I LOVED the TV show but haven‘t read the book yet. Maybe one day.
You don‘t need to love US football to love this book! Originally published in the late 1980‘s this #NF narrative tale follows a team of HS students in Odessa, Texas where 🏈 reigns supreme and a town‘s pride & hope is pinned to the players & coaches. It‘s also a look at race, economics, education, dreams, potential and disappointment. The new edition has a “what happened to 25 years later” which was heartbreaking in some ways. Outstanding audio
#BookSpin #NonfictionNovember So good!!! A bit long and goes off tangent but I‘m soooo invested in these kids lives….
So I don‘t read too much nonfiction, nor am I much of a sports fan, but this was a phenomenal book! Eye-opening and really quite disturbing. Not so much a book about football as a book about the practically religious role that football plays in a town whose priorities are direly skewed. Informative, but also heartbreaking at times. Really good book; would definitely recommend.

For years it‘s been my intention to read this book every September (have not seen the movie or series either), but the month always gets away from me and the book ends up in my maybe next year pile. This was the year! I didn‘t realize the book was nonfiction. And it‘s heartbreaking. Well, I‘m ready for some football, but now I‘m really wondering what some of my Sunday players endured.
I don‘t love #football so I didn‘t watch Friday Night Lights until a friend convinced me it was about a lot more than that. I loved the show and eventually read the book it‘s inspired by. An interesting look at Texas football culture. #FallisBooked
There is a tradition in some towns to host a #bonfire the weekend of a home high school football game. I read this one for a class - it selves into the impact high school football has, specifically in Texas, though it could be argued that the culture is everywhere. #FallIsBooked

I‘m at my parents‘ lake house so it was a matter of finding a book that fits today‘s prompt, #thewinnertakesitall. I think this fits the bill, although I‘ve never read it. I don‘t have much interest in American football (or any other sport 😂) but this one has been on my TBR for years. I think I need to read it. #abbainaugust

The book covers so much more than just a high school football team. Explores the racial, socioeconomic, and political dynamics of a small west Texas town in the late 1980s, in the course of a state championship-seeking season.
1. Anne of Green Gables
2. Bob's Burgers and Archer

Though I am not a fan of football, I enjoyed this book. He does a good job of bringing humanity and social consciousness to Texas football. I felt the book was a bit long, but worth the read.
#smellsliketeenspirit in that locker room. 😷 I loved this tv show but I have never read this book. Has anyone read it? And watched the show? Which was better? I loved the show so much that I can't imagine that the book was better in this instance. #JuneTunz

My life is Friday Night Lights: small town Texas, husband is a coach. This book is a portrait of 80s high school, football culture, cross-town rivalries, racial relations and of oil booms and busts. It is well-written and solid long-form journalism. You needn't be a sports buff or even a fan to appreciate it. Recommend the 25 anniv issue for a heartbreaker of an update on the post-HS lives of the players.
#Bookhaul from the thrift store :D I am so excited to read these!
#photoadaynov16 - #smalltown
I picked this up not too long ago b/c I loved the movie (the tv show was just all right), and I wanted the true story behind them. I grew up in a very football-centric world where football was everything to my family. Odessa, Tx is much the same way and it'll be interesting to read about this small town and their passion.

I'm not generally a huge sports fan and will generally be found reading at sports events, but this is on my shelf as a TBR. #augustofpages #bookphotochallenge
I just realized that I only own one novel on sports... And I haven't even read it yet 😂😂 I do however own a handful of non-fiction books on strength training 💪🏼 (I lift so I can carry all my books!) 📚 #augustofpages #photochallenge
#augustphotochallenge day 5 - sportsing! When I taught a reading class I challenged everyone to read a genre outside their comfort zone. When I played along it was sports. Luckily this is also part ethnography, part history (although I still skimmed the game descriptions) @TheSpinecrackersBookClub
I don't like it. It's boring, it doesn't grab my attention and I dread having to finish it for my book club. I hate to say that about a book but I just do not see how this will be interesting for300 MORE pages. When will this get interesting? So far I am averaging 1 nap per 10 pages.
Trying a sportsball book to read beyond my usual genres. "Life really wouldn't be worth livin' if you didn't have a high school team to support."
