A little guide to the upcoming #MidwinterSolace weekly events.
😍
My #20in4 was a great success. I finished both of these magnificent books and Antarctica by Claire Keegan. In total, I managed 23 chapters in 4 days.
It's great to see this lovely readathon back. Thank you for hosting @Andrew65
#NaturaLitsy
This is such a beautiful book. Mabey is a prosaic nature writer who extols the complexities of the botanical world and its impact on our art, history, literature, medicine, and science.
My favourite chapters were The Cult of Celebrity, Growing Together and particularly Chiaroscoro.

November was a very enjoyable reading month. Can you tell I was hiding from the real world? 🌎 😅
🙂 Full #BookspinBingo board @TheAromaofBooks
🙂 All 3 picks for #Roll100 @PuddleJumper
🙂 No bails
😍 Highlights - The Cabaret of Plants, Januaries, Cursed Britain, as always, David Copperfield. 😍
🫣 Lowlights - The mysteries of Udolpho- so wordy! Orbital - disappointing

Spreading a little thoughtful cheer with brand new #MondayMoments 😊
It's a very gloomy, rainy, cold day here in Derbyshire. So I'm sending out my own smiley sunshine 🌞 with a check-in.
🌞How are you all?
🌞What have you been up to?
🌞How are you feeling?

I don't know what it is, but this is just not capturing my attention.

My #HyggehourReadathon will be spent in Antarctica with Claire Keegan 🎧 while browsing old December issues for #MidwinterSolace inspiration, sipping festive tea to set the mood. 🫖
It should knock a few more chapters of my #20in4 goal. Only 5 more to hit my 20 chapters in 4 days. @Andrew65
What are your plans? 😌
I love this image so much. I think it encapsulates the mood of #LitSolace completely.

So, #LitSolace is a tag I created to use as a connection with other Littens, using nature, mindfulness, Hygge, and the seasons using the wheel of the year.
It started with #MidwinterSolace in 2022 to help us through the winter nights in the runup to Midwinter Solstice. This extended to 2 months last year.
All welcome. X
Are you joining us for tonight's #HyggeHourReadathon 🕯📖 🕯
This event started at last year's #MidwinterSolace thought up by the wonderful @Chrissyreadit (Thank you so much x). It was so popular we decided to keep it going all year. It's a perfect way to reset before the start of another week.
Happy 1st December. Welcome to our 3rd #MidwinterSolace event. 💙❄️💙
Who's ready for 2 months of Hygge, mindfulness, good company, games, and of course, books to get us through the long winter nights? I know I am.
All are welcome to join us. The more the merrier. 💙❄️💙

Has it renewed your sense of awe and wonder at the plant kingdom?
Did you like the literary/artistic references throughout?
Did you have a particular favourite section or chapter?

Well, November was a blur! How did you get on with our #buddyread
Modern Fiction was first published in 1919 as Modern Novels. It was later published in her collection of essays The Common Reader - Vol 1.
Did you agree with her push for a more subjective, less materialistic firm of storytelling?

My #5JoysFriday include
1) This is a wonderful moment to stop and take measure of my week, so thank you @DebinHawaii
2) #NaturaLitsy Nov read is an absolute joy and is a new favourite.
3) Spectacular sunrises this week.
4) Excited for #MidwinterSolace
5) My beautiful mum, should have been her 76th birthday on Thursday. Gone for 21 years but never forgotten, always loved. ❤️
My final #BookspinBingo list for 2024. I have 7 #buddyreads to work through. I've left the rest pretty open for mood reading. It has been a very stressful year, and I want to finish it in a chilled mood. 🙃
I'm so looking forward to a relaxing family time, good food, good company, and obviously plenty of reading opportunities. ❄️📚 ❄️
@TheAromaofBooks
This remarkable, engrossing history of witchcraft and black magic extends from 1800 to 2015. Waters looks at the influence of imperialism and colonial cultures on England against the rise and fall of black arts. It's thoroughly researched and well written throughout.
Highly recommended.
A soft pick. Enjoyable, taut thriller but predictable.

@Andrew65 is back hosting his fab end of month readathon #20in4
Make your own goals to round off November.
I'm planning on a relaxing long weekend lost in these two beauties. I'll have earned it. Friday night sees me hosting 5 teenage boys celebrating the end of their mock exams. Should be fun! 😅
#VirginiaBloomsberries
Our next #buddyread is Francesca Wade's 2020 group biography examining the lives of five trailblazing women between the wars, including our Virginia.

Ok thriller with a deeply unpleasant MC. Good premise with a nice twist.
I'm really looking forward to our #HyggeHour readathon tonight. I have to start a new fiction book, but I can't settle on which one. I guess I have a little time to make my mind up. 📚🤔📚

I've been meaning to read this for a while now. I'm glad I did as it is certainly an eye opener. I do agree with the majority of Lanier's points. He certainly makes valid points on how much we have freely given away to social media conglomerates and what they're doing with that information.
My only niggle was the use of acronyms.

A great selection of titles in the 2025 Climate Fiction Prize longlist. Have you read any? More for the 📚

I'm leaving the mainstream social media sites in favour of BlueSky. I can't cope with the toxicity, misinformation and division anymore.

This image really made me pause. The thought of such a magnificent living tree turned into a dance floor is mind-boggling. 🫣
It is an absolute perfect wintery day accompanied by a perfect wintery read. Complete bliss 😊
We have our first snowfall in Derbyshire. ❄️
Seems a good opportunity to remind you of #NaturaLitsy last #buddyread of 2024, Giles Whitwell's Snow - The Secret Life of Snow (2019).

There are some absolute gems on this list. Thank you to all of you who put forward recommendations. It wasn't an easy choice. I've checked that they are all widely available.
I'm so excited to be reading these with you.
I will link all of these titles in the comments. I best get writing to 🎅 with my 📚 list.
#Hyggehour is starting to turn into #Hyggehours now that the dark, wintery nights are here. Are you extending your hour too?
Tea, toasty warm under blankets and lost in tales of discovery are the best tonic to a cold, blustery day.

Bloody hell!!! I listened to this amazing piece of analysis from Trump's only niece. She has the perfect ringsize seat to unpick all the damaging seams of this incredibly dysfunctional family. Not only as a direct witness but also a clinical psychologist, gives her the insight to provide a clarifying portrayal of Donald Trump.
What a family!!!
🌳 I'm going to try something new for #NaturaLitsy 2025. A 5 minute #dailyread to press pause, soothe the soul and maybe learn something new or interesting. 🌳
I've chosen A Tree A Day by Amy-Jane Beer, purely because there are tree species, art, history, hopefully a little something for all. My intention is to have a no-pressure, take what you need from it, vibe.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

This fantastic book has been published in the US this week, under the title Vanishing Treasures. The author is donating 💯 author royalties, in perpetuity, to climate change charities.
I highly recommend it and it makes for a beautiful gift. Go buy multiple copies. 😊

Oh my, this is a gripping thriller for a winter night. I read it in one sitting. The plot centres around 3 separate locked-room mysteries, with the tension persistantly ramped up. This occurs during a global pandemic.
Highly recommended. ❄️😱❄️
I have so much love for this boy, Ronnie. ❤️

This contemporary retelling of Dracula is so good. I can't put it down.
