I love myth retellings & this one was enjoyable. It follows Artemis- now calling herself Selene & living in NYC. She & the other gods have lost much power as no one worships them any more but the Virgin Goddess still takes it upon herself to protect innocent women from abusive men. Then she begins to regain strength as someone starts killing women. A cult has revived the old rituals. Will she become Artemis again or will she stop the cult?
A couple observations:
This is the second book in a row that has sucked me in such that I don't want to stop reading.I feel like my joy is back! 🤗
This is the second book in a row with an MC called Selene/ Selina. 😁🌙
1. Egyptian, definitely!
2. Greece. Greek mythology all the way since always.
3. Tagged The Immortals (again) but seriously fun to see how the gods could be represented in a modern setting. Neil Gaiman‘s American Gods is an unbelievably close second, followed by Madeline Miller‘s Circe. So many great options!
#sundayfunday
Can‘t believe I kept skipping over this one (mainly because of the cover). Super entertaining! And uhhhh I‘ve now started my 7th new series in 2020. Will I ever catch up?
#bookpeopleproblems #serialaddict #olympusboundtrilogy “We spend most of our time trying to convince our students that the ancient world is still relevant, but they‘re all too busy trying to get jobs as hedge fund managers to really believe us.”
Well, it‘s been a hell of a week. Was supposed to fly out Monday, but it didn‘t happen (long story & lots of stress). But I left Thursday and arrived last evening (Friday).
This week I‘ve listened to some of my favorite audiobooks and finished the tagged. I really enjoyed the tagged. The concept that the Greek gods are still around, but not as powerful. The story focuses on Artemis. I will definitely read the next book. 👍🏻
It‘s packing and moving day. I‘ve read a few pages of the tagged here and there in between the chaos and so far, I‘m really enjoying it. I like the concept. Plus, it fits intelligent character prompt for #readyoursign 👍🏻
I fly out Monday. And then I should have a new address by Tuesday & it‘ll be an APO address. 👍🏻👍🏻
I sing of Artemis.
While flawed in places, this blend of murder mystery and Greek mythology finding its place in the modern world was an intriguing read. I learned a lot about the Greek gods, particularly Artemis, and am excited to further my knowledge of this fascinating figure.
Ella pays homage to the Lady of Hounds.
This last week and a half has been hell on wheels. Between friendships I thought I had exploding in my face. Deactivating fb, going through a massive depression episode. I have adopted the what doesn't kill you makes you stronger mind set as best I can. I mostly just look at this bean and remember she is always happy to see me. Her love is unconditional. With her, a cloudy day and a good book. I can be okay for a little bit in this chaotic world💜
I read this one shortly after it came out and I‘ve not returned to the series but it‘s an example of what I like when it comes to the #mythsandlegendsswap. I hope to make it back to the second and third book! I love The Wicked + The Divine and Seanan McGuire‘s Ghost Road stories. I grew up reading Greek/Roman mythology and I know there are a lot of other gods so I‘m open to just about anything!
#bookmail package from Book Depository... love BD!! It‘s the best place to get paperbacks on the (semi-) cheap!!
Steampuck didn't stick. So... I'm trying Greek Mythology/Urban Fantasy tonight. Canucks in Pittsburgh. So a light 🏒 night. ⭐️ are in NJ too. #readingandwatchinghockey
#LitsyPSA: I enjoyed this one quite a bit, even though I‘ve not yet finished the series (I think it‘s 3 books). It‘s on sale so why not give it a try?!
Curious about the next book in this series. On hold at the library. Waiting can be hard.... #patience
Liked Selene, and enjoyed the story of Greek gods in modern day New York. However, Selene‘s occasional lack of social skills was curious. Growling at people is rarely effective.
A contemporary, and while fairly graphic much more fuzzy, look at Greek Gods in contemporary times. In a time when they have become much weaker and very nearly mortal. Too graphic for the young lady I thought would enjoy it. A fun romp with some of mythologies naughtiest.
Thank you @Yeah_I_Read for hosting this fun #GreekGeekGiveaway — check out her page for details!
🤞🏻🇬🇷
So when I hallucinate what Theo Schultz looks like I picture him looking very similar to Milo Thatch from the movie Atlantis...just maybe a bit taller. Anyone else? Or is that just me? What/who do you hallucinate?
(Posting same thing on all 3 books in the series cause I HAVE to ask/get this off my chest. Haha)
Percy Jackson meets Cormoran Strike in this smart, intriguing story. Selene was fantastic — fierce, smart, resolute. Sweet, funny Theo was a good compliment to her. The plot was well constructed, but also easily predicted — I figured out the Big Twist about a third of the way into the book, & felt mildly annoyed waiting for everyone else to catch up. Also, the Greek went over my head a bit. Still, I‘m excited to see where it goes next! ★★★☆☆.
#currentlyreading | PJO meets Cormoran Strike? HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS TILL NOW?!
Look what‘s on sale as an ebook! I read and enjoyed this one. I have the second one but I saved it for a bit, a third is planned.
I enjoyed this book SO much! It was just what I needed right now. It was fast paced and engaging. Best of all, I thought I had it figured out, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out I was wrong. Already requested the next one from the library!
Somehow I hurt my hip yesterday, and I've had a visit from the #LitsyMigraineClub. Luckily, this came in from the library yesterday, so I have the #PerfectExcuse to just lie on the couch and read today! Not too bad for a Friday!
1) Playing in the leaves!
2) The Immortals just came in at the library, so that will be next.
3) Dark, but truthfully any chocolate will do.
4) Allergic to cats and chamomile
5) Little Man is wearing a yellow t-shirt today

@MinDea
I read this in one (extremely long) sitting but really enjoyed it. The history is solid, the characters well made and believable, which is saying something for fading deities thousands of years old in modern New York, and the plot is fast paced. It's an easy, enjoyable read especially if you're nurturing an inner ancient historian.
Well, this was enjoyable! Greek gods in modern Manhattan + serial killing cult. If you like those things, you will love this. I am not usually into killing cults, but LOVE complex Selene, aka Artemis, as a PI working with classicist prof Theo to solve this horror show. The deep mythology woven in is amazing, the gods' modern struggles fascinating, the 2 main characters delightful. More please! Must get book 2 ASAP-ish.

