Memory, identity, and an unplanned future are at the forefront of this touching #ya novel.
"A book becomes a living thing only when it interacts with a reader. What do you think happens in the gaps—the unsaid things, everything you didn't write? The reader fills them from their own imagination. But does each reader fill them how you want, or in the same way? Of course not."
While I'm not participating in this weekend's #24in48, all of you dedicated #littens reading away have inspired me to start this contemporary #ya novel—-about theater, Hamlet, OCD, friendship, love, and more—which has been on my TBR pile for way too long.
(Paired with a scoop of cookie dough, because why not?)
Trying out another #audiobook, this time a book of #shortstories. Maybe it's the New Yorker in me, but I have to listen at 1.25 speed or else it's too slow.
One of my best friends had a baby shower today so I obviously had to bring a book! This #picturebook has such a sweet message of love and belonging, perfect for bedtime or anytime.
To say I have a bit of a sweet tooth would be an understatement. Almond has such an easy, funny, informative way of writing, and this book introduced me to a number of regional candy bars that I love (like Valomilk...yum!).
I listened to my first #audiobook in over a decade! I've been walking a lot this summer and thought it would be nice to "read" on the move. I plan to listen to more, though nothing compares to a print book! #summerreads
'Tis the season for books set at sleepaway camp #mglit #summerreads
#tbt to #independentbookstoreday when I took on the #bkbookstorecrawl, visited six independent bookstores in six and a half hours, and came home with a whole new TBR pile.
I've been in a bit of a reading slump lately (which is why I haven't posted in awhile). I'm hoping a day in the park with iced coffee and Ove is just what I need to get over the slump and back toy bookshelves.
#riotgrams Day 15: #booksandtreats
Books about love and apple pie are only elevated by pie of your own!
#riotgrams Day 14: #kissingbooks
Chocolate lips pair best with an equally sweet romance
#riotgrams Day 13: #pinkcovers
Pink is my favorite color, but it sure is lacking on my book covers!
#riotgrams Day 12: #outside
Today is cold, slushy, and perfect for a cozy murder #mystery. I ran outside for a quick picture and then ran back in and directly under a blanket.
#riotgrams Day 11: #favoritechildrensbook
I came across this picture book when I worked as a bookseller and became one of my favorites after one read. The art, the writing, the humor -- it's all so wonderful!
Beyond fashionably late to the party, but I'm making up for it with equally unfashionable slippers and a Litsy recommended book I can't wait to start (thanks, #littens!). #litsypartyofone
#riotgrams Day 10: #comics
I used to have shelves full of Archie comic books (side note: how good is Riverdale?) but now this cover is the closest thing I come to today's prompt...
#riotgrams Day 9: #authororcharacterwhosharesyourname
There's something about this prompt that made my mind go blank. I know I've never read a book by or about an Abbe (not short for Abigail!) but there have to have been some Abbys/Abbeys/Abigails but I couldn't think of a single one. So I went with a book I haven't read yet by the equally unique spelled Abbi Glines. (Though if you can think of any Abbe books...)
#riotgrams Day 8: #blackhistorymonth
A beautiful, lyrical memoir for all ages
#riotgrams Day 7: #mylocallibrary
"My" library will always be the one I went to growing up - small, cozy, and welcoming. My new library is enormous, impressive, and it serves pie...so while it may not have as special place in my heart, it'll do.
#riotgrams Day 6: #CurrentRead
A young actress filming in 1950s West Berlin filled with intrigue and mystery #ya
#riotgrams Day 5: #bookishgoods
My bookish magnets always put a smile on my face. (And "I read past my bedtime" is a personal favorite motto...)
#riotgrams (belated) Day 4: #favoritevillain
Everyone concentrates on the Trunchbull, but Mr. Wormwood rips apart books, talks down to his daughter, and doesn't understand the importance and wonder of reading. Luckily, like all of my favorite villains, he gets his comeuppance.
#riotgrams Day 3: #onewordtitle
A #ya #retelling of multiple fairy tales, including "The Shoemaker and the Elves" and "The Frog Prince"
I may not have read the books, but I am an evangelical for this movie. I've watched it over a dozen times and forced many of my friends to watch (and love) it too. #FunFridayPhoto
#riotgrams Day 2: #whereiread
Like most littens, I read everywhere, but two of my favorite places are this little corner of the couch and my bed (and that is currently unmade and very unphotogenic at this moment).
My least packed, most organized bookshelf. The rest are stuffed to the gills! This has a mix of books, I worked on, books I want to read, and books I want to show off. #shelfie #riotgrams
I've heard so many great things about this one, but it's still on my #tbt pile, waiting for me to get around to it. #funfridayphoto #ya
Taking Aim tackles teens and guns through short stories by big #YA authors. (Also, I'm obsessed with this cover.) #anthology
"I told you so you'd see how this whole world was made for you, how it warms when you smile and aches when you hurt." - The Love That Split the World
I'm so sad I finished this one; I loved being a part of its world. #ya #magicalrealism
Happy New Year, littens! I'm starting off 2017 with a reading challenge. Here's my first haul (A-G) for #litsyatoz! #bookishresolutions
Glad to end 2016 with The Rose and the Dagger. I loved the first in the series and I'm equally enthralled with this one. #ya #youngadult #seasonsreadings
