I only read the 3rd book in this series, Imago, in March, but am tagging the bind up which has the entire trilogy. Butler‘s imagination knows no bounds. This is a story of humanity and all its strengths and weaknesses when faced with an alien people who offer to save us, but at a price. This is Sci-Fi that asks tough questions, but doesn‘t provide easy answers.
"Your people contain incredible potential, but they die without using much of it."

This is definitely the best book I have with an alien on the cover! Gotta love the old-schoolness of it. #roaringwolf

For the #FreeThinker prompt, I immediately thought of Octavia E. Butler. Where other sci-fi writers sometimes just transpose a conventional story on to a futuristic setting, Butler pushed boundaries and allowed her imagination free reign, even if that takes the reader to uncomfortable places.

The Xenogenesis trilogy by Octavia Butler was amazing.

I have read the first two books in the series and I enjoyed them. I need to read the last one.

#LilithsBrood #OctaviaButler
The acclaimed trilogy that comprises Lilith's Brood is Hugo and Nebula award-winner Octavia E. Butler at her best.
Presented for the first time in one volume with an introduction by Joan Slonczewski, Ph.D., Lilith's Brood is a profoundly evocative, sensual -- and disturbing -- epic of human transformation.
I was utterly engrossed in each book, and I was bereft when the third book ended. For me, this was a highly successful re-read, as it was a beautiful reminder of why I fell in love with Butlers books all those years ago.

Of all the books I've read, especially sci-fi, I've never read anything quite like this amazing trilogy. Butler was far ahead of her time and she weaves a fantastic world that leaves the reader a bit uncomfortable, but questioning, of their own morality and values.
This definitely makes me curious of other works by Butler. She's a badass. 😁

If the goal of this trilogy was to make me feel just as uncomfortable as the resisters, it succeeded. Though none of the scenes were graphic, I couldn't help but imagine tentacle sex.
A strange but fascinating story that made me curious about Butler's other work.
I am curious how the Oankali originally started and which other species they traded with to reach their current form.
#AprilReads #ImHopeful
I'm about halfway on Clockwork City. I've been in a combination reading slump and inability to adjust to my overnight work schedule. Plus, 3 month old. So getting time to read where I don't just promptly fall asleep has been tough. 🤷♀️
Enjoyed this. Quite an unsettling world, but Butler might have been a genius. ZZZzZZ'd through the new year waking only briefly at fireworks. Breathed a sigh of relief that the toddler slept through it (win!). There is an abundance of winter citrus in the back yard, so I may have to make a salted lemon tart 😏
Letter X stumped me this #manicmonday Help me Google you‘re my only hope.

My dislike of hardcovers is well-documented, but I made an exception for this truly remarkable cover. -Becca
The good always tempers the bad, right?
My father was hospitalized, again, yesterday. I had to drive an hour and a half, in heavy fog, to visit him today.
I couldn't go that far without doing a bit more than just visit the hospital, though, so I found a nice little Vietnamese place for a bowl of pho for lunch, and stopped by a cute little bookshop just across from the hospital and picked up this book.
My sister and I are challenging each other to dedicate our February reading to Black History Month. We want to read 4-6 books (more if time permits for sure) from our shelves by black authors. I don‘t know about you, but I have more than enough books in my tbr pile & this is as good a time as any to get around to ones I keep meaning to read. So excited my stack will include Octavia Butler!!! #ReadingBlackout #BlackHistoryMonth Are you joining in?
So this just happened! I want to eventually have copies of all of her books for my bookshelf but these ebooks will work for now! 😁 Fledgling was also on sale for $1.99 so that happened too. No shame!
1. Lilith Brood by Octavia Butler
2. Still Me by Jojo Moyes
3. A Feast of Crows
4. Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
5. Jane Eyre- hoping to finally read this classic

I know I've posted about this series before but it was the first thing I thought of for today's #anditsaugust prompt. After the Oankali save the Earth, they repopulated it with #seniorcitizens. The humans they rescued and returned haven't aged during their time in deep stasis on the Oankali's ships but they're well over two and a half centuries old, if I remember the story correctly.
Centuries after Earth has been obliterated by nuclear war, survivor Lilith Ayapo awakens on a spaceship only to discover she and the rest of humanity have been rescued by an alien species called the Oankali. As Lilith learns to navigate the newly healed planet, she and the others must decide if the cost of survival is a price too high to pay.

The trilogy is basically a multigenerational family saga. Each of the books has a certain focus and I think would almost work as standalone. There is no middle book syndrome here, all three books gripped me the same. It's my first O.E. Butler and I am so impressed with her storytelling and how she incorporates her observations of the human race. The book is also a bit sexy and not in the "his six pack glistens in the sun" type of way.
Happy Birthday to Octavia E. Butler!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
#ReadingWomenMonth / day 18 / #womenofcolor / I have only read a couple of these, but I'm v v excited to read the rest!
Sometimes a little unnerving and uncomfortable, but in the way that great science fiction challenges you. #MayBookFlowers #InAGalaxyFarFarAway

"-- Or how could they let insane people gain control of devices that could do so much harm? If you knew a man was out of his mind, you restrained him. You didn't give him power."
I have other things I need to be doing but it's warmer here, so ...
I'd follow Lilith anywhere.
Learn from a master. The master. The one and only. The best.
This series was amazing. I was originally assigned an excerpt for my modern and contemporary literature class and it alone sucked me in. It's well written, imaginative, and thought provoking. I would recommend this to everyone.
There are about a billion books I could do for today's challenge as fantasy has always been my oxygen and sci-fi is becoming my water. I'd like to highlight some #diversereads though. Hang in there, I'm gonna be all over the comments with book suggestions. First and foremost has to be Butler though, right?

Holy guacamole, I am so behind on the #augustphotochallenge! #favfemalecharacter Lilith Iyapo!! If you haven't read the Lilith's Brood trilogy (or any of Butler's other works), get yourself to a library ASAP.
I started this series last week. I'm going through it really fast. I was about to read something between Dawn & Adulthood rites but I can't wait.
But what do I read on my flight to Denver 🙀✈️
