What an exciting political thriller!

The best part of the book were the characters. I loved the two main characters, Kostas and Jessica. Sometimes in thrillers characters can take a backseat to the action of the story, but not here. They were well developed and I loved their bond.

The story was well crafted. It was fast paced and had short chapters.

This month, I plan to post about the #BookSpinBINGO picks I‘ve read this year. Here is the first, my #DoubleSpin pick for January. I‘m so glad I read it — not only to help me connect to the season, but also because it gave me a better sense of who Mary Oliver was as a person. I intend to read more of her poetry in 2026.

My December #Bookspin (20) is a seasonal #MoodRead from books that I already own and my #DoubleSpin (10) is The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson. I've been wanting to try something by him, so this little seasonal novella might be a good intro into his work.

I put off reading this book for a long time because I figured it would be too sad. But #QueerBC made me pick it up & I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Yes, there are heavy themes of death & grief, and the title doesn't lie. But overall the feeling of hope prevails. I loved the found family elements, and the way smaller interconnected stories were weaved throughout showing how our lives impact the world around us in ways we don't realize

This was my favorite quote from the book. I guess I find it comforting, because I often feel like a jumble of terrible feelings doing its best to somehow be a decent human being anyway.

Gilead was a bit of a slog at times, but ultimately very beautiful. There's so much kindness and thought in it.
