Have you ever opened a piece of #bookmail and audibly gasp? That happened to me when I received this beauty for review. Only a few chapters in, and I can‘t wait to see if the story itself is as breathtaking as the cover. 🍂💜

"He once told me that stories can make someone immortal as long as someone else is willing to listen." ?
We did it! #PotatoCat and I finished this awesome book, and it only took close to two months for me to actually do it. Don't let my slowness put you off. This book is SO good and I highly recommend it. Fantasy and political drama, a pickpocketing badass heroine, beautiful imagery. I am running out immediately to get the second book. WARNING: There is a slow patch in the middle, but if you power through the last 150 pages are 😱
After a truly awful few weeks, I came home to the best surprise #bookmail. 💪🏻💙
I feel bad at how long it's taking me to get through this one. I genuinely love it, and I wish I was reading it faster. But between family emergencies, work piling up, AND moving across the city, my mental batteries are burnt out. Here's hoping I finish this one this week!
This week I said goodbye to my Papa. A man who instilled a love of books and photography in me from an early age. This is less than a quarter of his Western collection which includes original editions of books from as far back as the 50s. 💜
"[Trouble] keeps looking till it finds you. Might as well find it first."
It's been a long day. I'm ready to get lost in a (new to me) book. Pretty sure ice cream for dinner is frowned on, but that's the perk of being an adult.
Calling all Hamilton fans and history buffs, this beauty is only weeks away from hitting shelves and I'm so excited! I spent the day hanging out with the author at Hamilton and Eliza's home in NYC and we talked about how amazing ELIZA was. Her place in history should not be forgotten.
Been sick, lazy, and generally tired. But then my friend brought this to me and now being sick isn't so bad. 🐙
I'm so excited to finally start this one! Music is a major part of my life and I've been itching for this book since I saw it on Twitter months ago.
I really did try to stick it out, I wanted to love this book. But I'm so bored I can't finish it. The plot line is interesting, the non-binary main character learning to be an assassin is cool, but the writing is just so...so. Part of it is my preference for details, I like an abundance of details. Describe the shape of literally every floorboard for me. The first person narrative here leaves HUGE chunks up to the reader which I didn't like.
"There was no room for gods in a world of monsters and monstrous men..."
"I find myself apologizing for things I shouldn't be apologizing for, things I am not at all sorry for. I find myself apologizing for who I am."
"It was not as easy to believe [these] truths as it was to know them."
I couldn't get into this book, and a bulk of that is my own fault. I didn't realize it was middle grade versus YA. The story is good, and the writing is lovely, but overall I just never clicked with it. The main girl bounced around the place so much she bordered on a Mary Sue, and I felt like things were never fully explained. A pseudo almost ghost story with a touch of magic, it's a fast read with a gorgeous cover.
I'm ready to read undisturbed for a few hours on this flight. I've had a long, but also too short, vacation with my family. And I'm dreaming of the next trip to Disney already (my legs are ready for a break, though!). I didn't get too much reading done, but that's okay. I have a long weekend waiting for me 💜
Finished one (of my two) packed books on the way to the airport. Luckily I had enough time to dash through the bookstore before I get to my gate!
Nothing like waiting until the literal last minute to pack... I'm flying out to Disney World for a week and I am so excited I could cry. Yes, that is a Beast backpack. Yes I will be using it the entire week, including fancy family dinners out.
Laylee had little patience for sadness, and though deep down she felt a great deal of pain, she much preferred to be angry.
My friends are kind of the best and keep bringing me amazing things. Last year I cosplayed as Agent Carter, and now I'm continuously obsessed with badass women who take control of their lives.
It's been a bit of a rough few weeks, but I'm so excited to settle in for the night with a little wine and #MeetTheGirlfriend! I've actually already read this (#BookExpo prep) but now I have a little time on my hands and I'm ready to read it again and pick out the clues I missed the first time. Does anyone else reread thrillers like that? Just me? 😅
"On the night this story begins, both a saint and a scientist were listening to miracles."
The author sent me a "Broody Swag Pack" including some artwork of the various faces Broody McHottiepants can wear. And the author AND Broody signed my book cover. Totally in love. I'm also halfway through the book and it has made me laugh the whole way through.
I bought the comic inspired @owlcrate during their flash sale a while ago and I'm so happy I did. #bookmail is absolutely the only way to make a Monday tolerable 😂
Well this one made me ugly cry. That's really all I have to say. A very well done, beautifully written story all about abusive relationships and coming to terms with uncovering someone's true self.
