It only took me 16 years to get around to reading this!
The premise is a bit silly, but as usual, King creates a compelling story with fully fleshed out characters.

After a terrible construction site accident severs Edgar Freemantle‘s right arm, scrambles his mind, and implodes his marriage, he faces the ordeal of rehabilitation, all alone and full of rage. Renting a house on Duma Key—a stunningly beautiful and eerily undeveloped splinter off the Florida coast—Edgar slowly emerges from his prison of pain to bond with Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick, elderly woman whose roots are tangled deep in this place.

#BookRecommendation This one is good, slow, character driven as most of Mr. Kings novels. It has a disguise character.

Overall, I‘m considering this “ok”. Some parts I liked more than others, but art is not my thing, including reading about it. There were shorter chapters in italics to tell us those chapters are from another perspective, but large sections in italics often lose my interest, as did these chapters, unfortunately.
#StorySettings #Seaside A lot of readers call this one an unrated Stephen King title, I have no opinion as it is another one on #TBRMoutain 😂Sheesh, I have so much reading to do!
Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting a lot out of this book, but it absolutely blew me out of the water with its inventive plot, likable protagonist and side characters, and unique concepts throughout. Despite my strong desire to tear through this one and discover what would happen, I forced myself to really savor Duma Key, and was ultimately very satisfied with the time I spent there. 5/5
Absolutely loved!!! Juju had an appointment 2hrs away so I listened to and from the appointment and was able to finish it. Using @dabbe wonderful #ReadAThon list I racked up some points.

One of King‘s most underrated books and one of my favorites. The final 200 pages are some of the emotionally resonant and horrifying he‘s ever written.
The struggle within us is exposed by first-person narrator Edgar Freemantle‘s own recollections and his assessment of other characters who help tell this ghost story. Frankly, those early tales were far scarier than the climax, which read like a Hollywood summer blockbuster finale. While I may not have loved King‘s ending, the path he weaved me through the Florida Keys, the power of memories and surrealistic art will haunt me for a while.
I‘m not sure why I waited so long to read this. It was so good! I‘m a sucker for haunted dolls. #BacklistReadathon
I‘m reading some Stephen King next week for the #BackListReadathon
It‘s hard to believe he still has books I haven‘t read, but Duma Key is new to me. Finder‘s Keepers would be a re-read.
🎧 📚 An underrated Stephen King book. I‘ve never thought of reading this one.
A slow burn.

Welcome to the #LosersClub open discussion for #Dumakey
Please be mindful of spoilers. We have new readers to King who haven‘t read all of his books. When referencing his other work, please keep this in mind for our new-to-King friends. Don‘t forget to tag each other in the comments so your friends can see your reply. Have fun!

Finished a whole day early for #losersclub can‘t wait to discuss!
What an adventure!
It‘s a long one, I haven‘t read TOO much Stephen King but in similarities to the others I have read: I found the pacing to be impeccable. The repeated phrasing he uses amped up the tension phenomenally. Creepy twins.
This one also has art, a ghost ship, premonitions, creepy dolls, trauma..
The beginning was uncomfortable, glad I persevered.
This week has been a dousey. Spent a night in the Ed with my brother then to find out he might have cancer to the next day saying it‘s not it might be a severe infection. So here‘s to hoping this next week is better. What‘s an author you collect? I collect Stephen king. I‘m slowly making my way through his books. So far the stand and cell are my favorites.
I don‘t know if any of the Wrestling fans are doing the #LosersClub reading this month, but I picture Reba as Alexa Bliss‘s doll (but red) for some reason 🤣
Wow! For those in the #losersclub reading Duma Key, the story of Dave Davis is true! 😳😳 #littlebitoftrivia
When I‘m not reading (or listening to) Stephen King, I forget how freaking much I love Stephen King… but it all comes back so fast.
My Duma Key hardcover has been on the shelf long enough for several people to borrow/read it (and to lose its dust jacket) but I listened instead.🤷🏻♀️
I loved the weirdness, creeping dread in paradise, difficult relationships honestly dealt with, and amazing characters. Plus art and a ghost ship!

