My friend and I decided to do a book exchange where we both select and wrap twelve books for the other. Then each month we get to open and read our predetermined blind date book. 😁

This was the one she gave me for January. I've read Picoult before, but it's been many years. Seems this particular title has had some very mixed reviews, so here's hoping I end up falling in with those on the positive side. 😊🤞

Interesting graphic novel. This is a story about a girl trying to fit in to her prep school where she doesn‘t think she does belong. I was impressed with how in depth it went through that theme. Especially with a ghost who wants to stay with Anya to be sure she gets the life the ghost never did. End resolution felt like it was over too fast for something of this magnitude. Then again, maybe that works better for those struggling with fitting in.

This was surprisingly fun and quirky, while also being a little bit sad. To be honest, I‘m not sure cozy mystery is the right genre for this, since it honestly felt more like literary fiction that just happens to involve a murder.

I‘m not sure about this one. I really wanted to like it. The best way to explain this is that the story was so slow and barely anything happened and then the author threw everything into the ending. Everything all at once. It was so chaotic.
Also this is my first finished book of the new year and we‘re not off to a good start.

Lora is still playing pretend and her friends are out growing that game. She meets Alexa, an imaginary friend/ghost. The story's theme is about being yourself, holding on to the magic of childhood. Graphics good, story concept good. Overall, a good read.

I loved this book! Dysfunctional family drama, queer and Jewish identities, mediumship: it‘s all here. The characters and events reminded me so much of the HBO series 6 Feet Under, but even better. I would so love to see this adapted on the big screen! This is a story about love but it‘s also heavily about grief—the many ways it shows up and how we navigate it. Our main character is a trans man who finds himself deep in family drama, but he⬇️
