Loving this series. I'm not sure why I waited so long to read it. The atmosphere and setting of 1920s New York is perfect.

I typically don't read series, but I absolutely LOVED The Diviners series by Libba Bray. This was book two, and even though I liked book one and three better, this was still the best of June.

Though I will always like the first book better, I also love everything about this book. The first time I read it, the new character introduced was my least favorite, but I liked her a lot more upon re-reading.
It's been an age since I read The Diviners but I remember enjoying it. Time to find out how lost I'll be here.
I just finished book 2 in The Diviners series. Almost as good as the first. I really like the narrator, so it's likely I'll listen to book 3. I like that you can search the library database by narrator.
I collect sentences for my students to study and emulate. I will use this one with my student writers next year. The idea is to craft an original sentence using the structure of the model. I usually write one as an example, but haven't done that yet. Anyone want to take a stab at it?
I love when the book I'm reading quotes poetry and poets that I love.

3.5 stars-this one took me forever to finish but I finally did and I enjoyed it. I don't care much for the narrator but the books are soo long. This was creepy AF. I did like the characters. It was a bit predictable in some aspects but in some parts, I didn't see coming.
A solid 4/5 for this sequel to the Diviners. I enjoyed this book. 🙂
Actually finished this last night, just forgot to post about it. An excellent book, it felt shorter than the first in the series despite being longer
Just some #ItsSoLateItsEarly reading
Beach Pneumatic Transit station. This place is so spooky and beautiful... I want to see it in person!!!
This is my 2nd time reading and I love the whole cast BUT I constantly find myself skimming along until I come across the part of the story with Sam and Evie. They're my favorite characters in the whole series and I definitely have a thing for snarky city boys *swoon*
I wasn‘t as taken with this one as I was the first. The main character, Evie, who showed growth at the end of the first book seems to have regressed and thinks about nothing but partying and drinking. Most of the book is devoted to new characters, leaving the old ones to languish in the background. Still a great premise and the audiobook is entertaining and well-done, so I still plan to read the third in the series.
Finished this chunkster and let me tell ya, it is so much better as an audiobook. A fantastic story full of characters and details that bogged me down when I was reading but really was able to engage while listening. Probably helped that January LaVoy is amazing in all the different voices. Will definitely listen to the rest of the series.
At the point where I bailed last time and enjoying it much more in audio format. January LaVoy is a fantastic narrator!
It's been years since I read the first one, so it took awhile to get back into the story and some Google searches to remember who all the characters were. I enjoyed so much about it, but there are just so many storylines going on that none of them felt well developed. I'm playing the long game with this one and hoping the story arcs across all the books are more satisfying than the first 2. February #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
Just finished book 2 in the series! I love the character narrations on the audio versions. Now I begin book 3...
It had been a while since I read The Diviners so it took time to get back up to speed, but once I did this sequel was quite a ride: several interlinking subplots come together in the end while leaving plenty of plot for the next book. This book boasts a large cast of likable, interesting characters and a compelling Big Bad. This was the last book in my dollar store haul--I may have found it by chance but I will be on the lookout for the next one!
For some reason I didn‘t love this one as much as the first book of the series, but I still really enjoyed it! Did this one audiobook, and the voice acting was once again magical!
This was a tough decision since I have no issues with the writing itself, in fact there are some beautifully haunting parts. But half way through, and I just don‘t care about what happens. I may give this series another try as an audio, but for now, it‘s a pass.
In other news, a pretty sad showing for my #bookspinbingo Another reason for throwing in the towel.
Lots of cool shadows on my morning #audiowalk with Casey.
I‘ve now got less than an hour left in my LAIR OF DREAMS reread, but I feel very much like I picked up a cold somehow. Damn. I might not manage to do enough active stuff to let me finish the book today. Or whatever order those words should‘ve gone in.
