This started strong for me, but then some of the dialog and characterization was bothering me. Also, does he understand how little 7 yr olds are? So sadly DNF‘d. Another book off of my #Roll100 list!
#hailthebail
A soft pick for this #roll100 read (I was really torn between pick & so-so) - I was really into it at first, very reminiscent of NOS4R2 / IT / Stranger Things - but I felt like the author was pushing his agenda a bit too much and also really needed a better edit as there was far too much repetition.
mdssss finalmente um lugar onde eu posso dizer tudo o que eu quero!!! aliás, esse é um livro que eu tô lendo atualmente, em formato ebook :)
1. 1900s I think (not a lot of historical fiction reading happening here)
2. Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young
3. Tagged. It was a very good read!

What‘s that thing called when your TBR pile/stacks/shelves/mountain is already out of control (or under just the right amount of control by which I mean it hasn‘t fallen over & crushed anyone) but you see a bunch of books on sale & simply can‘t resist adding to your already teetering pile of books waiting to be read? Because it me. Picked up all of these on steep discount. The signed copy of the tagged book was a surprise. And the TBR pile grows…
Hi there @mom_of_4 🎃 I loved going through your #trappedinaspookyhouse book list and picking these out for you!
Just finished this chonk. I couldn‘t stop til I got to the end. Some mixed reviews here, but I enjoyed it. Gave me a few weird dreams, which can be fun. Very imaginative story about overcoming demons within. The end left my imagination reeling. Some spots were maybe over the top & some people said it‘s too long, but to me it was worth every word. Hope there‘s a movie someday. Perks ended up as a great film adaptation, this one is so different tho.
For such a long book I found this very atmospheric and it really kept my attention. I liked the classic horror tropes (otherworldly deer that aren‘t deer, the forest at the end of your garden, the dreams) done very well. I will say (I dont think this is a spoiler?) it took some unexpectedly very Christian turns. I guess that‘ll make this look better or worse to different readers but I found it neutral, just surprising
Dnf it. Couldn't do it. I was halfway, and I had enough. Maybe someone else would like it, but it was just not for me.
So, for the most part, I liked this. I did think it should have been shorter, but overall, I have to say it's a pick (it leaned more that way than a “so-so“).

It makes me sad. Sometimes we justify bad behavior with the rationalizing of “it could be worse” or “at least he didn‘t …. “.
I am enjoying this one but it‘s been taking me some time… I have been reading it during the football games too (my team is out —- so I‘m not super invested but still want to see the games)
I went to the most amazing place in Liverpool yesterday… it‘s a ‘library‘ but you can take as many books as you like FOR FREE and no obligation to return 🤩 I donated about 20 books and picked up 12… will definitely be returning here!

What are you reading? 😊
1st of 5 new books achieved
One of my first horror-driven books bought. Stephen Chbosky also having written The Perks of Being a Wallflower honestly excites me even more for this new addition!
Well, hmm. This one was really good for the 1st half. It told a story about a boy named Christopher & the strange fixation he develops on The Mission Street Woods. I was hooked as the past & present events began to merge & Christopher's experiences became more alarming. I loved the evolution of the supporting characters. The 2nd half of the book took a religious turn & I lost interest. But I had read too far to DNF. ⭐⭐⭐Maybe it's too smart for me?
I devoured this 700 page tome last spooky season and LOVED it! Hope some Littens are reading it this year. 😀 #scarathlondailyprompts #black #teamslaughter
Finally finished my May #bookspin and I really enjoyed it! My reading has really taken a hit this year; I need to get back into a rhythm with it again which is why this chunkster took me even longer than normal.
That said it was creative and it had some interesting twists. I loved a lot of the characters and all the nods to the Pittsburgh area was fun being that‘s my hometown
@TheAromaofBooks
“The shadows were not terrifying. They were the proof that light exists.”
“She wanted her son to be smart enough to get out of this nightmare, but not smart enough to know that he was actually inside one.”
“What are the two types of people who can see things that aren‘t there, Kate? Visionaries and psychopaths.”
“If you are a good parent, you watch your children, Make sure they‘re safe. If you fail, don‘t blame some outside force. You look in the mirror and take responsibility. That‘s the problem with the world. Nobody takes responsibility. Someday, the police will catch the psycho who did this. And when they do, the monster will cry and say he was ‘abused by his parents‘. That‘s bullshit. There IS such a thing as insane. There IS such a thing as evil.”
This is the first book I‘ve read that genuinely scared me enough I had to stop reading after EVERY PAGE. I was able to pick out a few quotes:
“We can swallow our fear or let our fear swallow us.”
“Adults dont remember how powerful they are because somewhere along the line, they were shamed for their imagination.”
“Everyone gets an ending. Whether or not it‘s happy is up to them.”
“Heaven and Hell are not destinations. They are decisions.”
They best word I can think of to describe this book is…”alright”. I was a little worried going in after reading some of the reviews, but the religious aspect wasn‘t as overwhelming as I expected. Could it be 300 pages shorter? For sure. Every time you think it‘s wrapping up…something else happens. Gets kind of repetitive, but overall a decent read.
I really loved the first 200 pages or so. Crisply written, eerie, engaging. But then it just kept…going. And when the final act arrived, I lost all immersion (especially when some of the twists were revealed). It‘s well-written, but didn‘t end up working for me in the end.
A birthday gift that sounds like a great read —moved to top of tbr pile. #thriller #book #horrorbook
next in line
Picture really doesn‘t do justice to the detailed super cool alteration @Littlewolf1 did on my #AlteredNightmareSwap cover. I love the themed mug to go with Frankissstein and how it even comes with its own little spoon! Thank you for another thoughtful swap box! I was lucky to get matched with you twice in one year! #ANS
A perfect spooky read for October, I devoured these 700 pages in two days. With hints of Stephen King and Stranger Things, the creep factor is high and left me shaken over and over again. As a lapsed Catholic, the small town of Mill Grove was achingly familiar to my own hometown; weekly CCD and the questions of morality and redemption could have come from my own childhood. Even when the book veers into intense religious allegory, I was hooked. 5⭐️
did it need to be 700 pages? no. was it lowkey christian propaganda? yes. idk you could read much better horror books. also it didn‘t even take me that long to read it hell yeah
4/5🌟

