Ok, so it's a bit of a stretch, but... this is one of my favorite books. An ode to the mix tape, Rob Sheffield's first wife, and the music and #bands they loved.

A fantastic book with relatable essays about mourning and endless nostalgia about songs of the 80‘s and 90‘s. Today‘s playlists don‘t hit the same as a good old mixed tape!
#12BooksOf2022 Day 2- February
This was a bittersweet memoir by Rob Sheffield about his first wife Renee, but it's also a beautiful ode to the mix tape, and a nod to my generation. Nostalgic.
@Andrew65
Wow. Not often a book can make you both laugh and cry. What a unique way to write a memoir. Each chapter begins with a different mix tape from a time in the author‘s life. The themes in the songs match the themes of the narrative. If you love music as much as I do, this book is a must. It‘s about love and loss and the beauty of life and music and feeling alive. Music really makes us feel our emotions, even one‘s we didn‘t know we might be feeling.

I'm so glad this was my #DoubleSpin pick for this month!

Sunday morning #coffeeandabook. I can't put this one down- I'm enjoying it so much! #DoubleSpin
Oh, how I miss a good mix tape! Somewhere squirreled away at my mom's house is a box full of my old mix tapes from the 80s and 90s. We had mix tapes for every occasion!
I fell in love with Sheffield‘s love story so hard that I started annotating it with little notes that reminded me of my fiancé and our relationship. I slowed down so I could spend more time with Renae and him. I cried, then I laughed, then I cried some more. It‘s a remarkable memoir and a tribute to his 1990s partner.

1️⃣ I‘ve stopped & started this one over the years. It‘s so good & emotional.
2️⃣ Historical Fiction: Ken Follett is THE master!
3️⃣ Chuck Klostermann

-Tiny Beautiful Things went to a friend who did a Big, Hard Life Thing and maybe it's cliche, but it felt right.
-I've given Old Possum's book at a few baby showers. It's as silly as the rhymes of Dr. Seuss with the bonus of Edward Gorey's impeccable, imaginative artwork.
-Love is a Mix Tape went to a few soul mates who have big, cheesy hearts and a particular way of loving music.

I had too much fun taking a trip back through my favorites of the last decade: I decided to make a list of 100 songs by 100 of my favorite artists of the last decade. Probably my favorite decade for music since I was actually paying more attention to music than any other time (even if I started slacking at the tail end). https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2la13tx17Je54dWcGa8AuI?si=YC4qSY-0TIG_nE01keUb...
This book is great...a little sad but it mentions the Replacements (the greatest band that never was) so it gets 5 stars

It seems like this memoir must have been a good example of modern love in the author's exploration of how love and music in the 90's figured into events in his life. But now that there are probably a decent amount of people who don't know what a 'mixtape' is, maybe not so much any more? 😋🎶👴🎵
@rohit-sawant @Cinfhen
It‘s been a busy day, and I missed Daria‘s posting the #KindLitsy list this morning! I‘m very excited to start shopping.
Thank you so much @dariazeoli and @kaye for these lovely books from my TBR! I will be reading them next year for sure. ❤️❤️❤️
Between and pick and a so-so. I liked the sections on grief, particularly that Rob‘s world got smaller and harder as time went on, a nice antithesis to what we‘re normally fed about “time heeling all wounds.” Still, the author‘s second fiddle puppy dog routine made the book drag for me.
I like the chapter styling of this one. A memoir told through coming of age mix tapes. The author is a little woe-is-me-hopelessly-awkward-rock-of-ages-fanboy for my liking but it‘s true to himself so I guess it isn‘t his fault his life became a Hollywood trope.
I don‘t know about you guys but I‘m a sucker for nostalgia. Today while going through some stuff at my mom‘s house I found a Pavement cassette tape. That‘s right a TAPE!!! And it‘s Crooked Rain! What a fun little surprise!
Non-book-related selfie of me & my husband on our outing today (because I‘m a person, not just a reader). 🤷♀️ #sorrynotsorry #thisismyface
1. The tagged book was a lot of fun for fans of 80s music.
2. Duran Duran ❤️😀
3. U2 at Madison Square Garden about 3 weeks after 9/11. The place was filled with first responders and the city was still on edge and sad and the band came out to Elevation with the house lights still on and rocked the place for 2 hours. During One they scrolled the names of victims on the walls and ceiling. It was the most moving show I've ever been to. (Cont)
My 1994 Pontiac Bonneville has a tape deck, and I plan on driving with a tape popped in for Renee Sheffield this winter. Rob Sheffield‘s memoir of his late wife, lost after only 5 years of marriage, is of course, a heartbreaker of a book. But Love is a Mix Tape is also full of wisdom (though the author might disagree), kindness, laughs, epic love, and lots of great tunes.
A quick break from climbing on the ladder to take a photo on the ladder of my #greenbooks, including one of my all-time favorite memoirs. Outside decorating about halfway done! #decktheshelves 💚🌲
So I'm having some serious #PackingProblems
I managed to acquire 42 books while I was in the states 🙄🤓😬
Since they all can't make the trip back with me, I'm gifting a small stack to a lucky US Litten( sorry, shipping costs are killing me)
Between now & Monday, August 21 post your favorite summer reads, with hashtag #PackingProblems and tag me. Feel free to repost & share 🎉🎉🎉