This book was an unexpected, eye opening, delight! There were plenty of moments that made me laugh, but more often I found myself feeling profoundly touched. Tyler bared a lot of truths, and was open about demons that most people shy away from (eating disorders, depression, abusive relationships). I definitely recommend this one. 5✨
Shout out to @MorganNotMegan for not only grabbing five books at #BookCon / #BookExpo for me, but for also getting me this super cute tote bag!
I'll admit it, I'm behind the times with this one. I used to love Tyler's YouTube channel though, so I'm looking forward to reading this one! Has anyone else read it? What did you think of it?
Decided to skip the last day of #BookCon and instead go see Wonder Woman at the Women's Screening at Alamo Drafthouse in NYC. It was so worth it. I'm going to be seeing it again ASAP. I have never felt such a rush, or like I could fight the world. Seeing the film with some amazing friends was exactly the escape, and empowerment, I need to face this week.
Nothing could top this #BookCon moment. Not pictured here was my reaction to her asking if I'd like to hold the Beast. Or the half second mental calculation wondering if I could outrun her to keep him (really only a split second). Seriously this girl was the absolute SWEETEST, she let my friends drag her through the crowd to me so I could take this photo. Y'all get bookworm friends. They are life changing. 🥀 (Disclosure: I cried after this photo)
My #BookCon haul is a baby one, but all the more special because almost all of these were picked up for me by friends who knew I'd love them. And they know me SO well. I was busy working and couldn't run around the conference until most of the drops were done, but my friends knew exactly what I'd want and every couple of hours I'd hear "Psst, look what I picked up". Which basically made me cry. Bookworms are the best ?
Swiping this great selfie from @MrBook ! It was such a pleasure meeting in person (thanks for letting me fan girl at you). And getting to hang out with litsy users for a few minutes in person reminded me how AMAZING you all are. Love my fellow booknerds. #BookCon is kind of like paradise. #LitsyMeetUp
How amazing is this? A first edition! This faded beauty was in the cabinets at Penguin Random House, and I'm pretty sure the security guard judged me for staring at it like a long lost sibling
Found a stack of books in my apartment lobby, it was like being flashed back to childhood. Who else remembers this series? My favorite was the Titanic book!
4/5 ✨ This is a classic Dessen book. It reminds me a lot of The Truth About Forever, which is one of my absolute favorite novels. It deals with a very heavy subject (overcoming the grief of a school shooting) and Dessen handles the subject matter with an inspiring hand. I loved Ambrose, but the final romantic push did feel a little flat/uneventful. With a dramatic few chapters that felt unneeded. Despite that I highly recommend this one. 💜
I have a lot of books on my way too optimistic TBR weekend pile. I'll probably only finish two of these (because I've already started them).
Being from Texas I'm always super fast to side eye Texas based romances. But this book was so damn cute! And it features one of my favorite tropes ever: fake relationship. This was a really fast read and perfect for sitting outside and getting some much needed vitamin d after this long winter. (Plus how cute is that cover?) 4/5 ✨
This one definitely made me think. I'm giving it a so-so only because it took me so long to get into the story, and by the end of it I couldn't really navigate how I felt. Although I assume that's why many enjoyed the book. It definitely presents a feeling of dread towards growing up, the fear of the unknown and the heartache that comes with leaving childhood behind. 3.5/5✨
I could never imagine running 8 miles every single day like Raven. After reading about his influence in the running community I felt a renewed energy to push myself. I only have a few weeks before my first 10K, I may walk most of it, but I'm going to cross that finish line. [In honor of Mother's Day I logged today with the Charity Miles App to raise money for Every Mother Counts] This is a must read for runners and anyone battling mental illness.
This rating is not the book's fault. It's mine for not looking at what it was about before taking it from my friend. I fell victim to a gorgeous cover. But the relationship is a step-sibling turned guardian turned romance and that's a hard pass for me. Am I the only one that struggles with historical romances that use step-siblings/"cousins"/"uncle" figures as the love interest?
I hope no one needs me tonight. Finally got my hands on a friend's ARC of this book, and now I'm going to stay awake stupidly late so I can read all night.
One of my friends gave me their extra copy, and I am SO excited to read this one. Plus the inside cover is 🔥
Just got some new #bookmail! This isn't my usual read so I'm a little nervous about this particular subject matter, but the cover is gorgeous and I'm excited to give it a shot. Although the idea of kids on an island that disappear once they're too old sounds a little more dystopian (and my tastes) than the cover suggests...
