I loved this podcast episode with Angie Thomas, particularly for her thoughts on issue vs. nonissue books as well as who she writes for. I listened to it before finishing the book (so good!) and thought it really enriched my reading experience!

Christine Thanks for sharing - I just finished the book (yes, so good!!) and look forward to checking this out! :) 6y

I absolutely FLEW through this series. Obviously I was into the alternate history/space race/awesome smart ladies, but I think one of my favorite parts was the marriage at the center of it. A true partnership, Friday Night Lights style, that completely hooked me. 💛

Just finished this today (enjoyed parts but it didn‘t live up to The Hating Game) and realized the cover includes one of my pet peeves: when the character on the cover looks nothing like how they‘re described. She‘s supposed to be a bartender goth girl which is NOTHING like that cover. 😒 #romantsy

I read this after watching the Netflix show which I think set my expectations for being being super creeped out at an all time high that weren‘t met by the book. Glad I read it but definitely preferred the show. In any case, it‘s the book that got me to my 1,000th book read on Goodreads, which I‘m pretty proud of!

Well, this is nothing like the movie but I'm enjoying it so far! Definitely imitates the style of oral histories so it doesn't have as strong a narrative drive as the movie but that hasn't bothered me. Honestly, if it had a different name I would have never assumed it was the source material. #audiobook

How busy/stressed I am at work is directly correlated to the proportion of romance novels to any other genre. You'll notice I'm at 100% today. 😬 No shame, I do what I gotta do to stay sane! Finished The Royal Treatment last night. Which one should I read next??#romantsy

CoffeeK8 I do the same! Romance novels during the school year and heavier reading in July and August. Great list! 7y

Starting my very first Agatha Christie! 🚂 I figured an upcoming movie adaptation was as good a place to start as any. 🤓

Jess7 If you like her writing I would recommend this one too. There is a BBC TV movie series for this one (both a 1945 version and a 2013 or 2015 version). I recommend the newer one when you finish reading it. 7y

All of these #bookishwouldyourather posts give me the perfect opportunity to remind everyone that THIS is the best Rochester (BBC 2006 miniseries). 😍 Toby Stephens, son of Dame Maggie Smith, embodies the best of the character. Finished this on audio last night. I read Redefining Realness a few years ago and loved it so I knew I would want to read her second memoir. Given that I just turned 30 this year myself, its interesting to compare how our 20s shaped us. Our stories are not very similar on the surface, but finding your voice and knowing who you are things anyone can relate to, no matter the circumstances. Particularly recommend the audio by the author. 🙌🌈💜

My second foray into #magicalrealism was much more successful than my first (One Hundred Years of Solitude). I found this to be far more accessible, even if I didn't have the background on Chilean history to fully understand the points of reference. Multigenerational family epics will always pull me in, as well as solid writing. Recommend 👍 #booksintranslation

Really grateful this memoir exists and that Diane shared the story of her family, the good and bad parts. I think this falls under the same category as I Am Malala for me: an important story that I wholeheartedly recommend, with the caveat that because both used a co-author imitating their voices, it's not the best written book you'll ever read. Absolutely still recommend, just setting expectations appropriately. 💜

Finished this at the pool over the weekend! Somehow I had never heard of this book, which is the first in a trilogy, or the author, who was only the third woman ever to win the Nobel. Set in 14th century Norway, it follows the life of Kristin as she grows from a young child into young adulthood. It was notable for its depictions of female sexuality and moral ambiguity when it was published in 1920. #booksintranslation

Y'all, I need to rant really quick. I've heard great things about the Farseer Trilogy so I decided to buy the series. I ordered them used on Amazon, because I am not made of money. This was great but I feel weird saying I loved it given the dark subject matter (I felt similarly about Columbine, tagged in the comments). The Chernobyl disaster occurred in 1986, the year I was born, so I really knew very little about what occurred. Alexievich focuses on the everyday people in the area, coping as best they can, some of whom want to remember and some for whom the memories are too painful. Utterly compelling. #translatedbooks
