This story holds you from the first page and doesn't let you go until the last. An exciting "fight the patriarchy" story! Both sisters are awesome characters! They have fire and spirit, but also flaws that keep them from falling into any saint or superhero tropes. I will definitely get the next book when it comes out. I must find out what happens next! Great choice, FairyLoot!

The story follows Claudia who seems to be the only one who notices her best friend Monday is missing. Though that is the premise of the story, this book isn‘t exactly what one would file under mystery or thriller. I enjoyed the novel but found it depressing at times which is to be expected when books dredge up memories of 7th and 8th grade. (Seriously, those grades are the worst. Who‘s with me?) 4 ⭐

Daisy feels I should include a specific warning on this book. If starting #NightsMaster, after recently reading #GatherTheDaughters, prepare for your experience to be a bit...skewed. I think that's the least spoilery way to put it. I tried to explain to her that we readers can handle it, but she sees us humans as a weak lot. Rude. Also, typical cat thinking.

I love this novel! If I didn't have to take it back to the library soon, then I would read it again. It's so haunting yet also beautiful! I created my own hype for the book, and I am very fortunate it exceeded my expectations! If Jennie Melamed decides to write another book, I will definitely run to my bookstore to grab a copy. #GatherTheDaughters is a new favorite!

UP NEXT! "An heir to the creations of Margaret Atwood and Shirley Jackson." If that isn't a promotional blurb destined to win my attention, I don't know what is! And with an ethereal, melancholy vibe from this cover, I feel this book was written specifically for me! Okay, I need to get to reading this before I hype it up so much that no book in this reality (including this one) could begin to meet my expectations. See you on the other side!

I checked this book out at the library not knowing really what to expect. And it got to me. The story hit me right in the feels. I will always be a sucker for stories that essentially have the main characters discovering what they love to do most. Romances between individuals are alright, but if you really want to reach me, show me a character discovering who they really are and finding peace doing what they love!

If the queens are taken before their powers show, how does everyone know which group the triplet belongs too? Can any of the triplets develop the same powers? If Mirabella has power, why not use it to kill Rho or any of the other priestesses who get on her way? Surely if people are expecting her to kill her own sisters, they can't be surprised if she turns on them right?

Ugh. Don't you hate when some character you hate turns into someone you sort of respect? Eww. I hate being an open minded, rational individual. 😜 That said, well played Holly Black, Cardan gets a reprieve from my wrath...for now. I enjoyed #TheCruelPrince, and I can't wait to read the next book. 4 out of 5 ⭐️

Starting chapter 15, and so far I am enjoying it. Only, I know this book is YA, I really do, but please tell me Holly Black does not turn Valerian or Cardan into redeemable love interests. If that happens, I may puke. I blame Stephanie Meyers, because of her example, many I feel have gotten a Mr. Darcy personality confused with a destructive, sociopath personality. 🤣

I arrived at chapter 47 last night. I started the chapter around 11 PM to get a little reading in before bed. Big mistake! So much happened I couldn‘t put it down, and I stayed up way too late! Why am I telling all these mundane details? Because what I really want to share are all the crazy details in the story so far, and I can‘t without giving a lot away. Just so much is wrapped up together in this novel!

I found it! 😱I remember reading this in 7th or 8th grade, but all I remembered from it was a cat eye on the cover, a teenage girl as the main character, and that it involved a paranormal element. At age 33, I can finally put a title and author with it! As for whether it's any good, I have no idea what I would think of it now, but I know I enjoyed it then. This was one of the first books I read with a paranormal plot that wasn't family-friendly.

Rating wavers from 3.5 ⭐️ to 4 ⭐️ depending on my mood. I enjoyed the story though the romance angle seemed a little too soap opera for me at times. But I'm just an aromantic (is this a word? if not, it is now), asexual girl in a romance-driven world, so not much I can do. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's always difficult to give graphic novels a full five stars because I always feel as though I'm entering the story in the middle without all the needed background information. One day I shall read all the connecting storylines and then I might be able to come back and change 4 stars to 5 stars.

Even feeling a little out of the loop, I still found this graphic novel engaging and entertaining. So I would call it a success.

It is impossible not to empathize with Starr by the time you finish this book.

Once you read Octavia Butler, she won't let you go until the last page. Her writing is too magical and mesmerizing.

I've been spoiled by X-Men, Inhumans, Metahumans, and superhero origin stories. Because of them, I expect a showdown between the Clay's Ark people and the Patternists in the last book. From what I've read of Butler's stories she doesn't take the well-used paths though. So I suspect my desire for this showdown may go unfulfilled.

Wow! Powerful and brutal! I was glued to the novel until the very end! However, I was left with a depressing truth.

Basically no humans should be allowed power. Humanity sucks. I fully support an animal or extraterrestrial uprising. All joking aside, I have to admit, at first I found it gratifying to see the tables turn in terms of women accessing more power. Sadly, they gave into human nature, and exploited such power. 01/02

I've only read four of Octavia E. Butler's books so far, and loved each of them! She can do no wrong! I often find my reaction peculiar since the stories and characters themselves often leave me so frustrated and angry. The fact those feelings never leave me, and yet I can find so much still to love about the novel is a testament to her magic.
