I always love short stories. This one I read on my spl day π loved it. It‘s a short one which one can finish within 30-40mins, but the effect lasts longer. Beautiful narration, and it ends with an awe. I always appreciate open ended stories than happy endings & this is not an exception. 3.5 βοΈ
My first read from #DecemberTBR #bookspinbingo #crushtherush #wintergames2020 #teamreadnosedreindeer 15points.
This is the first Murakami that I just feel flummoxed by. I feel like the end was supposed to be this big βduh duh DUHβ reveal moment, but I was only confused. Some Murakami stories have this effect on my, but in those cases I'm usually distracted enough by the gorgeous setting and atmosphere that I'm happy to be on the journey. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here.
Read for the #readingrush βread the first book you touchβ prompt.
Second book read for #AuthoraMonth in March, this one was a short novella. This story was an enjoyable read but have to say I feel I need to read it again to find out exactly what went on. It‘s quite philosophical and think it will take more than one read to pick up on all the points. One of the stories where what is not said can be more important than what is said. It all revolves around a birthday wish, but what exact,y was that wish?! π€π€π€
I feel like I need time to process this and maybe read it a few more times ... definitely along the philosophical line
This is only a 35 page ebook & I've borrowed it a few times but never read it. Well tonight I did, & I'm a little confused by this story! I read it again but I'm still not clear, which is nothing new from Murakami. Even so, this story still gave me goosebumps!
Can anybody else shed some light?
Some interesting explanations here...

Another Murakami short story hit
It was a short fast read. With Murakami as always you are left to your own musings. So the best part is the very open interpretation the book gives scope to. In his own intricate delicate story telling he left me with a question. May be I was the birthday girl, wishing.
Besides my gifts I got myself these items yesterday....
Well well, I am still speechless of Litten's generosity. ππ€©ππ€© So many gorgeous things... I still don't know how to thank you all for your gifts. I feel so blessed. Thank you to @Bambolina_81 @LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads @scripturient and @julesG
Coming home from bookshopping to more bookmail and birthday gifts ππππ @rubyslippersreads @Bambolina_81
I had a wonderful birthday today. Maybe the greatest of all. I had a great time in MΓΌnster, bought some great books and received really gorgeous gifts from my family and my Litsy family @scripturient @LeahBergen and @julesG . Bookish posts will follow tomorrow, I am exhausted right now and it is already dark here, so it isn't the right time for photos.
Thank you all for your birthday wishes, I am really happy about every single wish. π€©π
Wow. Okay so first I didn't understand the ending but then I checked up one explanation and it grew on me like a plant. Embracing and fresh. Must read because it has an amazing point of view.
"No matter what they wish for, no matter how far they go, people can never be anything but themselves. That's all."
As is Murakami's prose, this short story is packed with rich descriptions of mundane-ness, with his signature punch of magical realism. It's fantastic how he could do it in just 30 pages.
No matter what they wish for, no matter how far they go, people can never be anything but themselves.

Enjoy your celebrations and those 50 new birthday books. πππ
I can't wait for you to get your gifts @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks . I just forgot to get dog treats for your adorable puppy lol. ππ
It is a simple and a short book about a young woman, her 20. Birthday and a magical wish.
And as simple as it was to read as simple is my opinion. I liked it. Short but nonetheless wonderfull.
My favourite quote:
"No matter what they wish for, no matter how far they go, people can never be anything but themselves."
Gave this one 4 ? out of 5
Happy bee-day @ReadingEnvy !! ππππππ
It's my birthday today. π I want to have this cake. Pleeeaaassseee. π (seen at pinterest)
Auch wenn es ein kurzes Buch ist, besticht es gerade durch die KΓΌrze und dazu die passenden Illustrationen. π Unbedingt lesen. π und Gucken natΓΌrlich. π
Even though it is a short book, it is so superb because of its shortness and its fitting illustrations. π You have to read it. π and you have to look at it of course. π
I love it, when books quote other books. π or in this case link other books. π
