Miss Dorothy and Her Bookmobile
Miss Dorothy and Her Bookmobile | Gloria Houston
12 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
When Dorothy was a young girl, she loved books, and she loved people, so she decided that she would become a librarian. Dorothy's dearest wish is to be a librarian in a fine brick library just like the one she visited when she was small. But her new home in North Carolina has valleys and streams but no libraries, so Miss Dorothy and her neighbors decide to start a bookmobile. Instead of people coming to a fine brick library, Miss Dorothy can now bring the books to themat school, on the farm, even once in the middle of a river! Miss Dorothy and Her Bookmobile is an inspiring story about the love of books, the power of perseverance, and how a librarian can change people's lives.

#SchoolSpirit Day 13: Dorothy dreamed of being in charge of “a fine brick library” similar to the one they had in her Massachusetts hometown. She pursued this dream and went to Radcliffe College and went off to library school. Soon after #graduation, however, she fell in love and her life took on a different path as she and her husband moved to a farm. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-4jb

A patron just returned this saying it was awesome, so you know I had to read it. And she was right!

Bookworm54 You know you can get points for tbr and impulse reads for the winter games too right? Anything you read this month counts :) 5y

Littens, I need a little help, or rather the humble bookmobile of Sonoma County does. It's a van full of books that drives around the county taking book donations and giving away free used books (and old ARCs).
The van that this beloved program has used for the part 10 years "must be phased out due to new CA air quality regulations."
It's an all-or-nothing fundraiser, soooo... consider giving? ?

My new little town doesn‘t have a library branch but we do have a bookmobile! I went and got myself a new library card 😊

JacqMac I grew up in a town with a bookmobile. I loved it so much! When I was a kid, I thought it was magical that I could request a book and the bus would bring it to me a week later. Lol 5y

Here is your Friday morning dose of trivia. There are few of these still around in the US so if you happen to come across one of these elusive creatures be sure to take a pic and post. Have a fabulous Friday.

Bookmobile went well today! Played Knockout with some kids and gave them a run for their money, and leading a spontaneous boys bookclub where we took turns reading, but read in our best funny accents 😜. My favorite quote from the basketball court :” MAN, the teacher can Shoot! You got out by a teacher!” Haven‘t played basketball in about a year, so it‘s nice to know I am not too out of practice. 💙📚

TommieMarie74 I love this! How amazing!! ❤️ 7y
Gina @TommieMarie74 back in 1933 during the depression Roosevelt felt the way out of poverty was books. So he funded the WPA to hire librarians (mostly women) to ride horse back to remote places so the poor could have books. The women would stay and read to those who were illiterate 7y
Tamra Wouldn‘t this be the BEST job???? 7y

I was reading this book to my 5-year old, and he said, “Wait. It‘s a librarian, but she drives her library? So, she‘s a drivarian?”
