The colors used are calming and they feel humble and true. The illustrations are simple yet elegant which initially intrigued me to pick of this book.

This book is an honest representation of real life scenarios, I also think the author does a good job of avoiding stereotypes. This is a sweet story about a little girl who is faced with hardship involving her mother‘s health. She finds alternative ways to find happiness which include a mysterious boy and wild birds.

Nest is a very interesting story that students will relate to. I think lots of students have similar situations with sick parents so reading this story may help

Nest is a story about a girl who struggles when her mother develops symptoms of a serious disease. Chirp gets comfort from watching wild birds and begins to make a new friend. I think students will enjoy and relate to this book.

Esther uses a lyrical writing style. It is honest, humorous and deeply affecting. It is a story of family and love.

This is a work of realistic fiction. It was published in 2014 by Wendy Lamb Books. It takes place in Cape Cod. Naomi is an 11 year old and she has a happy life. However, when her mom develops symptoms of a serious disease the family begins to struggle. Naomi finds comfort in watching the birds. Soon she meets a new friend.

Contemporary realistic fiction. This is a book I plan to find again and continue reading. It‘s a book where I can relate and it makes me realize how important realistic fiction is not just for children but also for teenagers and adults and everyone. No matter the age, a good relatable book will always hit the spot.

Nest by Esther Ehrlich, 2014. This book is rich. You can taste the richness of the story as you read and it‘s beyond real. It‘s honest and it hits you in the heart where you can really feel it. It‘s a perfect example of a realistic fiction novel and a wonderful debut novel by Ehrlich.

Was ok. Think it was probably too YA for me. Probably perfect for a 12 year old.

First lunch break I've had this week to have a little read (working lunches 😔). Picked this off the tbr as I wanted a light read but I think it's another A Monster Calls!!

Lovely book about grief through the eyes of a young girl. I work in hospice and may recommend this as reading. The author does an amazing job at capturing and normalizing grief reactions in children and adults. #24in48

This book does not get nearly as much attention as it should! It's about Chirp, an eleven year old girl in the 70s, and a bunch of changes that happen to her. But it isn't a very "Coming of Age" book as it is a look inside Chirp's heart. Everyone and their mother should read this, armed with a box of tissues!
