Pickpick

Laymon is a classic horror writer and this book's title lives up to it's story. Ostensibly about a boy in 1880s Whitechapel who witnesses one of the Ripper's brutal murders and vows to track him down, it follows his journey to finding himself (somewhat psychopathic himself) in the violent setting of the wild west

UglyOldBat It's not for the faint hearted, unless you like your horror with lashes of gore I'd recommend steering clear. If however you're like me and thinking that's my total wheelhouse, get your savage little mitts on it asap 6y
Reggie I‘ve only read 2 of his. Island and The Traveling Vampire Show, and while I liked them, Laymon always has his characters take a sudden left right before the end. It gets real weird. 6y
UglyOldBat @Reggie I know what you mean, Travelling Vampire Show got very weird. This one has more of a satisfying conclusion I'd say 6y

Mehso-so

This was not what I thought it was. Supposed to have Jack the Ripper in it and a boy chasing him through America. Little did I know it was more about a boy discovering girls in a road trip with a sprinkle of jack in it. Meh

JoeStalksBeck Completely different than anything I've read. Starts out slow but picks up quick. 8y
quirkyreader Richard Laymon is one of my favourite writers, but this is the first time I have heard of this story. 8y
JoeStalksBeck @quirkyreader this is the first I've read him. I understand there is a 2nd book to this that revisits the main character. I'm looking forward to it☺️ 8y
