The story may be the turn of the century and I have never lived in Brooklyn but I loved Francie Nolan in the way a book loving, raised on the Bible and Shakespeare girl who dreamed of being a writer would. To most who read this classic the take away is that life can be tough and unfair but I see it as a story of knowing who you are and living life to the fullest despite your circumstances.
