This book is absolutely stunning! Now—I‘m not one to read a lot of fantasy but I had a major Black Panther hangover and with so much attention being paid to this book I had to check it out. I loved the incorporation of Nigerian culture and Yoruba language and deities. The sequels won‘t be released soon enough for me!!! #nowwerise

So the first week of April found me in bed for most of it with an annoying-as-hell upper respiratory infection (this IS spring, right???). Was home from work all week using an inhaler in between coughing fits and just feeling miserable. Am currently in the middle of a few good books, none of which I had the energy to read. Then I got Meaty in the mail-forgot I preordered it, and it is giving me life right now. Irby‘s essays are pure medicine 🤣

My soul is SQUEALING with joy right now!!!! I love the Cormoran Strike series. So happy to see this today!!! 😍😍

It started out good for me but it was stalling towards the middle and I haven‘t the patience to hang in with the story any longer. I‘ve got too many other books I want to get to. It‘s not grabbing me the way I hoped it would which I hate because I was really looking forward to this one 😩. Perhaps it‘s better in its native French. I may pick this one back up in the future.

So.....the Columbus Metropolitan Library has been sending me gentle reminders about these books being overdue and their system mocks me when I try to renew them.....guess these are going back and I‘ve not fully read them 😪

So I listened to part of this on Audible and read the rest when the book finally came in from Amazon. I‘m giving it a so-so because not a whole lot of new stuff here for me as I keep up pretty well on the happenings of this shit show of a ‘presidency‘. I do recommend this to folks who want to be more in-the-know. I found myself just being more pissed than anything 🤬😡😩

I really liked this book but it scared the hell out of me. Given the current political climate, we must do all we can to ensure that similar laws are never ever passed in this country! As for the actual story, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and following their stories. Had to get used to the writing style—it was a bit flowery for me at times— but solid overall. Definitely recommend!

Dammit!!! There are so many good books out right now and I just got Feel Free and I want to start it but am in the middle of so many other good ones!!! ☹️☹️

Spent the morning getting final goodies and packing supplies for my #muglove match. Am waiting for one additional item to arrive-should be early next week—then it will be in the mail!!! 👍🏽

Mom and I finally watched I Am Not Your Negro and it is so obvious how brilliant and passionate and uncompromising this man was. Baldwin‘s words ring so true, even now. Discussing our mutual shame at having never read any of his works, we vowed to change that in 2018. We ordered this critically acclaimed biography of Baldwin along with several of his works.

Was at the library yesterday and picked this book up-timely in that today is the 8th anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Haiti —not to mention the other reason that Haiti is on the minds of many today. Described as a story about love, loss, immigration & PTSD, it details the aftermath of that terrible event on a Haitian-American family. Hope to get to it over the long weekend. 🇭🇹💜💜
