I love how it has art scattered through the pages. The way that it shows Eliza's art style and monstrous sea is beautiful. And I especially love how the last 2 pages are the final pages for monstrous sea! It was so cool looking at the images at trying to piece together the storyline for Monstrous sea. I just wish Monstrous Sea was an actual webcomic! 😁

I loved everything about this book. It just worked. Everything was written so beautifully. I loved the use of mixed media and the descriptions. Eliza and Wallace are amazing characters that you can‘t help but fall in love with and the story is one that is so satisfying and ends perfectly. I can‘t believe it took me so long to read this and now that I did, I‘m so sad I finished it.

Mommamanzi I loved this one. 2y

I stacked ELIZA AND HER MONSTERS many years ago, found it in a Little Free Library about a month back, and started it late this afternoon. I‘m already a hundred pages deep, so I don‘t think it‘s gonna take me very long.

Today‘s Kashmiri recipe is aal yakhni, or squash in yogurt sauce. (I used some little zucchini.) I‘m pretty sure I burnt the whole spices, but that gave it a nice, smokey flavour so I can‘t be too upset.

Parts of this book were incredibly sweet. It was both enlightening and exasperating to be inside a teenager‘s head.
I really dislike the ‘I haven‘t told the whole truth and now that everyone knows, they‘re mad at me‘ trope. So this was a little irritating for me.
However, I can understand why this book is well loved. The way Eliza‘s creative side was incorporated was really lovely.

This book was really cute. I was a little worried it would have to much of the “I‘m not like other girls” trope, but after the first chapter that mostly recedes. I‘m willing to look past it though because the love interest, Wallace, was amazing and the whole fandom/webcomic aspect was really cool. And I loved that the book integrated art from the comic!

I picked it up this morning, meaning only to read a few chapters, but then night came and the pages ended. The story is great and, in addition, deals with anxiety and depression.

I could have sworn I updated this as a completed book!? Maybe the internet didn't take? Or like it just never posted or something! I am not sure.. but I really enjoyed this one. First off the characters were so “real“ and I just really enjoyed it .. Also it got kinda dark but it was done so well that it felt “good“ to see how things resolved. Anyway definitely a pick!

Zappia got the teen angst and annoying parts really well. I liked that the parents were also flawed and I feel the plot moved forward at a decent pace. I wanted to see what would happen and so the book kept me reading. It ended better than I expected. Although if it had been me I would have given Wallace a piece of my mind.

Also excited to get started on some of these books. My hubby was super excited I got the Kristen Ritter book. Darker than I expected but in a good way; it drew me in & I couldn't put it down. Eliza is the creator of a successful webcomic & has rich online friendships but is a loner IRL: 0 friends at school, a family who don't understand her. To be fair she doesn't understand them either. This is the story of what happens after she makes a friend & the friendship collides with her online world. Also a meta exploration of what a creator owes their fans.⬇️

The monster, though, is smart. It's always watching, and when I am completely sure of myself, it unchains the doubt and lets it run wild. Even when I know it's coming, I can't stop it."

🎧 YA ... a bit of an annoying main character but that‘s typical of this genre. Add to that the fact that there‘s a bit of anxiety/depression going on & it‘s difficult. The interesting thing is that the story drew me in & I listened straight through. Good book about a girl in HS who creates a very popular online comic anonymously (see mention of mental health issue) & is outed accidentally by well meaning clueless parents. Good narrator. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm just not feeling this book. I still love YA, and I'm positive this is a a good book but it is not pulling me in. Love the concept and definitely for fans of online fanfiction and webcomics. If I were a teen now, that would probably be more my jam. My attempt to catch up on my TBR but not force myself to read books I'm just meh about continues!

audraelizabeth Thats something I love about jamie in outlander he always asks before kissing and sex. 5y
ShyBookOwl @audraelizabeth interesting! I haven't read the books but I watched the first few tv episodes and was turned off by the LACK of consent to put it gently. Not between her and Jaime but other scenes. I have since blocked it so I can't recall if there were actual rape scenes or attempted rape scenes.. either way, I remember thinking it was excessive in that department and I wasn't into it. 5y

So here‘s the thing. This book is great at showing not telling you about depression and anxiety. It‘s great at showing struggles with speech and relationships. And for that I loved this book. I loved that it had a good ending. But I don‘t think a young teen should read this. I don‘t think someone who fights with mental illness should read this for it is triggering as all get out. I didn‘t like the cussing and the agenda but overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

TiffanyMichele I do think that this book can help people understand depression so well!! Because it‘s in the first POV we see Eliza‘s parents being “stupid” because that‘s how Eliza sees them. I think maybe reading this WITH your parent/child is a great thing because you both get to see a side of mental illness(I know it can help to see it. You realize it‘s a real thing and you aren‘t crazy) but you also get to censor the book in the places it needs it. 5y

I LOVED THIS BOOK. So much. IRL, Eliza Mirk is a super awkward and shy high school senior. But she also happens to make the most successful web comic—anonymously. Then she meets a boy, and things happen, and teenagers and coming of age and mental health issues and all the things. I very highly recommend this!!
