I love the Veronica Speedwell series! Such fun banter and a serious slow-burn romance!

Delightful book with a unique take on anxiety and personal growth.
This is one of those books on the list of “great novels”. It wasn‘t awesome for me. Most of the characters (besides the Garths) were highly unlikable and I only really was invested to the last 100 pages of this 800 page novel. There were some really good scenes in those last 100 pages, but overall it was a “meh” for me.
Loved this backstory to Jane Eyre‘s Mr. Rochester! I felt quite plausible and stayed true to the characters in the original.
Cute yet unrealistic story of insta-love between two teenagers in NYC on the girls‘ last day in the country before being deported. I liked the way it was set up and loved the little vignettes on minor characters that showed how a small interaction with a person can affect someone else‘s life in an instant.
Over 6,000 passengers were diverted to Newfoundland on 9/11. This is the amazing story of kindness that the people of Gander and the surrounding areas showed the stranded passengers. Such an amazing, feel-good story!
I‘m co-hosting a fun buddy read of A Christmas Carol and some other Dickens novellas this month over on Instagram. If you‘re interested just search for the #DickensDecember hashtag!
Hello Litsy friends! I‘m so sorry I‘ve been neglecting you. Life is crazy and I spend too much time on my phone 😳. I am more active on Bookstagram though - so feel free to connect with me @ pixie.hallows.
This is the second lengthy book I‘ve read this year, and like the first (Les Mis) I LOVED it. I don‘t understand why this book isn‘t much more acclaimed! It has all the great characteristics of a great epic and I can‘t recommend it enough!
Got this gem for $9 at B&N yesterday. It was 12.50 online, so they honored that price and then I had $4 left on a gift card. Score! Reading in October with a #montecristoctober buddy read on Instagram. Join us!
August Wrap-up!
Back to school and busy schedules mean not as much reading time, but still read several good books!
5 ⭐️ - Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
5 ⭐️ - Beastly Bones
4 ⭐️ - To Kill a Kingdom
Currently Reading - The Witches: Salem, 1692. Slogging through slowly. Not sure I will finish any time soon.
Loving this series so far!
Just bought the next two from Book Outlet!
“You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope.”
A Little Mermaid retelling. However, this was so much better than story Disney tells. The heroine is a siren/warrior and not a whiney teenager tired of following the rules. The prince was much more interesting as well. Not mindless.
The voice of the two main characters was pretty similar. Character development could have been better as the 2 voices were too much alike. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to others.
In honor of the first day back to school for my girls... What would Amortentia smell like to you?!
This one took me for a loop. Still thinking about the characters after finishing it several days ago. It does go dark in some places but I enjoyed it immensely overall. Awesome character development & a lovely story of friendship. 🧡
My 14 year old created this lovely print for me for my birthday! Isn‘t it fabulous?!
A delightful gem! Loved this book!
“What a blight that woman is. Do you happen to know why? I lean toward a malignant fairy at her christening.”
Ha! This quote struck me as funny. Enjoying this one. I love epistolary novels.
Still needing some fluffy books after my Les Miserables book coma. Almost didn‘t read this one because of the excessive cursing in the first few pages, but glad I did. It was an enjoyable read. And just look at the inside-cover art!
I‘m pretty sure if I were a student at Hogwarts my favorite class would be Herbology. Just look how cute Harry is with his baby mandrake!!🌿
I loved this quirky retelling of Jane Eyre. A lighthearted and fun read!
So, while I love a good bookstore browse, I have a hard time picking up a book and going with it on a whim. I tend to be more of a research before-hand and then only buy books that I know are on my Goodreads TBR list. However, I came across these books at a lovely bookstore yesterday and all looked intriguing. I haven‘t done my research yet, but wanted to throw this out to the bookish void. What say you, friends? Did I leave any gems on the rack?
Have a happy FOURTH OF JULY to all my book friends! May your lives be full of family, fun, and of course, some good reads! 🇺🇸
All these lovely posts on June wrap-ups and I‘m over here like #STILLREADINGLESMIS because life, and it‘s long, friends!!
Also please be impressed with my orchid which is finally blooming for the first time after three years of faithfully feeding it ice cubes once a week. 💜🌷
This is a book that has been on my TBR for quite some time. Maybe it will be a little less daunting now that I‘ve (almost) made it through Les Miserables. It‘s a mere 300 pages! 😜
Is there a classic you‘ve been putting off reading? What are you waiting for?
A few hours late for my prompt, but oh well.
Last night was a gorgeous night for reading a few chapters outside! Yes, I‘m STILL reading Les Mis. I‘m probably close to 3/4 of the way through. It‘s been a long time since I‘ve taken so long to finish a book other than the Bible, but I‘ve been enjoying it when I‘m able to read! #WineWednesday #ReadingResolutions
1. I sunburned only my knees yesterday. Ouch! ☀️

Can you believe it‘s been 21 years since the first Harry Potter book was published? Coincidentally, I was also married 21 years ago this month, so it‘s easy to remember the Potter-aversary. :-)
You guys, it‘s World Beatles Day! I couldn‘t let it slide by without showing a little Beatles love! ❤️ They‘re my fav.

Can you believe it‘s already June? This year has just flown by! One more week of school for my girls and then we‘re out for a busy summer!

Day 30: Wrap-up
I explained a bit in my story yesterday how crazy our May was. It was my goal to #readlesmis in May but it looks like I‘ll be finishing it in June instead and I‘m okay with that. Even with it being the only thing I‘ve read, I‘m about 1/2 way through. It‘s outside the norm of my typical reading experiences, and I‘m enjoying the journey so much. #Ampersand2018 #ReadingResolutions
I‘m a self-proclaimed introvert but hospitality is something that‘s important to me. I would love to be at a place where we had a different family over for dinner once every week. I believe it‘s how God intended us to live in community.

Whatcha up to today, friends?
Day 23: Blue

It‘s Sherlock Holmes day!
🐝
I love everything Sherlock! I‘ve read the complete works, which is a big chunk of a book (not pictured). I‘ve read lots of Sherlock adaptations and love them all. I watch the movies, the multiple tv series, all of it. ❤️

Last night my husband asked, “Aren‘t you finished with that book yet?” It‘s not often that I spend an entire month reading a book. I told him I was almost to the half-way mark!
As much as I love zipping through books, it‘s actually been nice to have one that can marinate a bit. I am loving getting the “background” stories to so many of the characters that I have known from the musical version only.
Plugging along! #ReadLesMis
Happy Weekend friends!
Hope it‘s filled with lots of love, laughter, life and good books!