It‘s Casey‘s second birthday! We celebrated with a long #audiowalk through a fancy neighbourhood.
I went a little heavier on the chili paste with tonight‘s fish curry—and man, is it ever good. I‘ve missed this dish. One of my pandemic bright spots is how the infrequent grocery runs gave me an excuse to buy a giant bag of frozen basa.
My #audiocooking got me through a decent stretch of LAIR OF DREAMS; another thing I‘ve missed. Y‘all know “queer asshole does dream magic while ghosts lurk around” is my uber-specific subgenre of choice.
This would have been 4 stars, if not for a love triangle. Y‘all know how I feel about love triangles. That said, I loved getting to know sweet, kind Henry. Evie‘s antics were charming & hilarious, which I enjoyed. The plot meandered around between characters a lot, & it wasn‘t as chilling or exciting as the first. Still, I really want to see where the next one takes us! ...As long as it doesn‘t take us through any more love triangles 🙄. ★★★☆☆.
#currentlyreading | this book has been sitting on my shelf for half a decade. At last, it is time! #socialdistancereading
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love this! It‘s been a while since I read the Diviners, but I found that I could still keep up with the action—thankfully!
1. Tagged!
2. Lord of the Rings. Never won‘t love it.
3. 2nd and Charles!
4. Oh gosh. I‘ve re-read so many books! I think the Percy Jackson books are up there, and some childhood favorites like Little Women
5. Lord of the Rings!
6. Oh, I have so many this month. My bookspin books, plus like four more. I‘ll be busy!
7. Narnia. For sure!
8. Slade House by David Mitchell! I‘m not huge on horror, so that was a real surprise.
(Continued in comments!)
The characters in this series, set in NYC during Prohibition, are very lovable and Bray has a real gift with dialogue. I‘m switching back and forth between print and audio. The narration is superb. On to the third in the series.
Nice utilization of Dr. Jung‘s “collective consciousness” in the aspect of dreaming. But I‘m going to take a break in this series and switch things up a little 🤪📖
And starting the second book now 📖😋
This was such an amazing audiobook that I can‘t wait to listen to the last two books of The Diviner‘s series soon. I absolutely love and enjoy this book series so much.
I loved this book. I think I liked it more than book 1. I really enjoyed all of the references to #AmericanHistory that I recently learned about from the #podcast Stuff You Missed in History Class. The audiobook is also really well done. #racism #ghost #psychic #1920s #chineseamericanhistory #lgbtcharacter #queerbook #queerfantasy #trauma
”Our ghosts are with us everywhere ‘cause we live in a haunted house” Libba Bray briefly speaking on the Diviners and our country is everything.
#chillingphotochallenge #haunted the house in this cover seems very haunted to me #teamstoker #scarathlon
If you haven‘t read this series yet I definitely recommend listening to it on audible. January LaVoy is the best narrator I‘ve ever listened to in my entire life! Also, the story itself is just so good. It‘s so creepy and so funny all at the same time. Also my ship keeps sinking and then floats a little and sinks again. Makin me sad. But I still love it!
With each book I read in this series...I get angrier and angrier about the cover changes.
I love this cast. Period. They're diverse, all having steadily growing individual stories, and a great overarching story together. I am very VERY curious to see where all the romances from this book go cause like...BOY
Also, the very last scene made me shriek scream. I need to read book 3 ASAP.
Im so anxious to get to this so I'm pretending it was in my original TBR and not a back up
I feel like this book is so slow. Did anyone else read it? If so what did you think? I am on page 292 of 561 (or so). The first book was fast paced but this book just seems to spend too much time building up to something.
I‘m determined to finish this one today.
went along. Sometimes its virtues made it the envy of the world. Sometimes it betrayed the very heart of its ideals. Sometimes the people dispensed with what was difficult or inconvenient to acknowledge. So the good people maintained the illusion of democracy and wrote another hymn to America. They sang loud enough to drown out dissent. They sang loud enough to overpower their own doubts.
I'm am so swept away in this book series. I love the setting and the supernatural aspects. It's fun and intriguing.
Guys, it's too cold out there! This morning was awful! Couldn't I just go home and be with my book and my fluffy cat?
