“Every night he stood under the stars, hoping for his turn to be picked by a child and given a special name. He waited for many nights.“
This book is a great story to read to young children. This is because it teaches children how to make friends by having courage and talking to other peers. It also distinguishes between the real and imaginary world. Allowing children to see that it is okay to have imaginary friends, but knowing the difference between the two.
The Adventures of Beekle, 2014. This is a Caldecott Medal Winning Book. In this book, Beekle is an imaginary friend who has to wait until it is his turn to be imagined by a human. Once he is not imagined he decides to take an adventure to the real world. After some time he meets Alice at the park and she names him Beekle. They spend a lot of time together doing fun things; including, coloring, sharing snacks, and more.
“The world began to feel a little less strange,” this quote is so cute because it shows that just having someone to explore with can make everything calm down.
This is my favorite part of the book because it shows how in the adult world, everything loses color and nobody really stops to enjoy life. It reminds me of the movie Soul.
