Opening up the world of the Hunger Games, this story give us the early years of President Snow. Although at points it almost made me feel for the character, the early seeds of his personality are all there, along with some interesting side players

Making a start on this. Has anyone read it and if so what did you think?

KaylasReadingNook It‘s such an amazing book and truly gives you depth into the early games and Snow‘s start. It brings to light some of the events in the main trilogy and really makes you think more about the lore. Honestly it‘s worth the read even if you despised President Snow. 1y
UglyOldBat I have to agree! I wasn't sure what to expect but I was hooked 1y

I devoured this book. Told from the perspective of a young Victorian woman rebelling against the conformity of her time, while trying to solve a murder and indulge in the science she loves. A wicked little book, full of ghosts, mysteries and of course, lies.

Morgan and Abel are leaving the Castle, their home, to follow the other refugees and get the hell out of Dodge.

As you travel through the pages you realise something is unusual about their relationship, but before we get there we meet a group of soldiers who are determined they are taking them back to the Castle, whether they like it or not

ReadingOver50 Great book 4y
UglyOldBat @AvidReader25 @ReadingOver50 I LOVED it! Have you read any of the other books in the series? 4y
See All 6 Comments
AvidReader25 @UglyOldBat Yes! I‘ve read all of them. There‘s one series that follows Ender and one that follows the rest of his crew. The Ender one has a very different tone. The parallel book, Ender‘s Shadow, about Bean is my favorite. Start there! The series the follows the crew is very political, but fascinating. I don‘t love any as much as the original book, but I loved seeing more from the characters. 4y
UglyOldBat @AvidReader25 Ooh I liked Bean! Will check it out. I have the Worthing Chronicle too, not heard much about it though 4y
AvidReader25 @UglyOldBat I haven‘t heard of that one. If it‘s good, let me know! 4y

Taking the name from a horror trope this novel looks at the aftermath of three violent massacres and the individuals who survived. It's a psychological thriller and I agree with @Reggie that it was not what I expected but once I excepted it for what it was I enjoyed it

Anyone know why it was called this at first? Doesn't seem to have anything to do with the story, an odd choice of name

julesG It's the UK edition. It was called Cross Stitch at first. 6y
Coleen I think I remember reading an explanation, but can‘t remember what it was exactly. I‘m thinking it had to do with the time travel...stitch in time or something like that. 6y

Savage | Richard Laymon

Pickpick

Laymon is a classic horror writer and this book's title lives up to it's story. Ostensibly about a boy in 1880s Whitechapel who witnesses one of the Ripper's brutal murders and vows to track him down, it follows his journey to finding himself (somewhat psychopathic himself) in the violent setting of the wild west

#horror #gore #gorehound #wildwest #ripper

👇 more below

UglyOldBat It's not for the faint hearted, unless you like your horror with lashes of gore I'd recommend steering clear. If however you're like me and thinking that's my total wheelhouse, get your savage little mitts on it asap 6y
Reggie I‘ve only read 2 of his. Island and The Traveling Vampire Show, and while I liked them, Laymon always has his characters take a sudden left right before the end. It gets real weird. 6y
UglyOldBat @Reggie I know what you mean, Travelling Vampire Show got very weird. This one has more of a satisfying conclusion I'd say 6y

UglyOldBat @Reggie I'm intrigued - how so? 6y
UglyOldBat @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm enjoying it so far 💀 6y
Reggie By the title alone I thought it was gonna be a group of final girls who went to the woods in a cabin and start getting picked off one by one. That is not this book. Just my own expectations did me in. Lol, it wasn‘t bad just not what I thought it was gonna be. 6y
UglyOldBat @Reggie I see why you would think that, I'm not sure it's quite what I thought it would be either 6y