@BarkingMadRun Thanks for letting me hop into #LosersClub! I copied your photo with the Funko pop, even though I‘m pretty sure Pennywise isn‘t in this one 😅
Looking forward to starting this today!
My #dumakey cover for #losersclub
About 90 pages in and I‘m enjoying it so far
Ok #losersclub, I‘m starting #DumaKey today and I‘ll be reading a chapter a day! Be sure to tag me in your posts so I can see which cover you have! There a couple different covers. #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion #ghosthostpost
#awesomeaugustreadathon progress post…. I never listed my goals, I was at a Book Lover‘s Con when this started! My goal was to finish a few of the books I‘ve been reading, and I just checked back and I‘ve finished five! Granted, I started a few of them at the beginning of the month, but two were started and finished during the time period! @Andrew65
Just a reminder that August‘s #LosersClub read is #DumaKey! Put your library holds in now, search your shelves, or buy a new copy, and check back on or about August 19th when we begin reading this one. Discussion will be in September. #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion #ghosthostpost
Hey #LosersClub I thought I would give you a schedule for the rest of 2022, for planning purposes! I‘m so bummed that 11/22/63 didn‘t fall in November!
Going forward, are they are changes you‘d like to see? Should we read along together, or continue at our own pace? Should we read throughout the month or keep it on the 19th? Let me know!
Weekends are for Stephen King!!
Audiobook pick:
This has a slow build to a great ending. Definite Lovecraftian vibes throughout. Kind of a bizarre story line overall. (no surprise with this author)
Jerome Wireman may be one of my favorite characters in a novel.
The narrator was really good too. I will be hunting for more under his name.
My first Stephen King novel.
A very enjoyable but subtle beginning and rollercoaster like ending.
The book is very atmospheric with some very good characters. Which had their own set of stories to tell.
I particularly enjoyed reading wireman character.
Friendship is a big theme of this novel .💛
Atmospheric and unlike others I have read by King.
Enjoyable but subtle, quite a subtle beginning and middle and a rollercoaster of an end.
Each character was perfect and had their own stories to tell. I particularly enjoyed Wireman.
🏝
A reread of a King classic. It‘s been years, so it was like reading it for the first time (translation: I had forgotten all of it)! Really enjoyed it, especially the relationship between Edgar and Wireman.
#beach #litsyspringbreak
A lot of this book is at the beach. I‘d never heard of spring break before Friends!
Can honestly say this is my favorite book that I've picked up in my lifetime. Between the connection he builds with the main character and the flow through his mental standpoint it kept me on my toes through the whole thing with so many different wonders I wanted to see the end of
In my opinion, King‘s best work. I‘ve read a lot a King so this is a big statement. Haunting and ethereal. The story of a millionaire whose body is ruined in a life altering accident and his journey back to the land of the living and the ghost he must embrace to get there.

I forgot to mentioned was part of August #ReadwithMrBook prompt-To have ppl leave you alone (when they saw how long book was, they were pity of me) @MrBook and also #ReadingwithMaja @maich prompt- book by your favorite author (well...one of them).
#BookSpinBingo (free) @TheAromaofBooks NEWTs (Aug read on Sept) class transfiguration-prompt-Duro (hardening spell)=hardcover. After a serious work related accident Edgar went to Duma Key Fl. He started to paint and started to experience ESP, experiences connected with Duma Key owners and ghosts. Character driven which I like but some parts were too unnecessarily long. Sad parts😢3.85⭐️Thanks @BookwormAHN book given in swap in 2019
Today‘s challenge for #BoundTogetherJune is #Memories !
One of my favorite book memories is from 2 summers ago. I read this on the beach of the Gulf of Mexico which is where it‘s set. It made it extra scary! Then on our last day we went to a restaurant with this painting so like the cover of the book, which is partially about creepy paintings, and the coincidence pushed the whole thing over the edge.

Today's prompt for a book #aboutanartist made me think of one of my favorite King novels that involves a troubled artist and some very disturbing paintings.
#MagnificentMarch @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
Picked my Halloween read for the year by seeing what was on the library shelf and came up with this. I'm slowly making my way through Stephen King novels which I didn't read as a teen. I was thinking of reading Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes but it wasn't available. I always enjoy reading Stephen King though although I've only read only a few of his novels.
Last summer on a #layover from Arizona to Florida my husband covertly took this picture of me. I had just finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman and was getting ready to start Duma Key, my favorite of the year.
Also his selfies are mirrored so that‘s why the cover is backwards and my tattoo is on the wrong ankle.

Confusing plot, unrealistic character traits, nearly incomprehensible antagonist - wait, who? What? Should have been 500 pages shorter. It just kept going on and on. Absolutely my least fave SK ever. Probably should have never been published. Skip it.
