I completely understand why this book was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. This debut novel is a slow burn, but around 2/3 of the way through it, a twist completely turns the reader's understanding of the characters upside down. This book is intimate and sensual and gives a new sweeping perspective on the effects of WWII after the fighting ended. This debut novel deserves all of the accolades.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Excellent, but I kept falling asleep while reading the beginning (still sick). I can‘t tell if I was bored or the start was slow or if I was just still too sick to read. Worth persevering for the ending.

Next up, another fantasy — not sure how I ended up with so many Indigenous authored fantasies on my TBR, but it‘s quite delightful…
“A flag to unite, a flag to inspire.”
“The inspiring story behind a flag that symbolizes love, hope, and pride.“
This inspiring picture book tells the story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official, and the creation of the rainbow flag as a symbol of hope and equality. It‘s a celebration of courage, unity, and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

I know we usually rely on @TheBookHippie for Yiddish lessons but this word came up in my book twice already and I had to look it up! I like the positive connotation behind it

It is a rainy day here so I‘m enjoying the weather in my sunroom, with a good book!
King of Immortal Tithe - 🏳️🌈 retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth. Thoroughly enjoying it!
This is the November pick for my local LGBTQ+ book club. My first Highsmith, a lot of my expectations were subverted. I am really looking forward to discussing it.
I don‘t really have any other words in my brain right now… maybe I‘ll come back and edit this review when I‘m feeling loquacious, but for now this sparse vagueness is all I‘ve got. Despite that, I didn‘t want to wait too long to review this. I know I‘ll forget otherwise.