My current read! I‘m halfway through and already hooked! Spooky vibes for halloween :)
For the first time in ages, I finished 2 books in a single week, and this weighty tome was over 700 pages, so that was no small feat. I really wanted to like this book. I was expecting a horror novel that spoke to the human experience, and was stoked when I noticed metaphor within the story, thinking it would cover spiritual issues as a whole. Sadly, it turned into a thinly veiled Christian-only allegory, which really isn't my thing.
I started this yesterday. To be honest it is a bit slow. Hoping I can continue. Does it get better?
What approach do you use when tackling a chonky book? I want to read these so bad but the idea of holding a book with that many pages for days makes me feel some type of way...
Any tips? Tricks? Hacks? How do you mentally prep to tackle a chonkster?
What. A. Trash. Heap. Sorry but this was a mess. It started out good but quickly tanked in the middle. I was 40% done thinking “how have I got this much left?” I was disgusted by calling the ONE Native American woman a Sq*** to only referring to her as “the Hot Indian” This was some Christian novel disguised as horror. If you aren‘t into women being treated like crap and written as “saints or whores” and preached at, then skip this one. Long asf 2
“Don‘t leave the street. They can‘t get you if you don‘t leave the street.” #firstlinefridays
I love my first books from my first book box. So thrilled to get Imaginary Friend and I look forward to reading Last Looks!
I know this has mixed reviews but I liked it. It's long but in a good way. The characters are young but that adds to how unsettling it is. It's creepy as hell and well worth the read. I listened along and the audiobook is fantastically narrated.
There was some repetition that got on my nerves and the ending was....well he went there and it's not my favourite twist but I still loved it.
#bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
I finished this last night. My only thoughts being “what the hell did I just read?” I‘m not sure whether that‘s good or bad. It kept me going though. Hard to walk away from. Intriguing concept. Very Stephen King. Meh.
I loved this book because it was so SK like!
My usual cosy spot on the couch, with plenty of tea.
Had a proud Mum week (sharing pics they approved!) - my. son graduated with his masters degree in Politics. My daughter went to her school‘s awards evening for her last year and got an attainment award and the special award for services to the school for the 7 years she was there 😁 these moments keep you going.
#friyayintro 👇🏻
I wanted to love it but it just isn‘t my genre,as much as I love Chbosky‘s writing, which is remarkable. If horror is your thing, definitely read this.
I finished these two days ago and have just marinating in its greatness.
This is completely different from Chobsky‘s debut novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower but still has the great writing and great character. I could not put this behemoth of a book down. I was so hooked with the storyline and the characters along with Chobsky‘s writing style. A lot of characters but you can easily decider who is who.
Awesome creepy read!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is so crazy! I‘ve been reading all morning because I can‘t put it down. 😱😱😱
Had to take a quick break to share how crazy this book is but then realized I can‘t tell you without any spoilers.
Anyone else reading this?
39% in and I finally decided to bail after reading a ton of reviews that said it only gets worse. The beginning was gripping in a Stranger Things meets Stephen King sort of way, but then it just drags on. It also has an unrealistically mature main character who is also a seven year old boy. Yes, I realize the book itself is unrealistic in many ways, but this part in particular didn‘t need to be so unbelievable.
I loved The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but this one looks completely different.