Just showing off my new booksleeve - and I apparently completely copy-catted @BookishMarginalia 🙀 She's clearly got my good taste 😆
For the record this sleeve is a good size and has lovely silky lining inside. So my book is nice & comfy & protected after some vigorous reading 📚
I wasn't feeling my last book but I picked this up and am deeply into it within a few pages: kick-ass Greek goddess crime fighting in modern Manhattan?
Yes, please!
Then, a surprise note fell out that an old friend snuck into it while it was on the bookstore hold shelf for me. JUST what I needed after a less-than-fantastic week 😊
This one I couldn't put down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OMG! How awesome!!
Thank you @Indexasaurus !💜💖❤️🌟!!
The goodies are spot-on; it's like you peeked into my brain👀💌
Are the beads from Gasparilla?
Did you make the HP bookmark? It's a work of art🎨

I love the books you chose! I'm going to make some Cajun coffee and get started ❤️
Thank you!!
#SplashIntoSummerReads #day7 #NewAuthor This was an @Liberty recommendation a few months ago, so of course I bought it. So glad I did because it's a fantastic story, the first in a trilogy. I'm currently reading Bk2, Winter Of The Gods. Selene DeSilva is a PI in Manhattan, a defender of women, but in a previous life she was Artemis, Moon Goddess. When she finds a woman's body with ritualistic markings, she realises a god cult is killing women.
I've always been a sucker for any story with Greek gods in the modern world. This one started slow, picked up steam in the middle, then had a lackluster ending. I don't think I'll bother with the sequel.
Ancient Greek goddess Artemis turned modern day P.I. Selene DiSilva is trying to hold on to her dwindling powers. She gets involved in a case where the woman is murdered using Greek ritual. Other Greek gods in their modern incarnations show up to help or hinder but overall an enjoyable read and a good mystery.
My April stats were not quite as good as usual. I had one of those indecisive slumps where every book you pick up, no matter how great it is, after a few pages you just lose interest and drift to another book where the same thing happens. Hopefully this month will be better, there's a lot, and I mean A LOT, of great books being released in the next 6-8 weeks. Fun times!🙌🎉❤️🎉🙌
#AprilBookShowers #day30 #BestOfApril These are my four best of April reads. I managed 18 books this month, even with my mini slump so Yay me! Even though it's almost 10 less than I usually do. Security was a thrilling read, The Immortals is one of the best Mythological realism books I've read (if that's even a genre!) The Mermaids Daughter was a brilliant fairytale retelling & Plaid And Plagiarism was just fun from start to finish. Here's to May!
What a fantastic book! After a night spent in the ED, this book has definitely taken me away from reality, thank god!Set in Manhattan,Selene DiSilva, formerly Artemis Moon Goddess, now spends her nights patrolling the city, protecting innocent women. Then she stumbles upon the body of a woman, killed wearing a chiton with a laurel wreath on her head. Brilliantly written, it's part crime book, part magical realism & all awesome. Lucky there's a 2nd book.
Three guesses to where I am at 2am #firstguessdoesntcount #hourthreeofwaitingalmostdone
#AprilBookShowers #day17 #OnTheNightstand Not a very good picture, but these are the books currently on my bedside table. The Penguin Superproof has the first chapters in the new releases for 2017,Her Royal Spyness I'm sporadically reading,The Immortals is my current read & Phoebe and Her Unicorn is my palate cleanser between books.Plus I have Bk16 of the Daisy Dalrymple series, The Bloody Tower on my ereader & Murder On The Orient Express on audio.
This was so good I stayed up late so I could finish it! It was like an adult Percy Jackson book with likeable characters! I was also surprised by the ending which I didn't think I would be. I've already ordered the next one in the series (yay for once it's already out!)
This book is so good! This is the kind of murder mystery I can really get into, the kind that has Greek Gods involved! If only my reading partner wasn't being so very needy... #dogsoflitsy
Couple of chapters in and I'm hooked. This is a very interesting book so far, very unique. After the Diaspora, the goddess Artemis has ended up in Manhattan, making a living as a PI specialising in protecting vulnerable women. When she finds the body of a young classics professor on the banks of the Hudson, dressed as a virgin sacrifice, she feels compelled to investigate.
It's 4.45am here in Sydney & I can't sleep because of pain.Finished my last book but trying to choose another has gotten ridiculous,my TBR is completely out of control,10 shelves full plus another stack in front of five of those shelves. All of them have fantastic reviews, it's getting to the point I'll make a poster with every book on it, put it on the wall & throw darts to choose what's next. Hoping this book draws me in. My I book for #LitsyAtoZ
Ever since I was a little girl and my mom told me that my middle name Artemisa was the name of a Greek goddess I started reading every book I could find about it. So I recently got this e-book because it's a modern retelling of Greek #mythology and the main character is Artemis ☺️. #aprilbookshowers