I've never read this book by Rolling Stone writer Rob Sheffield but it has been on my tbr for a while now.
Husband: Hey, Babe, look what I got at the library!
Me: *blinks*
Husband: I was inspired by your podcast episode!
Me: *blinks*
Husband: Jenny mentioned it in reference to a book or something and it made me want to watch the movie. *😁*
Me: You know it's about books, right? Did you listen to the whole episode?
Husband: Not the WHOLE thing... ...but I'm getting there! You did great! Anyway, I'm excited about this movie! *😁*
Me: *sigh*
If you love the book/movie High Fidelity even *half* as much as I do, you will probably also love this book. Music...love... loss... All with a soundtrack many of us will recognize. @KarenUK
I've been saving this one for a raining day, a winter solstice santa gift from @KarenUK ... Okay it isn't raining but the day seemed right. I looked to see if anyone had made the mix tapes playlist in Spotify and lookit!
"I didn't know what to do without Renée. I didn't know what I was. I didn't have a noun."
This is a heartbreaking story doused with a lot of love and happy times. Some parts were a bit cheesy, but the mix tape chapter headers were a fun touch. I appreciate Sheffield sharing this difficult part of his life and how he coped.
Thank you, Rob Sheffield, for reminding me of my intense love for Veruca Salt when I was in high school. 🤘🏻
I just started this, so I don't know yet if it's awesome, but in general, audiobooks are. I just started using them at the beginning of the year, and really like them! #awesomeaudiobooks
I need more reading music! Anyone have a playlist (Spotify, iTunes, etc.) to share, or particular artists/albums/songs to recommend? I‘m mostly looking for instrumental/lyrics-less music (as that usually suits me best while reading), but I‘m open to anything that you feel enhances your 📚time!
I saw this on Facebook and laughed. For all the convenience of iTunes, memories of performing surgery on a mix tape can't be replaced. I guess I'm glad to have lived in both realities.
I listened to this all in one day. I couldn't stop. Was so good. And of course all the song references was perfection. I still own about a dozen cassette tapes & half are mix tapes but no way to listen to them. Feeling nostalgic💜
Look what book is featured on my book a day calendar, @Blair_Reads !!! It certainly gets my wholehearted recommendation.
He wouldn't let me take a new pic for this challenge, but this lovely goofball I like to call my husband is a #readerilove. One of the first things we bonded over was a love of reading. He made me a bet he knew he would lose and his "punishment" was having to read any book I wanted. I picked Love Is A Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield. Six+ years later and we're still sharing out favorite books with each other. #17booklove
Woohoo thank you @KarenUK for my #cupidgoespostal goodies. I do not have this book and I am so excited about the sonnets!! After opening British themed gifts I had to make some tea. @BookishMarginalia
This is somewhat a hard book to read. It deals with grief, how you move on after the person you love has died without warning.
It's a male point of view. A different approach on how one's deals with its grief. All methods of grieving are valid in my book. Rob Sheffield wrote an emotional love letter to his wife Renée in the form of music. He is a man of the 90s so mix tapes of music were the way Renée and him spoke to and loved each other.
The last books I stacked: I have wanted to read Love is a Mix Tape for a while, but was just reminded of it! Top 3 here thanks to @Blair_Reads , @BookishMarginalia , and @That-Bookish-Hiker ! #blameitonlitsy #seasonsreadings2016
The real question is, when will I transfer the books I've stacked to my GoodReads tbr list so they are all in one place? #lastbookistacked Thanks @Blair_Reads for the review of the one on top!
#day28 #seasonsreadings2016 #lastbookyoustacked ..... thanks @Blair_Reads for sharing this recommendation... Looks like just my kind of thing... who doesn't love a mix tape?! 💕
Love love love this book 💜💜💜 Some littens asked for a playlist when I was done...I finished the book, but every chapter has a list like this, and it's full of other references. My playlist isn't complete and it's already over 8 hours long 😯🤗 I don't think i could fit the whole list in one post. But I do suggest you check this book out! Love is many things, but I have to agree with the title 😍
