Murphy is phenomenal at delving between intertwining narratives, exploring addiction, mental illness, gentrification, and the powerful history behind the NYC AIDS crisis with a diverse set of activists, artists and addicts whose fates are flawlessly braided together through the intervening decades. The fictionalised element of the movement runs veridical to history, and I was especially moved to hear the resounding voices of women with HIV/AIDS.
