Pickpick

Years ago, I listened to a few episodes of this popular podcast, but overall, I just prefer books, so I was excited to listen to their audiobook! It‘s more about the authors than the murdery topics their podcast focuses on, so I must admit that I was a little disappointed based on my expectations… But, it‘s a quick listen, with surprising cameos, plenty of secondhand material from therapists & certainly well-performed.

I have been reading Les Misérables since January. Taking it at a slow pace and enjoying its Reading Companion Podcast by Briana Lewis. Highly recommend to listen to it for a more in depth read. It does help with the infamous digressions ?. #lesmiserables#podcast#victorhugo#bigread#classics#frenchlit#read&listen

Changeling | Matt Wesolowski

The first half of Changeling is definitely spooky – at times, downright scary. It was silly of me to read it in the middle of the night, alone at home. I ended up having to finish it all in one sitting before I could confidently go to bed, otherwise I would‘ve been fretting over it and jumping up at every noise until dawn. I usually like Kasie West's YA fare because she writes characters whose problems feel real/regular to me. There's drama, but it's not over the top. Like most of her books, we have a MC who needs to learn to get out of her comfort zone a little, find some balance in her life, and be willing to wrestle some of her inherent prejudices. There's also some great snark and fun characters. An enjoyable read, even if it didn't really bring anything new ⬇

This volume collects the scripts from season one of the absurdly brilliant Welcome to Night Vale podcast plus behind-the-scenes introductions to each episode. This is my brand of weird and I feel no shame about that. Actually, I feel no shame or really any other emotion…I am suspended in a jar of jelly that isn‘t really jelly, just the consistency of what you know to be jelly. Send help. Or don‘t. It‘s whatever.

ChaoticMissAdventures I used to love this pod! It was so creative. The faceless old woman always gave me the creeps 😂 5mo
AshleyHoss820 @ChaoticMissAdventures I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it until I picked this up! I forgot all about Hiram, the 5-headed dragon. The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home! So skin-tinglingly weird! ☺️ 5mo

This book was just ok, not really a page turner, not really scary, not a series I will be reading. It also wasn't witchy more a murder to be solved. TheAromaofBooks Sometimes it's a relief to not like the first book in a series because you get a small pile of books off the TBR all at once! 😂 6mo

I DNF‘d these authors before so I‘m not shocked I‘m doing it again. I‘ve never listened to the podcast so maybe I‘m missing the connection there, but these books are just so instantly and overly weird that the storyline (if there is one) gets lost completely. Your head is left spinning trying to figure things out and the authors are just throwing random, strange comments at you.

A spooky read fail.

Soscha The show is creatively weird & silly. I‘m way way behind so don‘t listen anymore though. 7mo
TieDyeDude It is absolutely meant for listeners of the podcast, but even so, it\'s not that good. I listened to maybe the first 100 episodes of the podcast, and I read the first two books they did. I did not really enjoy the books at all. 7mo
StellaDz @Soscha and @TieDyeDude I‘m not sure what would‘ve made it better but it felt like, in the beginning, that it could‘ve been a really creepy read. 7mo
TieDyeDude It\'s a fun podcast, done in the style of a community radio station. It is split into 2-3 minute segments like a radio news show. It doesn\'t linger or overexplain because everyone in the community is used to the weirdness, so the listener can just chuckle at how random everything is. The books just tried to move from short form to long without changing their format and bring in lore from past episodes that not everyone remembers. 7mo
