‘d like to pair it with Catherine Kerrison‘s Jeffersons Daughters: Three Sisters, White and Black in a Young America. The authors are new to me.

Historical fiction is my favorite! Since I've been on litsy, I have been trying new genres; like nonfiction. @OriginalCyn620 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Thank you @sblbooks for the fun things you sent for the #staycationintimeswap ! I've never heard of the movie but it looks interesting. Also the cookbook is super neat! I like that it old and has colonial recipes, plus the pictures in it are great! @Chrissyreadit
Seriously??? 3 is my favorite number!!! Had to return the tagged book before I was done. Got it back and up to 98% by the time I got to work. I'll finish it in the morning on my drive home.
Two of these books came with me on this three week trip . . . Thanks @Powells and Boulder Book Store for expanding my haul (and increasing the weight of an already dangerously heavy suitcase). 📚
Fact and fiction crossed a lot of lines in this lengthy novel...but I‘m glad that I didn‘t abandon it!
I discovered that I knew very little about Martha Jefferson Randolph and her very difficult life at the hands of her husband. Having had no expectations for this book I now find that I have to recommend it!
Loved this insight into Thomas Jefferson 's life through his dsughter's eyes. She did more than we will ever know to help start our country.
The author included several facts that made the past realistic vs romantic and made me so glad that women have more rights now.
31 (going on 32) is a good number for this Mama of 2 young kids! I‘m happy with that number, next year my goal will be 40 I think. I had a small slump in summer 😊
Finally picking up my second #makemereadit (or in my case #makemefinishit) for the month. Hope I enjoy it better than the last one!
This was an entertaining historical fiction through the eyes of Thomas Jefferson's daughter. The authors created complex characters through their research and reading of many letters. I highly recommend listening to it.
#sundaysurvey @alisonrose
1) the tagged book at 590 pages, although I listened to it, does that count?
2) Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
3) Louise
4) I love to sing, wish I could do it well
Great questions!
Listening to my favorite bookish #podcast #EclecticReaders while putting together a master calendar for the family.
Patsy Jefferson Randolph is a character I've not thought much about, which makes a novel based on her life interesting. Thinking of historical figures as people w/flaws & drama instead of giant historical figures was fun. But it drags when ideas/events repeat themselves. Honestly, describing some relationships w/slaves as loving or romantic made me uncomfortable enough to take me out of the story several times. Interesting, but I wouldn't revisit.
A new podcast episode is out today! Sadly, In honor of Harry Potter‘s 20th anniversary in the U.S., Jeannette, Susan, and Tara talk about their love of Harry Potter and then discuss this Historical Fiction and whether Jefferson was kinda, you know, a manipulative a-hole. 😆

Behind every great man there is an even greater woman.
Truly made me stop and think. Jefferson through the eyes of his daughter/biggest champion, Patsy. All the accomplishments and flaws of the Jefferson family are laid bare. Convincing look into the contradictory mind of an 18th century woman.
Sally Hemings is interwoven as a graceful mistress (although not sure how one can be a mistress when enslaved.) Most painful aspect to me.
Enlightening.
Finally have a little time to myself during this family road trip through Virginia - perfect setting to read about one of the most famous Virginia families in history.
Going through ups and downs with this book - seeing a lot of negative aspects to Jefferson (battling with the historian in me that is in awe of Jefferson as a revolutionary) about 30% in and story is starting to grab my attention.

Stephanie Dray was inspired by Margaret George's The Memoirs of Cleopatra to write historical fiction.
A powerful read. The kind of read that makes me immediately wish to reread. In fact, I am planning a weekend trip to Monticello.
Up next on the #EclecticReaders podcast! We're super excited about this one. Anybody planning to read along?
I enjoyed this novel... historical fiction that is based on some thorough research into the life of Thomas Jefferson‘s oldest daughter, Patsy. The book takes us through Patsy‘s life before, during, and after the war for American #Independence and the choices she makes for her father and the new nation. I thought the book was maybe a bit too long, but it‘s very well written and in-depth.

#HeyJune I can‘t believe we‘re in the final week!! Which means July 4 is just around the corner🇺🇸 hence, The American #Revolution 🗽I read America‘s First Daughter a few summers ago and it was really informative and well done so I‘m looking forward to reading My Dear Hamilton by the same authors. Using actual letters, diaries and correspondences we get an insider‘s view of America‘s early days from the people who actually lived through it.
1. Purple, it was my sister‘s favorite color. I miss her.
2. I have never binge watched anything.
3. The tagged book.
4. Either mayo or mustard/ketchup. And it must be a cheeseburger.
5. Nothing. My 6-year-old next door neighbor goes to her dad‘s house for the weekend, so I‘ll have no one to play with!
I‘m tagging a few Littens I just started following because of their Friyay posts!

Wow! I had no idea Martha Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson's daughter, was not only a badass in her personal life but also hugely influential in shaping the America I live in today. Add her to my list of "If you could have lunch with one badass woman from history who would it be?" list! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I‘m really enjoying listening to this! Patsy must have been one of the strongest women known. I can‘t imagine living in this time period, it always makes me so grateful for what I have. Although some things I wish were still around.
I loved this book and can't wait for My Dear Hamilton! This was an interesting glimpse into our history from a very refreshing perspective.
This is in my TBR for #pop18 and I just realized it‘s almost 600 pages long. What ?!?! Please someone tell me if it‘s worth it? #America #nuyear
17 books this month all Christmas romances except these four and a bail of Red Rising. These 4 are all picks. The Jenny Han is the only one I didn't do on audio.
Loved everything about this book. It was so interesting. Patsy Jefferson, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson lived a full and fascinating life. Especially found interesting, the parts regarding her relationship with Sally Hemmings and her general view of slavery.
It never ceases to amaze me that so many of our founding fathers were against slavery, yet it continued on for generations. 😡
Well, I don't know what my #lastreadoftheyear will be as I still have a bit before the end of 2017. But America's First Daughter is my current audio book and it is looooooong. It will probably be the last book I finish this year, not including all my Christmas romances.
