Alright, so I didn't love this book. I didn't hate it either. The premise of a countess turned commoner to escape her fate was a fun idea. Especially since she gets whisked away to a developing nation/colony on a new continent. Amidst extravagant balls and finery that the Glittering Court can afford. But characterization and pacing are big problems. I read the whole book and yet I still can't give solid differences or likes between characters.

Good lord has this last bit been sort of a slog. I've only got about 40-ish pages until I'm done. Honestly if something miraculous happens it'll be the only thing to get me to read book 2. Also I've never read Richelle Mead's other works. . . This book was a rollercoaster of pure fun and excitement. Holly Black has such a knack for blending real and surreal elements.
