I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 211.

Has anyone read any of these?

This book is a long journey spanning from the Civil War to Victorian London. At first the no quotation marks really bothered me, but I got used to it quickly. I thought the writing was lovely. April seems to be my month for long books!
Got the notice that my Work is closed today due to the high winds. Which means a 3 day weekend, and the perfect time to start on this #chuckster. 😊
Thunderstorms are one of my all-time favorite things, but I also love the quiet that settles in during a snowfall. Tagged book is a long book that I hope to pick up soon. #thisorthat @RealLifeReading
Day 4
#7days7bookcovers I'm changing the rules. Information overload.
A fog-enshrouded hunt through sewers, opium dens, drawing rooms, and seance halls ensues, creating the most unlikely of bonds: between Pinkerton, the great detective; and Foole, the one man who may hold the key to finding Edward Shade.

I thought I might take a break from gothic lit but one review compared the writing to Cormac McCarthy. I was not disappointed! Taking place in the sewers and seance parlors of sooty Victorian age London, but with a Pinkerton detective from the post Civil War American Wild West, the plot was sophisticated and the characters were complex. The art of the con and I never knew who was conning who. Don‘t let the size dissuade you, well worth the weight!
What an amazing journey I've been on with this one. This features two protagonists, one a famous detective, one an infamous grifter. Their lives are intertwined from Africa to India, the Civil War to the American West, until murder brings them face to face in late 19th century London. Yet this is not simply a tale of hero and villain, good versus evil; lines are blurred, justice is redefined, and this saga becomes a tale I highly recommend ...
I‘m enjoying this book ... I‘m on page 320 and pleased there are more than 400 pages to go! The writing is cinematic and gorgeous. He doesn‘t just use words to describe people, places and events; he uses words to plunk you right down in the middle of it all. This passage is about William Pinkerton after he was injured at Antietam during the Civil War and tells you everything you need to know about his feelings for his wife.
Finished “The Obelisk Gate” by N.K. Jemisin. I really enjoyed it and thought about starting “The Stone Sky” but needed a break. So what do I do? I start this 731 page novel.
Starting this chunkster tonight ... and looking forward to a less hectic work schedule & more reading time now that Christmas is over.🤓
#jingleshelves #day10 - #redgoldgreen
Got a bit stumped by the themes for Sunday, so I procrastinated; what else is new? Gonna be making more of a push towards bigger books in the new year, so expect to see some of these entering my "Currently Reading" soon.
USPS for the win! 🙌After UPS delivered my package to the wrong city, USPS got it here quickly. This is my #bookoutlethaul from Black Friday. There was 3 others but 2 were gifts and the 3rd was a scratch and dent and that far too many scratches and dents so I won't be keeping that one. #bookoutlet #bookmail
Call me a boring old traditionalist if you like, but I prefer my novels with quotation marks 😑 (or dashes/guillemets if I'm reading in French). Bailed after Chapter 1.
Book Outlet is having a 30% off sale right now. I got on there to find books for the hubby for x-mas. I only ended up with 2 for him and 8 for me🙈🤷♀️#bookoutlet #oops #booksale
Look, I like a 700 page novel as much as the next person, assuming that novel is well written and actually going somewhere. This one didn‘t, so I‘m leaving it in the Watergate Hotel‘s library for someone else with more patience.
I have a difficult time visiting an independent bookstore without buying something. I have been waiting for this one to come out in paperback. Looks good for fall reading.
Heard mixed things about this one. Personally I loved it. A thick mystery with flashbacks and so much character depth and development. An amazingly detailed setting, which visually came alive for me. While I would have preferred the traditional quotation marks, still loved the dialogue and repartee between characters. I wanted a bit more mystery and overall twist for the ending, but that's just me being picky. Absolutely loved!
When I requested this book from NetGalley, I vaguely thought it would somehow be about Jack the Ripper. What I found was an intricate, unique but wordy story about William Pinkerton of the American Pinkerton Detectives and Swell Mob Prince Adam Fool. Pinkerton and Foole collide over the death of Charlotte Reckitt, one of them hunting her and one loving her. See https://wordpress.com/post/itsallaboutthebook.org/595 for a full review.
I have been reading this book for over a week and I'm not even half way yet. It's not even that it's bad, I've just been playing assassin's creed 😂
This is the only ARC I've ever received (via Goodreads). Hopefully, it won't be the last! #freebie #day13 #riotgrams
#riotgrams day 13 - #freebie
I'll take today as an opportunity to lighten my reading load. I'm definitly interested in where this novel is going, but I just don't have room for a 1,000 page library book in my life right now.
My husband is my enabler/best husband EVER.😍📚I love new bookshelves.....
When it rains it pours, I guess. Book Outlet order also came in today. I have my BOTM order coming and then I'm committed to buying no more books this month!
These are my #Maymostanticipated! I just finished The Essex Serpent last night (which was brilliant), so I can't wait to start the rest of these! #maybookflowers
Today's #bookhaul from today's library book sale. 😍
Morrigan seems impressed as well. 😻 #catsoflitsy
I enjoyed very few of the 700 pages in this book. Certain sections would get interesting but then it would get wordy and boring and could no longer hold my interest. I did not feel invested in any of the characters. The most interesting mystery was a secondary story which they solved disappointingly quickly. By the end I felt that the author accomplished nothing and just rambled on for 700 pages.
We must think of grief as a kindness. It is how we know we have loved.
Yayayayay!!!! I love all my #littens!!
I have a reading buddy today. My niece is not feeling good so we are hanging out in my bed. Ive got a book. She has Zootopia and a pile of stuffed animals.
I #quit this book after reading 20 pages. I was unable to follow the plot. Most of my reading time was spent figuring out if that sentence is a dialogue or not (due to no quotation marks!) It was really #frustrating and I can't imagine reading over 700 pages having to figure that out. Maybe I will try #audiobook for this. #booksiquit #nopunctuation #disappointedread
Going to put in a little late night reading time 'cause it's due back soon and there are 27 (!?!) people ahead in the reserve line.
@Lindy - guess I lied when I said the lines aren't too bad... 😱
When you have bought a whole new stack of books over the last couple days.
Life got in the way of my reading plans. I'll have to put Leopard at the Door on hold (literally). Instead I'm going to start this tome as I've got 9 days... #currentlyreading #libraryborrow
This. Ok, so I'm giving this a thumbs up, because it's totally the kind of deep, immersive, long, wonderfully masterfully wordy books I love. It's HUGE. and basically boils down to these sentences. I loved it, but it's not going to be for everyone.
