Another one down for #stayhome24in48. I was already half way thru it and just decided to finish it. A chatty and very outdated tour guide to NYC. Amusing at times but also frustrating because it was by no means as charming as her other books. However, I loved the aha! moments when Hanff drops just why a place was named the way it was. There were some truly bad typos in here though that the editor really should have caught. #24in48 #readathon

On Riverside Church in NYC. Now I really want to look up this church and see if there was any backlash (I suspect so) on having a woman minister.

Is this part of the New York mystique? I'm not sure this is still true. But there is something equalizing about NYC that other cities don't seem to have... Thoughts?

I read this for the first time in the 1980's. When I was planning my first visit to New York City a couple of years ago I went back to it before I read any current travel guides. Helene Hanff captures the spirit of NYC so well.
