Did you know Esquire Magazine publishes articles about books?! Here are some of their so-far 2020 favorites: https://bit.ly/2SFMeEp ! Have you read any of these and approve?! 🙂 #LNN #LitsyNewsNetwork

rwmg I'm thinking of wishlisting Leave rhe World Behind. I've seen some good reviews, but waiting to see what the word of mouth is like. 4y

rwmg I think I'd rather spend the money on trips to see the original 4y

An interesting news story for #BannedBooksWeek, one of my favorite weeks of the year 😁: https://bit.ly/2GgfP4J ! If someone tries to prevent me from reading something...then I really want to read it. You?! #LNN #LItsyNewsNetwork

Kimberlone Some of my favorite books are the ones that have been the most banned - Fahrenheit 451, To Kill a Mockingbird, Huckleberry Finn, and Harry Potter. 4y
Scochrane26 Every time I look at a banned books list, I realize I‘ve read a lot of them. This week I‘m reading The House of the Spirits. 4y

Not to get controversial, but every aspect of what Sargent says is either outright false, illogical, or wrongly skewed 🤨: https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/libraries/article/815... .

Suet624 Training people to expect free and fast delivery of books. Hmmm. Blasphemy! 5y
rubyslippersreads This makes me disinclined to buy any MacMillan ebooks or “real” books. 😏 5y

wanderinglynn MacMillian should fire him because instead of being an advocate for reading and sharing books with anyone and everyone, he‘s trying to make it so only those with financial resources can access books. For him, it‘s clearly greed. 5y
LibrarianRyan THIS IS A BUNCH OF MARLKEY! If he wants to look at the frictionless cost of ebooks he needs to look no further than amazon. Amazon undercuts EVERYONE EVEN LIBRARIES!

Libraries are not training people to expect stuff free, we are making things accessible to everyone. Amazon is training people to want free and cheep books, and under valuing authors and publishers.

I'll stop yelling for now. Sorry.

DGRachel Beyond the impact on libraries and their patrons, I worry about the impact the backlash could have on authors. St. Martin's and Minotaur are both imprints of Macmillan and those two imprints publish some of my favorite books. I'm far more likely to give a debut author a chance if they're published by either imprint, even if I'm on the fence about the book description. The calls for boycotting Macmillan worry me. New authors will suffer, too. 5y
DGRachel @LibrarianRyan I agree with you about Amazon. How many times have you heard someone say “I won't pay more than $2.99 for an eBook“? The embargo won't make me change my buying or borrowing habits, but I think it's bad business on Macmillan's part. 5y
vivastory This embargo is ridiculous. I agree with others in this thread, Amazon is the real threat, not library patrons & frictionless costs 🙄 5y
Scochrane26 I love how he thinks we get e-books from the library “instantly”. Yes, after I sometimes wait 2-6 months, the same wait you have for their physical books. If I want a new book quickly, I‘ll go buy it, but I‘ve learned patience at the library. I‘ve been waiting 2 mths for an Agatha Christie book. 5y
Kayla.Adriena Remember that time that guy ( sorry don't remember his name) said something about taking funding away from libraries because "everyone buys their books on Amazon " and he had to apologize? This article makes me so angry! He should be sacked! And I should stop book buying on Amazon and instead from indie bookstores only ? 5y
ljuliel This really bugs me. I have several online only library cards, and most of the new release books have up to a 6 month wait already. I‘m not a very patient person, so if the wait is that long, I don‘t even put my name on the list. If it‘s one I‘m really excited to read, I‘ll just buy it . So if I‘m understanding the article correctly, libraries have a sort of rental policy ? 52 lends or 2 years ? Can any of the librarians tell how many lends 👇🏼 5y
ljuliel ☝🏼 they typically have out of a random book, compared to a really popular author ? And then you have to pay the same price ($60) for more copies after that ? I always wondered how that worked. Maybe time to choose books from other publishers instead. Would that work ? I‘m not sure what percentage of ebooks are available by them compared to others. 5y
ljuliel I‘m not sure Indie booksellers are ideal for people in my category. You‘re older, you have one income, you need large print, but don‘t like Romance books ( which is the main makeup of the LP books in our small libraries ), so we go with Kindle books which we can get sometimes at Amazon for a decent price. I don‘t live in an area with independent bookstores. I mainly depend on libraries or Amazon now because is what‘s available. 5y
Jillylovesbooks @ljuliel Some indie book stores have online ordering and will ship anywhere. We have Interabang Books here in Dallas and I know Book People in Austin is also popular. 5y
ljuliel Thanks @Jillylovesbooks , for the information. I‘ve never looked at that source for purchasing Large Print books. I‘m also clueless as to cost to purchase LP compared to regular sized print. 5y
Andrew65 @rubyslippersreads Me too, perhaps we should have an embargo on Macmillan books! 😡 (edited) 5y
Crazeedi This is a shame and we all need to voice our displeasure to these publishing houses 5y
Crazeedi @ljuliel exactly what you said 5y
