I read the first 30% of SALT MAGIC, SKIN MAGIC last night, and I‘m hooked. Lee Welch writes the kind of prose that practically reads itself, with great characters and an intriguing version of 19th century England to boot. Penny‘s promised she‘ll help me devour the rest of it today. #MFMarch
I read this for my book club.
A church is set on fire & someone is murdered, & the self-proclaimed “punk rock nun” becomes suspect propelling her to solve the crime.
This was a good mystery & I like Sister Holiday & her story, but I wasn‘t into the (understandable) religious parts sprinkled throughout. Bonus points for a lesbian main character.

I‘m probably being generous but I am a sucker for a collection of interconnected short stories that feel very literary fiction. While I didn‘t love the voice actor for this novel (which is being extra picky), the story itself was captivating. The alternating POV, the stories not being in chronological order, the look at friendship, love, sexuality, family, culture and heartbreak hit all the right buttons for me. One of my top reads so far!
You need to be prepped going into this, it is a Gay Horror Book, set in Hollywood. Our MC is a screenwriter who is mostly in the closet, but he has a boyfriend. Zeke, my boyfriend. The one thing I couldn't get past was how often his boyfriend was pointed out. The writing is not great, but the story is original and propulsive, I really grew to like and root for our MC. I thought the horror elements were brought in well, if a tiny predictable

I dug into SAFFRON ALLEY before bed last night, which was a mistake because I was too tired to read more than 20% and I wanted to devour the whole thing. A.J. Demas is so good at illuminating relationships and digging into the uncertainty that comes when you‘ve had a really intense, interrupted connection with someone and you need to figure out how to build on that within the framework of your everyday life. #MFMarch
Representation is so important. As is my continued education on diverse topics. This is a great intro graphic novel to genders and one person‘s journey and self-discovery.
I decided to do a Kobo Plus trial because a) they offered me bonus points, b) it‘ll give me a steady supply of digital, due-dateless reading material while I‘m in France, and c) I can finally knock a bunch of stuff off my wishlist. I began with A THIEF IN THE NIGHT, KJ Charles‘s thief/victim romance set in the same world as THE GENTLE ART OF FORTUNE HUNTING. It was great. Penny appreciated the snuggles she got as my reading buddy, too. #MFMarch
