This was often a tough book to read, about a 13 year old Nepali girl sold into prostitution in India. McCormick does an amazing job of describing how horribly Lakshmi is treated while also refraining from being excessively explicit. Lakshmi faces these circumstances with her mother‘s words that to endure is to triumph and never fully gives up hope.

vonnie862 I was about to borrow this book but the topic is too dark for me right now. 2d
Just_gerald @vonnie862 hahah 😌 2d
Daisey @vonnie862 I completely understand. Knowing it would be a fairly short read, I read just a few chapters each evening, but I never wanted to read along section at a time. 2d

When Marian‘s father is murdered she suddenly learns about the magical creatures in the world and her own abilities to communicate with them. As she learns to help them, she also learns about the business of selling and holding them captive. Is this why her father was murdered and how can she truly help these amazing creatures? I loved the mythological aspects of this story, but I was disappointed in the ending.

A book, a mug of boozy cocoa, and a blanket make for a perfect evening.

I‘m finding this story fascinating so far, but I‘m also far enough in that I am ready for some more answers.

This was a cute YA romance about a teenage blogger and a boy who spends his time outside of school helping in his family‘s traditional tea shop. Online, they‘re enemies, but you can guess how it goes when they unknowingly meet in real life to work together for small businesses in Chinatown threatened by a corporate buyout.

A couple of these might be a bit more #YA than #MiddleGrade, and I‘m not sure they all have ghosts, but this seemed as good a time as any to share my October recommendation shelf.

The tagged is my favorite spooky read to recommend. For a long time the reader doesn‘t know if it‘s a ghost story or if the main character is hallucinating.

Truly a YA book.A light, fun, read in a month when I have read some books with heavy topics that have weighed on me (Hitler‘s People,Nazi Wives). So witches, covens, magic, connection to the sea,& nature was a welcome respite.Themes of forging your own path & not someone else‘s predetermined path for you (Tana‘s parents & coven),finding your true self, your life‘s choices-perfect for YA.Cover art,end papers are stunning! #trope #YA #sundaybuddyread

I am impressed by this contemporary story about the aftermath of the residential school system. It‘s gentle, yet packs a powerful amount into 99 pages. Suitable for ages 10-14.
