A novella about nuns...in space! Follows a spaceship convent named Our Lady or Impossible Constellations. Diverse characters. Explored how religion and imperialism can intertwine.

My only complaint was I was hoping for some theology discourse in the book but it was still a good read.

A dark adult fairytale mythologizing the fears surrounding becoming a parent in present day New York that also explores racism and features Norse mythology, witches, and book lovers.

I caught at least two Easter eggs referencing other gothic/horror novels.

Tbh, in between pick and so-so. More thriller than horror. More gory than it needed to be. And by the end, more questions than answers. Still a high anxiety chilling read.

Wow. My favorite Jackson so far. Great deep characters and an eerie feel throughout. Hubby and I watched the Netflix movie last night which was good but as usual I prefer the book. Some of the changes they made were strange and very much changed the subtext.

Good but very sad. I still am not sure how I feel about some of the characters.. This wasn‘t quite what I was expecting from this book though. Very sad and trigger warning for torture and gore.

Those who buy and read ebooks a lot which company do you buy from and why? (Amazon, B&N, Kobo, etc.)

I‘ve used Amazon Kindle for years and have quite an extensive library but am considering if I should make the switch to another provider. Thoughts?

I got it!! I‘m so excited!! I started reading it by downloading the free Kindle sample yesterday. And my bestie is listening to the audio and said that the actress who plays Aunt Lydia narrates it!

1. THE GUNSLINGER - I‘m kind of “eh” so far...but I‘ve heard a lot of people say this about the first Dark Tower book so I am pushing on with it.

2. SELF-COMPASSION - Just started this morning. I was led to read this book next as my non-fic/self-help book. I guess I could use some self-compassion...

Lots of potential but it just fell kind of short for me. A good story and a very interesting premise (1920s Mexico + Mayan mythology + Cinderella story) but the characters and their interactions lacked some depth. The last part of the book was the most interesting. Good read but I wasn‘t blown away.

I AM blown away by that cover though 🤩

Been reading this book and I‘m about halfway through. I‘ll probably finish it because I do want to know how it ends but I have to say I‘m not super engrossed in this story... Very interesting concept and I love the integration of Mayan mythology but something is falling short for me...

I liked this much better than the Book of Etta - it felt a little closer to the original book which is still the best in my opinion. I liked the jumps from different times and POVs in here. And as always I enjoyed the diary style of writing. We got more world building and saw how other communities live in this post apocalyptic world too - for better and worse.

This Christian thriller/suspense takes place in #Alaska. It was free on Kindle and a pretty good read. But a little faith heavy. Someday I‘ll read the sequels as it‘s part of a series called “Alaskan Courage”.

Just started. Highly praised by my fiancé who had to read it for a political science literature class.

The majority of this thriller takes place on a cruise #ship. Finally one for the challenge I‘ve read

Well that was disturbing.

Like most short story collections, some of these weren‘t great and others will be lingering with me for a while. And some, specifically the last story, was a little too disturbing. Sometimes I wish I could erase images from my brain 😬

Overall, creepy stories with some pretty good Stephen King-esque writing.

So the past few books I‘ve picked to read next by sorting randomly the books on my Goodreads account and picking what comes up first.

This one is next according to Goodreads‘ randomizer. Even though it‘s horror I‘m hoping it‘ll be a little lighter than The Postmortal 😥

Well that was interesting. Starts out kind of funny and somewhat light hearted then gets progressively heavier and heavier. I‘m not sure what to think of the ending...but it was an interesting exploration of what could happen should we find the “cure” for aging.

Along with The Lathe of Heaven and Parable of the Sower, I‘m on a roll of reading books dealing with human overpopulation.
