Love That Split the World
Love That Split the World | Emily Henry
"A truly profound debut." "Buzzfeed" "A time-bending suspense that's contemplative and fresh, evocative and gripping." ""USA Today"" "Henry's story captivates, both as a romance and as an imaginative rethinking of time and space." "Publishers Weekly" "This time-traveling, magical, and beautifully written love story definitely deserves a spot on your bookshelf." "Bustle"Emily Henry's stunning debut novel is"Friday Night Lights"meets"The Time Traveler's Wife"and perfectly captures those bittersweet months after high school, when we dream not only of the future, but of all the roads and paths we've left untaken. Natalie's last summer in her small Kentucky hometown is off to a magical start . . . until she starts seeing the "wrong things." They're just momentary glimpses at first her front door is red instead of its usual green, there s a preschool where the garden store should be. But then her whole town disappears for hours, fading away into rolling hills and grazing buffalo, and Nat knows something isn't right. Then there are the visits from the kind but mysterious apparition she calls "Grandmother," who tells her, "You have three months to save him." The next night, under the stadium lights of the high school football field, she meets a beautiful boy named Beau, and it's as if time just stops and nothing exists. Nothing, except Natalie and Beau. A bit confusing as I wasn‘t sure what was going on; but then neither did Natalie. She‘s half native, adopted but loved and just finished high school in Kentucky. All her life she‘s had visions of alternative realities and now she‘s told she has ‘3 months to save him‘ but not whom or from what. Then she meets Beau, the ‘band hall ghost‘ and they‘re immediately attracted. But time is running out.
Liked the ending - but wish there was an epilogue.

Ch 2: I love Gus (the St. Bernard)

This starts strong: Natalie has always been visited by (a hallucination?) she calls Grandmother who tells her stories to prepare her for her future. Now Natalie is graduating high school and Grandmother visits one last time to tell her she has three months to save "him" and she needs to find Alice Chan to help her. But then it starts getting messy. Natalie meets a boy who lives in an alternate timeline and they fall in instalove as Natalie ⬇️

bookandbedandtea ⬆️ struggles with questions of her identity; tries, with Alice's help, to figure out who Grandmother is and how Natalie- and her new beau, Beau- are able to slip through time; and discover who is the "him" she needs to save and how to do it. The beginning and end are good but the bulk of the book is bogged down by too much introspection. 2y

This book is so interesting and by the end, I was in both sad and happy tears!

A little fantasy, a little romance and a little sci fi, this book forced me to explore beyond and appreciate the essence of something I typically would not read but am interested in! Natalie receives visits from an “apparition” (Ghost? God?) she refers to as simply “Grandmother,” and on this one day in particular she warns Natalie she has three months to save “him.”

A great book! A rough beginning though. The Romance is strong with this book as well as the mystery....🤔

This Ya sci-fi/magic realism was a good escapist read for me. The Native American stories and mythology is the core strength of this book, and it has a well developed science fiction and supernatural aspect that I enjoyed. Overall, a fun escape but requires some eye rolling because of insta love 🙄

Gissy Good to know your impression about this book. I won a copy several months ago in my book club raffle but I didn't know if I would like it. 7y

I came into this book with very high expectations because I read A Million Junes, first. The beginning of the book, I felt was rather slow, however, the pace quickly picked up! By the end I was left in tears! All the feels!

So. I enjoyed the story very much. BUT! I really struggled with a Native American main character and the use of tales from so many Nations from a white author.

So my husband rented interstellar for me last night and today I read this book, of which I had no idea of what it was really about. Time travel, space time continuum, love, loss and sacrifice. I honestly feel like the universe is trying to tell me something. I enjoyed it though. Now on to a good simple murder mystery maybe😂

3/5 stars. This book was pretty good until the end, which felt like a complete cop out. I like the fact that this book had an adopted poc main character but honestly it felt like a white woman was trying to be cultured and it went completely wrong. But that's just what I got from it. Did any of you like this book? What did you think of the authors take on aboriginal culture in America?

#unhauled a LOT of loved but unneeded books today at my local used book store. Ended up with enough to bring home these babies. #Bookhaul It was like I stumbled upon everything I wanted. I had just started reading The love that split the world in galley format (don't judge too harshly. I'm mad behind on reviews) and stumbled upon a copy and much much more. Keep tuned into my YouTube channel at Letmetakeashelfie and watch out for a book haul vid.

I normally like my YA to be dark and a bit twisted but this one was on the lighter side and based more in the world we live in. Sorta. I like the Native American lore in the story and the twists that surprised me. It's a good read if you're looking for something light!

Finished this one today and really enjoyed it! It's a love story with a catch... Natalie and Beau live in separate dimensions and their time together may be limited. Natalie tries to figure out what's going on with the help of a woman she calls Grandma and the cryptic stories she tells. I did not want this story to end!

This book was really beautiful and really strange.
The good: Great characters: I liked the protagonist, the love interest was 👍, friends were realistic, loved the family. The love story was super tense despite the insta-love. And I loved the setting.
The less good: wasn't a huge fan of the parables. The psychologist was weird. Most of all, the ending made very little sense. 😕
Read it if you like pretty writing with a lot of weird 7/10 ⭐️

This was a parable that had parables in it. It was stories within stories. It was a creation myth and a love story. All rolled into one. The end tries to explain the magic a little too much, but still very very good. #litsyatoz #h
