If the writing wasn‘t so good, this would be a Pan. Descriptions and sentiments are wonderful, but the story is a mess of extraneous details irrelevant to the plot, too many meaningless background characters, and a useless protagonist. Confusing without being mysterious, ending did not feel earned.

I found this very cool offering in a local free puzzle library (!!!) and did most of it while I listened to FUNERAL SONGS FOR DYING GIRLS. Alas, it‘s the first Cherie Dimaline novel I‘ve disliked. It offers up some intriguing threads, but the story as a whole fails to satisfying and the prose is so performatively purple that it shut me out of the emotions instead of placing me inside them. Sigh. #audiopuzzling

Middle school scary. Just a monster-hunting ‘cemetery boy‘ that overseas his graveyard with his clandestine bestie flesh-eating mermaid friend.

Goal one: Collect the credits he receives by cashing in on the captured monsters in hopes of resurrecting his long dead mother.

I loved it! Great read to dull Election Day catastrophe blues. 😨

More gross than spooky for me. It makes some interesting statements about addiction, but it kind of goes off the rails in a way that doesn't quite work for me. I'm not sure what's inspiring so much of the fungus horror these days. Maybe candida overgrowth controlling our actions?

This was a good book to check out from the library. Will I re-read it? No. Am I invested enough for a second book? Yeah, if I need something to read. It landed for me between “Meh” and “A Pick”, so if that helps your decision process. Word of warning: do not start a drinking game of taking a shot every time you read, “We need a real way to communicate better”, you will be drunk very early on because it is said a lot 😆😵‍💫🥴

I thought I would like this more. The premise is good, enjoyed the beginning but I don‘t know, I didn‘t like the execution and didn‘t connect with the characters. But I still liked the story🤷🏽‍♀️ 2.5/3⭐️

Book 35 of 2024: This was pick 3 for #CBBC. I was not a fan of this book. Although, I enjoyed the plot and suspense leading up to the climax of “whodunit“ i was not a fan of the romance with a ghost nor the excess detail (in my opinion) of surroundings. Not a series I will continue by choice. 🌟🌟 🌟/5

Third #wickedwords for the month. This was a good spooky-season fantasy graphic novel.
