Bookwormjillk It was fun to revisit his earlier stories and see him start to play with some of his longer books and themes. My dad had the version with the eyeball hand on the cover when I was a kid and I always had nightmares about it. Also Children if the Corn was a sleepover favorite so yay for nostalgia. 1mo
AllDebooks I enjoyed this collection. As @Bookwormjillk said, it's fun seeing the formation of his longer works. Children of the corn was so creepy. X 1mo

TieDyeDude I was surprised to see him flirt with sci-fi with I Am the Doorway. He doesn't seem to play in that sandbox too often. I liked the "bad deal" stories, Quitters Inc, The Ledge, Lawnmower Man. Lawnmower, Trucks, and Mangler were pretty silly ? I found Last Rung ? maybe the most memorable. It had an aching sweetness to it, but I seem to like unrequited/unreciprocated love stories for some reason... 1mo
BarkingMadRead @alldebooks children of the corn has always creeped me out! The movie is so messed up! @TieDyeDude yes! Mangler was so silly at the end 🤣 1mo
Balibee146 Oh I love that edition. I didn't pick up Night Shift last month sadly but I do like it as a collection. I really enjoy King short stories 😍 1mo
LoverOfLearning Just recently started reading SK! Long list of books to read 😩 1mo
kwmg40 I enjoyed these stories, especially because, as @Bookwormjillk mentioned, we can see themes that King expands on in future books. Like several of you here, I too found Children of the Corn very creepy. 1mo
Karkar A little late to the party. This is one of my favorite of SK‘s short story collections. So many great ones in this book! 4w

ElizaMarie Awe I love Felix!!! 5y
CBee Did you get another kitty?? 😁 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CBee yes!! It‘s long a long story! I thought he was a she and he‘s a he and I really didn‘t want a he with Fiona. The girl thought he else‘s a he. When I got home and started looking I thought I saw “something “ down there and took a picture and sent to @AmyG @TheBookHippie and @Soubhiville and we all decided he was a she. I had to take him to the vet the next day and the vet asked what his name was and I said it‘s a girl and he said nope!! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CBee the first couple of days took some adjusting, but now they love him. Fiona gives him a bath everyday and they sleep beside each other. I‘m old and don‘t want a man so I guess I‘m the crazy cat, book lady now!! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CBee well, it‘s not that I don‘t want a man! They are all crazy and it‘s hard to date in covid world 😱😱😱 5y
CBee @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks firstly, you aren‘t old! Quit saying that, you‘re not much older than me, silly 🙃 5y
CBee @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love that you took a pic and sent it to like three different people - like is this a boy cat? Cause there‘s something down there 😂😂😂 I am dying 😂😂 5y
Trashcanman @CBee what you talking about? You're old. 5y

CBee @Trashcanman my penny loafers are the BOMB. I put quarters in them cause I'm cool like that. 5y
Trashcanman @cbee You ain't got to lie Craig, you ain't got to lie! 5y
CBee @Trashcanman okay, I'm old cause I had to look up what that meant. You got me 😂 😂 5y
Trashcanman @CBee Ha!!!!🙃🤗❤ 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Trashcanman I feel old!! Nothing to do and no one to do anything with. Every man I have talked to recently has had issues from previous relationships... so do I, but you have to move on! Also I have had to break down and get a medicine holder so that makes it official!! 🤣🤣 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CBee @TheBookHippie was dying laughing!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 5y
Trashcanman @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks You'll find someone awesome and when you do you feel like a teenager again. Can't help you on the medicine holder, but you're in good company because I have one too lol ha! 🤗🤗 5y
CBee @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I would‘ve been too! 😂😂 5y

Catsandbooks He's so adorable! I'll be on the lookout for mail. I feel so bad because I'm so behind on Litsy Love 😞 unfortunately I found out about something really devastating not that long ago and it's really thrown me. Sometimes I think I should take a break from the group so I don't keep getting behind, but I really love the community. Just having a tough time right now. (edited) 5y

At work and reading this old gem. It‘s a hard one to read in that there‘s so much to think about as you go. And even though it was written awhile ago it definitely still speaks to now, it‘s a timeless book. Not very Christmasy, but I was in the mood 🔥🔥 #Fahrenheit451 #raybradbury #nightshift

SexyCajun I love Stephen King but I absolutely could not bear this book 🤷🏼‍♀️ sorry. I did read the majority of it I‘m not sure exactly what it really was but the book was horribly boring. 7y
DGRachel @SexyCajun No worries! I‘m learning that King is hit or miss with me. Some of his stuff I love and some of it, I can‘t even finish! 7y
InLibrisVeritas This one was mildly disappointing for me as well. A few of the stories I enjoyed, specifically the Salem's Lot tie ins, but the rest were hit or miss. I finally get the family guy joke of him writing a story about a demonic lamp now, he can make anything into a monster it seems 😂 7y
Karkar I actually liked most of this collection. I liked how many of the stories set up future books. Such as The Stand, Christine. 7y
BookwormAHN I really enjoyed a few of the stories like The Lawnmower Man and Children of the Corn, but a lot of them were rather stupid. 7y
Chrys Stephen King is hit or miss for me as well. I do like most of the stories in this collection, but some of his works I have a hard time getting into. I really liked the stories that tied I to his other works, and also the story Graveyard Shift-though I can‘t explain why i like that one 7y
Eggbeater I had a different experience. I love SK's short stories. He seems to get some of the ideas for his novels from playing around with them. My favorites were Quitters, Inc. because I was a heavy smoker and torturing my family would not have made me quit and Children of the Corn. Obviously CSI didn't exist in the 70s or you wouldn't put a child with his throat slit in the back of you trunk, then go for help! @DGRachel 7y
CSeydel Yeah I kind of felt the opposite about the novel tie ins... I didn‘t love Night Surf, and I thought Jerusalem‘s Lot was kind of tedious. Quitters Inc was everything a short story should be, taut, compelling, and relatable. I found Last Rung on the Ladder unexpectedly tender and heartbreaking. I Know What You Need disappointed me, it started strong but kind of dribbled to a meh conclusion. (edited) 7y
JulAnna I like SK‘s short stories as a rule. He is often criticized for being too wordy, but he is also able to paint detailed, quick pictures with his words. Quitters, Inc is a story that has stuck with me through the years. Graveyard Shift and Last Rung on the Ladder are also two of my favorites. 7y
daena I really enjoyed the collection, but I also have found that reading wise sometimes I am just in the head space for short stories. Quitters, Inc was a fantastic short story. I also really liked The Last Rung on the Latter. I have to say though, The Mangler particularly disturbed me for some reason, which is good. 7y
LauraJ I enjoyed most of the collection and was most disturbed by the stories that involved the horrors set in an every day workplace. @daena The Mangler especially! 7y
TheNeverendingTBR Great collection of shorts here, Gray Matter being my favourite! ☺ 7y
Scurvygirl Trying to catch up on the #losersclub and I had forgotten how many of these stories had been translated into movies. I am a fan of short stories in general, I love how they leave you guessing or wanting more. Strawberry Spring is well played as is Battleground. Quitters, Inc. is probably one of my favorites, the ending is hilarious. 7y
